The goal is only to recreate a map with the same theme as a CS map and make it better!

It's not to take a layout and spruce it up, but to completely redesign it.

I intend on doing cs_747 as it was my favorite map but the whole map was just too linear and usually involved the terrorists camping in the plane. I want to expand it (and make it a DE map because I dont like CS maps) to include more of the actual airport and less of the plane (the plane just doesnt work) and we'll see how that goes.

Also, is it allowed/legal/possible to use L4D models in CSS? Because they have all the great airport models.

Nice! I will totally have a stab at it (and actually finish something for it this time). I loved the original CS maps so I might remake one in SCC that they never did, like 747. I loved that map but it never did play too well with bots XD

I'm close to getting mine done, but I may need to hold off submitting for a few days after the deadline. I've just gone on holidays from work so I'll pour lots of time into it.

I could finish it before then, but it would be very unpolished, which I wouldn't like.

What he could do is...

...add multiplayer spawns. Then it has a purpose.

Really, very little art has an actual purpose. Art is not an object to be analised, it is an expression of creativity. In the end, it is about how you feel about your creation, not what others think, only feel. If people like it, good for you, if not then it's just one step in your creative ladder.

In any case, art should not be taken literally. People who take art literally are the ones that believe violence in video games are resposnible for teen violence and aggression.

Well, my SDK suddenly started working (no idea why) and I started it and made significant progress on my two days off. I expect things to slow now that I'm back at work for 5 days, but oh well.

It's for L4D2, and Hammer is a real bitch when I try to use keyboard shortcuts. Often requiring me to mash the buttons until it decides to accept them, so I've had to resort to using menu buttons (So instead of Ctrl+I to flip, I got to now go to Tools-Flip-Vertically. ect. ect. ect)

While everyone is showing off, I might as well, which I think is a first for me:

Ok...

So much complaining about the restrictions, yet quite a few guys wanted this.

Anyway, I really don't see what is so limiting about not using custom sounds. All Source and Goldsource games have a decent array of sounds available, not to mention you can play around with in-game entity settings to adjust pitch and add effects to them, so really. Get creative guys...

I'll always believe what the creator of Audiosurf said:

Having complete freedom would have killed his project, even though he could have had it, he chose not to, he put limits on himself

Also, from Deus Ex:

There is no difference between complete freedom and complete anarchy.

in Sky VS NULL Post #298986
I don't recommend using Sky textured brushes in replacement of NULL or BEVEL brushes. Simply because Sky brushes generate light and therefore RAD has to do lighting calculations on them which will increase your compile time.

Otherwise, yes, they work pretty much exactly the same. Use BEVEL wherever possible, but use NULL if you are having problems with a certain area or small objects or complicated brushes (like arches or other complex geometry).

My local radio station hosts did this kinda thing, where the male host (accused of being too girly by his female co-host because of certain comments he occasionaly made) had to perform challenges to prove his manliness. his challenges were:

1. Swim in a tank full of (harmless) octipi.
2. Chop down a tree with an axe.
3. Endure 3 1-minute boxing rounds with actual boxers.
4. Change a truck tire.
5. Eat a plate of various animal organs (liver, kidney, heart, ect)
6. (I forgot because I didn't listen to the radio that day)

Anyway, I enjoyed this concept, so I'd start the same thing here. You can state your greatest or weirdest acheivement. It can be game based or not, but my contribution is:

Punch the head off a (live) Deathclaw with a powerfist in Fallout: NV (yes I'm still playing this because my computer died while I was playing and I only just got it reinstalled).

And............Go!

Yeah, I've had these nasty little buggers before. The one I had periodically opened a Internet Explorer window to an advertisement for something. I searched for it everywhere without luck, then I went to the task manager and found a suspisous program running called 'aaa' which I would end task. Then five seconds later, it was running again.

I tried to delete the actual program, but it would copy itself, give itself a different name and keep going. So, With Avast, i sent the executable to the virus vault and did an antivirus delete on the bastard. Gone forever!

Yeah, I fixed both those things in the Static Friction editor. I don't remember how I did the crowbar (and I've since lost the code) but to fix the Glock you should just be able to add this after:

if ( m_pPlayer->ammo_9mm <= 0 )
return;

if (m_iClip == 17)
return;

in Any fix for glowing func_door? Post #290015
Assuming this is multiplayer, your best option is to either create a custom sound file where you have combined all the words into a single file with an editor like goldwave or something. The alternative is to have a multimanager to play a sequence of sound files that each play one word of the sentance, and then trigger them as close as you can to form the sentance you want. Takes a little effort but both ways should get you what you want.

You know, I only just got back and couldn't be bummed reading what everyone wrote, but I would kinda be sad if it got changed. It would feel like when they change the name of a popular stadium to some commercial name, like Crazy John's Statium. I understand why though, but I would greatly miss the old domain (not to mention the mysterious free domain we got here, who would pay for the new hosting?)

f I ask why you're trying to design for pre-update CSS, will I regret it?
I still don't understand what everyone means by that? Counter-Strike is in my 2006 Source games? Please explain...
It's GCF, not GFC. Dunno why, but that really annoys me. It stands for Game Cache File.
If you hadn't noticed, my writing is full of typos. I know it was GCF, but when I proof-read my post, I missed it, sorry.

in Fixing broken 2006 Source SDK Post #287293
I've been having increasing difficulty getting the 2006 SDK for Counter-Strike: Source.

First of all, it was missing editor textures, which was an easy fix by extracting them from the GFC.

Second, when I open Hammer, I have buggy viewports, they each have a single white line running through them. Some windows have the line do a 90 degree turn in the middle others have two lines crossing. I fixed this by downloading pre-update binaries and replace them after loading the SDK but before openign Hammer. This seemed to solve that problem.

Now, instead of lines. I just have black viewports, the 3D camera seems to respond to movement (when I press z) But even if I try to place a block, I get nothing. Can anyone help?
