More importantly, are you using straight HL or Steam? If it's regular HL you must have really messed things up. Uninstall, delete the Sierra folder, reinstall. If you're using Steam I can't help, never touched it. Search the forums and you will see many problems re: Steam

Single player is the base for everything. Make a hollow cube with an info_player_start and you've got single player. Very boring and dark, but a single player map. ;)

Then i encountered about the fiftieth glitch for that day.
You've got issues! Mapping for a mod or straight HL? What version were you using? Steam or straight HL? Which compile tools? If WC gives you fits that often I have to wonder if a different program will work any better. If you're brave enough to learn a new program that's great, but wouldn't you rather pick one that can make HL maps?

As Black Cat mentioned, you will need to run the server on a different port than you join from... but I can't think of any reason to start a dedicated server if you're going to play on the same computer. If you really feel the need, this thread has some good links.

I'll revive it again instead of starting a new rant thread. Is it possible to change the rating system? I'm not worried about bad votes, but lately there's been a flood of "Tihs is my 1st map and it s awesome!!1" with 5 stars and more votes than downloads. Forgot about stars... I appreciate comments more than votes anyway. The new rating system could list total comments... if it's really good or really awful I'd want to peek! I also think an admin should edit those posts already in the map vault... perhaps setting votes to 0 and disabling votes. You could even add something to their description like "I didn't read the tutorials" or... Well, you get the picture.

By the way, if you ever need a moderator with draconian views to abuse their authority, I'm your man! :badass:

Even those chickens have basic survival instincts! I managed a fix using a multimanager and a trigger_push... it seems doors / walls / whatever get stuck if the sci is standing on it. A tiny properly timed push, and bye-bye sci guy!

I may be runnung a different version of HLDS, but mine has tabs across the top. What you described is the console tab which lets you issue console commands, and that's all it will say until someone joins or you type a command. Did you modify the shortcut with config options? That could make it jump past the options menu.

Welcome to TWHL! Hmmm... hard to say from the description. In addition to Anthony's suggestion make sure the door's name and the button's target match exactly... it's good policy not to use any capital letters. If you post the RMF in the Problem Maps section of the vault I'll take a peek at it in the morning. Well, later in the morning after the sun comes up. :cool:

This might make me unpopular, but I think you should have to take 2 minutes and sign up before posting to the forum. We could have a page explaining the handy little "find" button, and a warning that they will be taunted if they ask a stupid questions that have already been covered in the forum, the example maps, and the tutorials.

lol Con 88, MoP's site might not have much but at least it loads correctly! Been waiting a few minutes and the left frame is still blank, as well as the pics at the top of the screen. Oh, finally got the message "This document contains no data". I guess that's why I can't see anything on the left.

Making a web site is a lot like making a map...

Nope, I was thinking simpler. Icebergs don't normally bounce unless my medication wears off so I just clipped them and flipped to func_wall.

But that's a neat idea... I would probably make the wood a func_door_rotating with a trigger near one end. I would also add a func_friction so the player slides off, but I'm evil like that! :badass:

Change you goal for mapping... instead of trying to make a map, try to break Worldcraft or VHE or whatever you use. Instead of doing things that have been proven true try to show what can't be done or what shouldn't.

Can't be done:
adding custom models to Richochet using env_sprite or cycler_sprite
Can be done:
make a env_beam between 2 monsters in regular HL.
I used 2 alien slaves and the beam connected to their feet.
