Rowleybob said that he has no intentions on returning to the forums anytime soon - Ive set up a webpage that we can host the competitions on, in similar fashion to what rowleybob done: but im afraid the original webpage is out of my grasps: i could copy the layout if I really wanted, but the basic layour will suffice until I can find a free weekend to update it - might take a lot of work changing all the links and that though: but oh well

Query - see this gun, can it be a func_tank - like the snipers found in the original half-life?

and failing that - does it have to be to correct scale, eg, I cant have a pistol the size of Gordon Freeman?

what kinda gun?

I plan on designing an orbital cannon for use in my mod - I could do with some practive beforehand - or do you a small thing, like a turret, rifle or something like that?

Here are the reports for the Competition BTW

Im sure you'll be interested :P

Viper - World Crafter
Wonderfully detailed car ? loved the vents on the bonnet (hood) and at the roots of the doors

++ Tremendous level of brushwork
++ High level of detail
+ Great Texture application/use of custom textures

No interactivity ? doesn?t matter though

Meets all specifications listed in rules section

  • No pedals
-- Car was too short!!! (or possibly too fat ? either way, scaling wasn?t fully correct) ? the car seemed far too square-ish ? cant make my mind up whether or not it was too short, or too fat?

?Superbly superb stuff!? if I may quote - The admirable aspects of your entry are astonishing and deserve more credit than mere words can provide: a well deserved 1st place ? very well done.
A tremendous level of detail has been utilised in this map, I?m surprised the compile didn?t take a year with all those faces ? the various vents, the front bumper, the bonnet-vents, even the multi-faceted windshield and rim had more brushes than you can shake a stick at: P (and indeed quite a few more brushes than the stick as well!!!)
Seating was amazing, especially the headrests ? steering wheel, gear-stick, - no pedals, but that doesn?t matter ? front and read headlights ? bumpers ? boot (trunk) everything was just magnificent
The only real concern was the scaling it was out of scale; it was either too fat, or too short (one or the other ? prolly too fat actually ? length looked all right) ? asides from this, perfect
A very well deserved First Place ? Well done World Crafter

Ford Explorer - Kasberg
++ Tremendous level of brushwork
++ High level of detail
+ Car was well scaled
+ Lovely made glass roof
+ Great Texture application/use of custom textures

No interactivity ? doesn?t matter though

Meets all specifications listed in rules section

  • No pedals
- The rear headlights were rather bland looking

Wonderful job done by Kasberg - another well deserved 2nd place ? very well done.
Great level of detail, loved the torch (albeit 2-dimensional) and the Case in the boot ? steering wheel was great too ? nice radio, Gear-stick, chairs etc etc
Loved the metal guards on the headlights and also the roof rack.
No real major concerns ? the only reason it wasn?t first place was because it lacked the supreme level of brushwork that World Crafter?s Viper had ? very well done
A very well deserved Second Place ? Great Work Kasberg

Camaro ? Tetsu
++ Tremendous level of brushwork
++ High level of detail
+ Car was well scaled
+ Excellent Rims
+ Pedals
+ Wonderfully detailed seats, gear-stick, steering wheel and handbrake
+ Great Texture application/use of custom textures
+ Ambience sounds (even if it was a tank_idle ? euch, shoulda made a custom one ? minor though ? but if I had a sports car sounding like that I would have its engine checked and its carburettor replaced)

No interactivity ? doesn?t matter though

Meets all specifications listed in rules section

- Bland looking Dashboard
- No metal grating over air intake
- Small glitches where vertices don?t sit on grid properly, resulting in odd cracks when they are aligned to the nearest grid point
  • Lines appear at sides of front where lots of vertex manipulation has occurred
	Minor problem though, and easily fixed
Wonderful job done by Tetsu ? 3rd place, and wouldn?t have taken much to put it in 2nd ? few minor, almost unavoidable
Very well done ? but could have been better in some places ? few minor problems caused by vertex manipulation, mainly cracks and lines appearing ? but fairly minor ? could have been, should have been rectified though ? not too difficult if you know what you?re doing, which I?m sure you do considering the complexity of the build.
Very well designed seats, pedals, Steering Wheel, Handbrake and Gear-stick.
Dashboard was a little bland though, not too minor though.
No real major concerns ? wouldn?t have taken much to put in second place in place of the Ford Explorer
Wonderful Job Tetsu ? wouldn?t have taken much to put it on top either, just a tad of bad luck I guess.
PS - sorry its not as detailed as what Rowleybob has produced in prior compos

Okay - Rowlebob has informed me that
The winner of compo 10 and subsequent ones get first dibs on the next
one. (If the winner defers, then the group can decide.)
So, World Crafter, would you care to decide what the next competition will be?

