Everything doesn't have a price, but people want everything to have a price. The best stuff is free anyway and most of the music of today sucks. Ever since 2003 music has been on a serious downward spiral. Especially with Raggetone and Rap. No one gives a shit.
Good job of generalising the whole music world there, Rim. Just because you listen to bad music doesn't mean there isn't any good music being produced - just the huge amount of music being produced each day ensures there will always be great music produced in all genres you could think of. Current mainstream music might not be in your tastes, but that's no incitement to say all music produced in the last 5 years is bad - that's just an incredibly narrow-minded viewpoint.

Works for me now. The HR one is good, appropriate screen size. Maybe consider switching to White on Black-grid / No Grid for future videos. We should really start making a load of these. Narrating = a huge plus.

6 MB for 30 seconds is fine, as long as the buffering works.

I'm wondering how they'll determine legit mp3s from pirated mp3s. Making personal copies of your own CDs to your computer is perfectly legal under any law. Would you have to bring your entire CD collection (and receipts saying you bought them) with you every time you boarded a plane? ...
Effective, no doubt.

Game hosting from a web host is just impossible, there's no way they'd let you do that. It's a web host, and very probably not dedicated.

Game hosting is more dependant on hardware (mainly CPU speed, IIRC) than on bandwidth (even though a decent connection is required).
For GoldSource, you can make do with really crappy hardware. I hosted a ~8-player Counter-Strike server with an old P2 running Ubuntu - pretty minor lag with my 1Mbit-upload connection.

Well, not really "high quality", just "higher quality" than the usual Youtube quality. It's still pretty awful.

I'm talking about full-resolution fully readable screencasts like these (terrible examples, they were all I could think of): http://www.rubyonrails.org/screencasts
http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorial.html?id=107
The largest problem with video tuts is that phone line and internet capped people are going to be highly left out, should they want/need to look over them
Fuck them! Seriously, this is the Youtube age, they're negligible.

Me and jaardsi did this 4 years ago (links don't work, sadly). Holy crap, btw, four years...

Anyway, it's not a bad idea. Needs better quality and a web-video instead of a WMV file (eg. Youtube... only not youtube, because the quality is too shitty). Anyway, shouldn't be too hard to find a good flash video host. A narrating voice should add a lot too.

Flash is terrible for building websites. Breaks common functions like history, bookmarking, URLs. Also terrible for SEO - search engines crawl HTML (rating semantic markup high), not Flash.

Basically, what Penguinboy said, except rebuild it using semantic HTML styled by CSS, with behaviour controlled by JavaScript. :)

Sound on a website is nothing terrible, at least not on a more "artistic" portfolio website. Just make sure it doesn't annoy and is easily disabled.

They're not accepting aid because the generals (note, generals - not politicians) leading Burma are tyrant wankers afraid of losing their power. They're terrified the Burmese people will start seeing that the Western world really isn't a bunch of cunt-bags, like the Burmese government has been telling them for 50-odd years.

Hopefully, though, the Burmese people will see through this charade put up by their government. The military junta needs to end.

Well, firstly, there's no one "without intelligence" (intelligence is a stupid term, anyway), and no one who doesn't think. Secondly, saying "I don't waste time reading the news" in the same post as you claim you want to improve the world what with all your astounding intellect comes off sounding incredibly ignorant. Fyi.

Really. Sitting by yourself, thinking about stuff very rarely leads to the acquisition of new information. You might figure some personal issues (or perceptions) out, but that's about it.

The first 3 Resident Evil films have sucked a LOT of cock, I don't expect this one (some CGI monstrosity, might I add) will be better. Granted, Capcom are making it, in contrast to the "real-actors" films, but still... I see little hope for the film.

Also, Anchorman 2?! omfg!

thinking about the world, the future of the world and how the world works, the earth and it's future, how humans and other animals work, and what's wrong or right and how the world would be better
Kind of hard to know how to "make the world better" without knowing which countries are in it or what's going on in them. But then again, I guess you could think it all up without actually looking at anything. You know... with intelligence.

So in Burma, a country in Asia (right?), lots of people are dying?
is this where the virus is? HOLY FUCK MAN! If so just last week it announced 400 was dead... now it has reached 100,000! FUCK, Where all dead men!
how come the numbers jump so radically? first day it was only a couple hundred, a day later 1000, another day later 10000 and by the forth day it was 20000....
Smart people are smaaart.

As for the situation in Burma, yeah, it's pretty bad. It was before the cyclone and it's even worse now.

WC: Would look cooler if the snow was just small, bright dots instead of the gray fuzzy blobs it is now. It'd go better against the incredibly contrasty theme. Perhaps make the snow a little less dense in the actual playing area so it won't bother the player as much, and a lot more dense in the background/sky?

in Who is Gman ? Post #249546
Mr. G is certainly an adversery to the combine, not their assistant. Perhaps an agent of a third group warring the Combine on other worlds, as the Half-Life Saga suggests? That sounds most likely to me. He's got leex hax powers though. I mean, time manuevering capabilities? He stopped time on the Citadel as it blew up, you know. Or maybe he just got Gordon out of there, we really don't know as our perspective was rather limited.

He certainly is a cool character, though. Let's hope Valve don't fuck up the great feeling about him in Episode 3 or subsequent Half-Life iterations.

And he's NOT future Gordon, nor is he Gordon's father. Come on, that's a lame explanation.

More specifically, a trigger_camera. I'm not sure how to setup the camera to be the default "idle view" in Counter-Strike, but google around and you'll probably find a tutorial on how to do it. Alternatively, decompile a CS map and have a look (it's okay if you don't steal :P).

I've found a fairly serious bug, very evident in top-down but also platform maps: there's a problem with what's being rendered. Depending on where you stand, sometimes a brush or entity will become invisible because the engine thinks you can't see it.

Eg, if I'm standing behind a wall, I can see into the next room but the engine can't, hence rendering everything inside the next room invisible.
I'll post screenshots if needed.

A lot of bugfixing is up to the individual map-maker's, not the mod's own design. For instance, the player getting stuck on objects is entirely the fault of the author of the map.

Very good work, ChickenFist.

Foobar2000 > Winamp. Still, they're both better than WMP which is better than iTunes. Vista is incredibly useless except for DX10, which isn't even a vista feature. Windows classic is horribly ugly and people who don't custom skip XP (using uxtheme.dll patch, NOT WINDOWBLINDS) are dumb.

These are not personal opinions. They are universal truths.
