Pretty much, but there are legit uses for this too. It enables Linux users to play HD-DVD's on their computers and basically opens up the whole of HD DVD from DRM, or at least that is what I have understood from everything I have read.

Of course, HD DVD's will be updated and this key will be obselete soon enough. Until then, white hat hackers have gained a major victory against DRM as a whole.

I know there's already been a thread on this matter that has been locked, but I would like to think this will be the serious business thread on discussing HD DVD's being pwned. No retards.

What the hell is that, you ask? It's a processing key for HD DVD. Basically, the media is encrypted and that is the key for decryption. That's as far as my expertise on that side of the matter goes. All I know is that it works.

That link is the original sauce for this all. I say sauce because this code has been the subject of much drama on digg. At first they removed all posts about the code due to a cease and desist letter from the unnamed owners of the intellectual property. However, very recently the founder of digg, Kevin Rose has come out to reverse digg's stance on this due to massive user demands and in the interests of "freedom of speech" or press.

So yeah... what're your opinions on the matter?

This is like asking why people make derogatory jokes. You've all made one before therefore you all obviously understand why it was funny. Jokes about VTech are no different. I doubt anyone means to seriously disrespect the victims and their families, they just want to get some lulz out of a pretty lulzless situation.

Every attack is being labelled a terrorist attack nowadays. What happened to the good old days of fucked up people and normal murderers? It's mostly media-whoring from governmental organisations to rally public support through the use of buzz words.

I'm afraid I have to agree with Ant here. M$ have hyped up a lot of their products in the last two years and to be honest they've simply put a mediocre amount of effort into lots of products rather than a real effort for a smaller quantity of projects.

Bottom line: they're just a big crap PR machine that fails at even building up enough PR. If Microsoft were successful they'd basically be like Apple, not that Apple is a good company. Just better.

Back on topic, yeah, just install more codecs and shit 'till it works :P

in DRM free downloads on iTunes Post #217973
What I found interesting was hearing Jobs talk about DRM on movies and how he has no plans to lobby it's removal. His main reason was that the music industry already sells music DRM-free on a wide scale so it is only natural to bring that to the internet. The situation with the film industry is very different, all DVD's are infested with CSS and many other types of copy-prevention systems.

If anybody here can honestly say they've never copied a CD, or downloaded music illegally... I'll..... I'll... be surprised! It's just a normal thing nowadays. The RIAA, MPAA and other such groups can't go on trying to prosecute practically every single advanced computer user. Eventually some kind of comprimise'll happen. Mark my words.

I think everyone has some valid points. You've obviously got the skills to make a comic, but now I think you should concentrate on content more and use your skills alongside a fresh original idea.

Niggles aside, nice work. It's pretty obvious you've put a lot of effort into it. Also, don't listen to 56kfags who moan about not linking to images. If you don't like the way he's done things, don't comment on it unless you're going to be constructive.

ZOMGZ WINDOWS XPEE IS UZELESS!111! NUTHIN BUT SHINY SHIT RANT RANT RANT FLAME FLAME FLAME
It was the same last time round, at XP's launch. People need to make up their minds. It seems as if most people are ranting and flaming just for the hell of it, whenever a bug shows up, everyone's willing to jump the gun and blame Microsoft for old software but when they do come out with new software, all of a sudden everyone is fine with the old stuff.

Windows Vista is better than XP, whether you like it or not. It's not a step back in time by any means and as such it's the new standard. No-one is saying upgrade now, but you'd be dumb to select a new computer and opt for older software, namely XP.

And seriously, could some of you please get your facts right before flaming. Flaming is perfectly fine if it's justified but stating that OEM Vista invalidates as soon as you replace any hardware is total and utter bullshit. The only hardware change that invalidates Vista OEM copies is a motherboard change, and that's fair enough considering the much lower price you pay for OEM.

sigh I'm not an MS fanboy :D I just get aggravated when people don't get their facts right and follow the majority opinion to look cool. It's the internets, get over it.

Someday, perhaps, you'll grow up and then we'll all be adults playing games.
Also notice one last thing. My friends here are numerous. They are the silent ones who allow me to... Bother you. :D
You think so much of yourself. Your friends are scarce from what I see around this community. In fact most people think you're an "irritating cunt". You seem to try to point at faults in other people's posts however you're the only person I can see who regularly posts here and yet contributes very litte (read: fuck all).
Life is a series of obstacles. Today, I am yours. Welcome to the real world.
No, you're a loser who can't face arguements in the real world so you come to a small community of younger people to have conversations. Each and every single TWHL-er can walk away from this thread not caring the slightest. For this reason I feel sorry for you, you will continue to try and enforce false superiority over people across the world.
responce.
Here's my "sagely" advice:
  • Read through what you type.
  • Consider what you're about to say instead of impulse typing insults.
  • Contribute something before striking at other's contributions.
  • GTFO.

ASP and PHP both rock and suck, depending on what you're using them for. For a simple and easy to expand forum and help site like this, PHP definitely takes the lead. ASP is more useful for online shops, things that will not necessarily expand in terms of content and general feel whereas from what's been discussed about TWHL3, we'll definitely want future expansion to be fairly easy.

Anyway, there isn't a whole lot of choice. :P Alex has already done a lot of the site and I suspect we will be utilising all if not most of his code, written in PHP.

in Most hated Holiday tradition. Post #205701
Plenty of people go to church. I've been to church gazillions of times. Just because someone goes to a church doesn't mean that they don't think Christianity is a load of bollocks.

I hate Christmas lights too. They're a waste of money and electricity. Some neighborhoods have the whole light thing way too overdone because one person started putting up lights and then other people want to compete. Retardedness at it's simplest.