Ps - If rowlebob permits, I shall host competition data on my google-pages, hopefully will get a reply soon

I can assure you he will be missed :(

Ill get the full text reports posted tommorow btw - so, sorry to have kept you waiting

Also, car can be from any era: past, present, or indeed future - so you do have quite a large scope to work withing - do enjoy

Actually, that movie, using the right programs to convert it into an AVI movie with the right formats, I can replace the Sierra or Valve intro movies that you see when starting up my Mod

I tried it out allready, and it certainly looks good

I figured im replace a number of "newspaper reports" with actual in-game footage, but i have the problem of there being a Fraps Watermark in the middle of the picture, but I can live with that, nothing a little editing wont remove :D

Yes, my mod is grounded in reality, and all the "zombies" and "aliens" you see in the original are in fact Genetically (and chromosomally) mutated humans, rodents, andimals, fish etc etc...

Just out of curiosity, when you make a map, do you ever make a sort of sketch or diagram, or outline even of what it is going to contain, or do you just blunder into it and let your imagination guide you through it?

THATS BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!

Thankyou very much, Merkava MBT (Isreal), could make a valuable addition to the Allied Union Forces (Germany, France, Sweden, Most of the Arabic Regions, Vietnam, China, Japan, and a few other US-hating countries - a fictional union created for my mod)

While being utterly bored a while ago, i created the opening movie for my mod - im going to remake it of course, new stuff to add, new soundtrack (written by me, played by the school Jazz band, with me on the piano) and of course new screenshots :D:D:D)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yo0wtiZP6WE - if you wish to see it

Im going to remake it, ive since upgraded to Zoners compile tools, which has extended my texture memory threefold, so now those ICBMS sit in external (above ground) drop-fire launching platforms similar to those utilised in some Russian launch platforms for their "Energia" class heavy launch vehicles.

I also have a few more people to add to the credits, notably Pieter 'Captain P' Witvoet, and the school Jazz band. My dog has also been a source of inspiration, as my looking at him instigated the production of a half-track - picture enclosed below, the nose section is derived from "Ben", my dog.

PS - does anybody know where I can acquire a free program that records a movie of everything onscreen, i tried fraps, but the free version only records 30 second clips :(

Thankies!

Hey Tycell, I allways research machines based on current technologies before mapping them, one of the joys of being an engineer :D

When firing guided munitions, a M270A1 LAUNCHER (British varient of the "Steel Reign" artillary used by US) upon which the "Tempest Class" is based upon. It can fire guided munitions, it can fire and tack up to four missiles simultaneusly, with about a 3 second delay between firing volleys.

With unguided munitions such as IFR Rockets, it can fire them in the follwoing combinations, 12, 6, 3, 2 simultaneously - or it can fire them sequencially with as little as a 0.2 second gap between fires - but you dont usually do this unless you are pounding the fuck out of an enemy position.

PS - the only reason I know this is because i have a friend who used to work in the British Army, and he manned a M270A1 Launcher in Iraq before being wounded in 2004 and sent home.

Also, "www.army-technology.com" is quite useful for getting statistics on machines of war, as are "www.airforce-technology.com" and "www.naval-technology"

What happens if i exceed 1023 sentances?

in Objects triggured by explosions... Post #201927
You know that level in Half Life (1) where you are in the ordnance storage facility, and if you set of an explosive of any kind, let it be grenade, tripmine or ARGrenade, it triggers the multisource that ends the level.

What entities are they using that trigger the "end entities" as i shall dub them - when an explosion goes off. Fair enough, its easy to do with teh tripmines, but how do they make it trigger if handgrenades, ARGrenades or satchells are used?

Thanks Espen180 - Also - that bright pciture of the ICBMs is on fullbright - thus why it appears that way ;)

The level is blan for the primary reason due to there being a demosntration area (where you do not access normally) with a number of Trigger_cameras in it - this is the first level, and it starts off with a little intro movie of you getting dropped off in helicopter

There is going to be a 2.4 minute long intro movie of the osprey flying through numerous vallies and then finally landing on a large mountain - and my R_Speeds are on their limits - if i add much mor i will get a max_leaf face error or whatever it is called.

Below is a view of hte level (a different view)

Glad you enjoy - more coming soon!

PS - i was bored yesterday so i made an infinately long ladder using a trigger_teleport or whatever it is called !

6Ths monkey's suggestion might look wierd if you do it with the osprey...

His is better with the apache, keep things simple if you can, simple is best.

Take the Mosquito - the "Wooden Wonder" - a simple duel engine WWII plane made en masse by the brittish during World War 2 - simple, easy to make, exctremely effective...

you could also have a number of multi-sources tied to the damage think stated by 6th monekey and have the multisource set off if a certain waypoint is reached & the osprey/apache is at say 50% health for isntance and tell it to change the target of the waypooint it is at (or the next waypoint) and then steer it into your crash destination

For the apache, i advise 6th Monkey's suggestion, but for the V-22d Opsrey, use my suggestion, as this way you can make it crash realisitically since the apache responds differently from the Osprey when following path_corners as you know...

This seems rather complex, ill draw a diagram and post it...
