Jamiroquai.

Been my favourite band since I was about 8. Why? I don't know. Guess it's just my taste that got me there.

in Help with monster_grunt_repel Post #279768
I need some help with placing a couple of monster_grunt_repels in my map.

I give them a name, and when I trigger them they spawn right there and perform a "rappel down" animation - but they stay in the exact same spot without moving down. There are no obstructions in their way (or I suppose they'd stop going down and stand)

Only if I noclip up to where they are, they start shooting at me when they see me. Only then, if I hide they'll start going down until they reach the floor.

Am I missing something? Am I doing something wrong?

[edit]bump nobody? :(

I still think it's not too hard, with PS at least. Send me a PM if you'd like me to try.

I don't know in Gimp, but in Photoshop you could use guide lines you can snap to, to maintain precision.

The texture alignment was just an idea, it's not necessarily bad alignment. You could also shift the texture 16 units to the left or right (if the map allows it) and it'd be symmetrical too.

The blocky part is only my point of view. I can't say much, though, my maps are a bit blocky sometimes too.

It's a bit blocky maybe. Personally, I'd try narrowing or widening the hallway in the second screenshot by 32, so the ceiling texture joins the walls symetrically.

@kdunivan: you're looking at the wrong picture. The actual rails are all square or rectangular in profile.

I too would try with brush rails, for the above reason. It shouldn't be too hard.

in Putting a circle in a skybox Post #279767
No. You start with your first drawing: Pick up all the affected parts and arrange them on a single canvas - preferably each one in its own layer.

Then, you select each one with the rectangular marquee tool, then right click > Free transform. Hold control and move each vertex the way you would you do in Hammer, and repeat for all four sides. You should end up with your second diagram.

Add the circle, and perform the above step backwards to morph the views back to their square shape.

I'll make you some screenshots if this is unclear.

You'd need to do exactly that (pictured in 1st post). Open all (affected) images in photoshop, and arrange them that way in a single canvas. Do what you have to, then export them back to the original files.

It's looking great. I'd make the stairs steeper (shorter), but I suppose you were constrained by the shape of the model rails.

Then you'd need to dump all your software and buy new "new windows generation" apps.

Plus you'd need a virtual box to run HL and Hammer...

I once saw a documentary in which it was explained that Bill Gates bought the then-named QDOS from some guy for $400, on the very same day he had a meeting with the IBM board to sell it to them. I guess he dropped the Q off it afterwards.

You could also add those to config.cfg, that's what I've done sometimes.

The only extra keys I have configured are I for "impulse 101" and z for noclip (just to maintain continuity with Hammer).

I don't have Steam, but I figure you will probably need some secret registry entries and whatnot. If you find out where those secret keys are, just transfer them too.

Have a try, what can you lose?

In that case you'd need something like this:

1. The door (doesn't matter if it's triggered or not)
--> Have its master set to a multisource entity.

2. The locking button.
--> Have it target the above multisource.

The above setup will deactivate the door whether it's open or closed. If you need it to close before locking, the door would need to trigger a trigger_changetarget that makes the locking button target a sequence that first closes the door and then locks it.

You'd have to play with the door's "trigger" and "fire on close" properties to fire two different changetargets for the button (one for closing and locking, and one for locking only).

My grandparents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary by taking a cruise ship to Brazil. They left this afternoon.

The terminal was so far away from the ship that I couldn't see it. There was a small windows on the first floor next to some offices, but this is pretty much all I could see:

I like this one. Unfortunately I couldn't take their picture waving from aboard like in Titanic, it seems security and bureaucracy have been increased sometime in the past 100 years :P

So we just left.

Does the action have to be repeated? What happens if you press button 1 with the door already open? Can you open it again with button 1 after it has closed?

Maybe it can be done with some changetargets.

You evil bastard. That looks great.

I have bad news about mine: It's almost finished, but it requires an entrance hallway and an exit hallway, as it was intended to be connected to other's entries. I have a way in and a way out. You can't just make the player "be there". I believe it would harm the overall effect. Is there anything we can do about that?

@Jeff: I read the mystery thread in the Steam forums earlier and I agree with the Steam forumers in that the thing far right in the picture is an isometric perspective room with a pipe coming out spewing out stuff, rotated 90 degrees clockwise. That doesn't look like a medkit to me AT ALL.

I've seen so many references to Windows 3.11 yet noone appears to have noticed: There was Windows 3.11 for workgroups, so this may be implying Portal 2 will have teamplay multiplayer. Is it such a stretch?

Yes, also KGB. But this appears to be much more than that: It extends beyond the natural environment of the game - your computer - and makes you think (literally) outside the box. Of course, I haven't seen the clues that lead someone to dial to that telnet/whatever line, but this could go much further.

Only Notpron has got me stuck for weeks without a clue of what to do next. And this is doing the same (to others, not me), and it's only a diversion instead of part of the actual game. It's more like an easter egg that leads you to uncover some conspiracy.

No. Just make your map as nice as possible. I only need the BSP and your custom resources. You don't need an exit or entrance or any evidence of such.
But I need mine to have an entry door and an exit door. I can't have them?

In device properties, have you set "headphones" or "earphones" or something like that? Maybe if you leave "speakers" it'll go louder.
