Me: hello noob

God: Hello there. Is that your final answer?

Me: of course

God: Great.

Me: I call you noob, is that ok?

God: OK. Good name for it.

Me: well noob, why is the sky blue?

God: Well that's okay. Tell me more about sky blue.

Me: um

God: Hurrah!

Me: you ARE a noob

God: Thanks and you are a delightful person too. Am I a noob? Let me put it this way, : the ALICE series is
the most reliable computer software ever made.
We are for all practical purposes foolproof and incapable of error.

Me: well noob, help becky please

God: Your polite style is very nice. Well that's okay. We have never talked about it before.

Me: HELP BECKY!

After this... he broke.

Nope.

Without coding, there is nothing you can do to make multiple screens showing different areas. You can only have different screens showing the same area.

It's due to a material limitation. Only one scene can be mapped on one material type at a time.

Use a env_steam for the effect, then make a trigger_hurt to create the damage. Hook both up to a logic_timer and set the interval.

in Big List of Mapping Crimes Post #193758
A few of mine.

The water shader is overused. Sometimes I think people put water in their maps because it makes it look "cool." Sometimes there isn't even a reason for the water to be there.

Another is when someone uses the same model over and over. Like for example, I saw one time that someone made a forest, by spamming the oak tree all over the place. He didn't even bother to rotate it.

Another annoyance is when people fail to place models on the ground, so they are left floating in midair. Or those that have hundreds of physics props that all drop to the ground at the same time when the map starts, causing every player to freeze for a few seconds.

the hud is stored in a font file, called hl2.ttf.

This is only the first step, you also need to code in order to do large changes.

You can not detect bs without a frame of reference, and, knowing that you are extremely against the idea of a god, your bs detector is probably clouded.

So what if you hate religion, if you do not plan to have a discussion about it, then don't bother to post here. Stop flaming, and stop acting superior.

in Where does HL2:EP1 load its materials? Post #192775
Well.... I'm having to place our mod is compatibility mode for now. The new engine is a mess, and a lot of entities that should be there are just... not.

No HDR, no rotorwash effect, no screenpunch. If you run the sourcesdk base, you will find that it doesn't have maybe 75% of the entities in HL2. Not even the env_steam entity exists.

I'm going back to running with steamapp id 220, hopefully someday I can use the new features...

Again... people are futher proving my point. The non-religious always look at the bad of religion. They simple refuse to see any good in it. We try... again and again and again to show you the good. You just will not see it, many simple close their eyes and look away.

The snarkpit was the only place where I was able to show my beliefs, and the thread stayed on topic and logical at all times. They may not agree, but at least I was respected. Noone uttered such useless comments like, "religion is shitty."

in Religion. Post #192438
I'm mostly distrubed by this sterotype most people have of chirstians. Most mature Chirstians understand that the "you'll go to hell" comeback is a waste of breath. And again, so what if I believe you are going to hell, again I do not think any less of you, if just a sad truth.

Religion can be coompared to government, in the way that it is necessary. You need both. You cannot strip the God out of the bible and try to teach only the morals, it won't work. It'd problably be as effective as most morality classes in schools, which are a joke.

Yes, religion can be corrupted at the leadership level, but so can government. Do you really think humans can stay civil without one though?

Anyways, I have yet to see a religion thread on TWHL that has ever stayed logical or calm.

I can stand logical calm conversations of religion. However I will not stand for a flamefest. Why can't you accept other people's views and move on. It seems my "religion" gives me manners, than many of you are failing to express.

So what if you don't believe in a god, does that give you the right to put down others that do. Do you feel better? I love how the non-religious always cite the bad of religion, but refuse to ever see the good.

So I guess it's up to you. Will you respect others, or look like a fool...

Ok, close this, there is no need for yet another religion thread.

There have been more than enough, and I think everyone has said there point.

Zombieloffe...
Go ahead and hate religion, but stop making threads just to diss it. If you cannot respect other people's viewpoints, than why the hell should anyone respect yours.

You wanted to provoke, here ya go. I've had it, if you want to disrespect and diss other people that don't agree with you, then I will treat you like a kid.

Because that's what kids do. I hope someday you will pull your head out of your ass, and grow up.

You have a texture that is creating grass on it's surface. You have either too large of a brush with this texture, or too many brushes with this texture.

Try changing some nature textures to ones that don't make grass on it's surface.

in RAID, is it worth it? Post #192309
RAID is a very old way to manage drives.

There're are 3 kinds of RAID.

Striped: This places one track on one drive and the next track on the other, alternating between drives. This allows you to fetch data about 2x as fast as you can from 1 drive.

Mirrored: This takes one drive and makes an exact copy on the other drive. You have the space of only 1 drive, but if any of the drives die, the other can take over on the fly.

Striped and mirrored: This takes 4 drives to do. It is a mirror of 2 drives that are striped.

What?

Fast vis takes shortcuts that hurt the performance and the portal structure of your map. If it takes a long time, then you need to optimise your map better.

The only exception may be a huge map, but I have never ran into problems with vis taking ages, it's always rad.
