ive also found that using the null texture on surfaces that the player never sees also helps lower the r_speeds and wpoly level. also reduces the amount of time hlrad takes to compile.
the soundcard for my laptop sucked so i got a USB soundcard to replace it. works way better and includes hardware support so the sounds are better.

who woulda thought...not everyone who downloads the map has to rate it. its just that if they decide to rate the map they should have to leave a comment too.
ive noticed alot of people just rate a map and dont give any compliments. how is the mapper supposed to know whats good and whats bad about their map? i think we should change the rating system so that you can only rate it if you leave a comment.

i think u can do it with an ambient_generic but u have to include the sound file with the map. it would also have to be in .wav format. make sure its triggered by something unless u want it looping the whole time.

some people mistake helocopters for UFOs. if you ever see them flying in formation at night and they have their spotlights on the look like a formation of lights floating in the sky because choppers can hover and fly real slow. so it looks like a group of UFOs. that explains some of the "floating lights" people see around military bases so often.

i had the same problem. turned out to be some corrupt files in steam. valve fixed it through one of those automatic updates. you should have gotten it. but if its not that it could be that your graphics are set too high for your card to handle or some other program may be interfering with the game.
