Playing again Borderlands.

Finished Playthru 2 with Mordecai and Lilith, about to finish PT2 with Roland, and just started with Brick.

Every time I play, I'm amazed at the art. Quite well done. It's also a very fun game, combining elements from First Person Shooters and Role Playing Games. I must say the final boss is real crappy though (even in Playthrough 2 a.k.a. Hard Mode).

Sorry, don't have any interesting screenies to share.

@DiscoStu the package on the package manager/software center/whatever is pretty outdated (0.3.1 versus 0.4.4). You should either use the PPA or compile it yourself :) There are also packages for Windows on the forums at http://minetest.net/forum/

@Blitzkrieg The screen is also from the early days of the game. You should play the newer versions and see for yourself :)

@Scotch yes, It's written in C++, and uses Irrlicht as rendering engine. It is designed to be run on lower-end computers, so the vanilla game is pretty limited. You can easily create mods for it if you know how to program in Lua, and there are already tons of mods that add tons of different stuff, from simple decorative blocks, to mobs (monsters), to NPCs, to an in-game IRC client.

@Blitzkrieg There are only a few things it has in common with MC. I said it was inspired by Infiniminer, not Minecraft. I said it was like "Minecraft" because it's probably the most popular voxel-based game today, and you may know it better than the short-lived Infiniminer.

Hiya guys.
Have you tried Minetest-C55?

It's an Infiniminer-inspired voxel game, with the potential to be way more advanced than Minecraft.

I've been playing it for three months, and the game is purely awesome.

in Which cheap GPU for 3D modelling/mapping Post #311037
I got an Intel Dual Core @3.1GHz (x2) with an ASRock board which has an Intel Series 4 graphics board with 128MB of VRAM, a 500GB HDD, and 4GB of RAM (don't remember the vendor of these, I think the RAM is Kingston), optionally with Windows 7 installed for about 400 USD (actually about 8000 uruguayan pesos). Blender and in general any OpenGL/D3D game/app runs just fine. You may be able to get either better packages for the same price, or the same package for a lower price.
But don't mind me, I'm just a poor h4><0r who can't afford one of those 64-core PC @4THz with 4TB of RAM and 400YB of disk and mega-accelerated NVirtual GSTXST98000 graphics card needed to run GTA IV.
Haha I'm drunk

What I mean is that by using GPL'ed software in your own soft makes it also GPL. IMHO that is not freedom.

I mean, if you don't want to disclose your sources, fine with me, but don't force your users to do so. At least DJ Delorie (which you should know if you are a programmer) shares this view [citation needed].

Don't take me wrong! All the software I created is Open Source, but I released it in a license that basically says "Do whatever you want to do; you are not required to make your app open source, but give credit where credit is due."

EDIT:

rufee, why don't you install the latest Ubuntu? If you install Wine in it, you can run your favorite Windows Games in Linux! I have Max Payne, GTA IV, HL (of course) and a bunch of free games. There are also cool alternatives, and if i'm not mistaken, there's a port of the Quake engine that can actually run HL and mods natively, though I cannot confirm it does the job perfectly.

EDIT 2:
There is a Steam-like platform on Linux, it's called Desura.

If I may add mine guys, it's basically the word "Cabeza" ("head" in spanish). That's my nick IRL. If you remove the 'b' and change the 'C' for a 'K', you got "Kaeza".

It also has some relation to gaming. Whenever I played old console RPGs (Breath of Fire II for the SNES) which didn't allow more than a few chars for your name (4 actually), I had to come up with some name, since "Cabeza" did not fit, and neither did "Diego" (my real name). So I thought maybe "Kae", which also had some resemblance to "Kaede" (one of the characters in The Last Blade fighting series).

I use either "Kaeza", "kaeza", or "lkaezadl3" (read as "El Cabeza Del Tres", "The Head of the Three", the 3 for "3 Ombúes" my current neighborhood).

In case some of you are wondering, I'm from Uruguay.

EDIT:
PS: @Blitzkrieg LOL I love the look of Red/Gold/Whatever.

@rufee Sorry, forgot to mention :P Ditched Windowze way too long ago ;)

@potatis_invalid The games I really, REALLY like, I have legitimately bought them. For the rest, I considered them a DEMO; just played for and hour or two after downloading. For HL, it's just that I had this friend of mine who had bought HL, and copied it from his HD to a CD for me. Also, whenever there's a good free alternative to a game (not necessarily Open Source), I ditch the commercial one. I like to support free software (though I think GPL is a cancer in the a$$).

I got the same crashes as before.

As I said on other thread, I run HL on Wine under Linux. I had no OpenGL support on my Linux distro, so I switched for one better supported, and voilá! Not only it doesn't crash anymore, now I have better graphics!!1!one!!

Thanks for the reply anyways platoon.

I didn't say anything about your facepalm Scotch, but sorry if I did. I was saying about other users who stand by the motto "Do as I say and not as I do". You get the picture.

Anyway, we are wandering off-topic and I may have found the root of my problem: I installed a fresh copy of HL and compared it with the old one. As Urby suggested, there was indeed a model I didn't remember being there so I consider this topic solved.

Thanks.

in Issue with entity properties on VHE Post #309950
The issue is that whenever I edit some entity's properties, and then select another entity, sometimes the vaules I set in the previous entity are carried on to the next selected.

Let me illustrate this with an example:
  • Make two 'light' point entities.
  • Select one and hit Alt+Enter to edit properties.
  • Set the "Name" property to "leftlight".
  • Select the other light.
  • Set the "Name" property to "rightlight".
  • Then sometimes when I go back to selecting 'leftlight', VHE changes it's name to "rightlight". Sometimes it resets the properties completely, leaving me with a blank name, default color, etc.
Does this happen to you?

Is there any way to make Lightning (as in a storm, not Lighting) with the flash and all in GoldSrc/CS? I mean, like what you get when you see a Flashbang go bang.
I am trying to design a creepy castle at night, so if possible, the flash should not be seen when indoors, at least not when not looking outside.
Also related, is there any way to simulate thunder on the sky/clouds? I don't mean the lightning bolt, but rather small sections of the sky going white.

The only things that were installed on top of the Half-Life valve folder is a map.
I forgot to mention, but it happens more often after I save my game and later reload it.
I could get to the part where you launch the rocket/whatever (sorry, don't remember the chapter name) in one play without dying, and everything works fine (needless to say, this was in Easy mode). But if I save and reload even while on the Unforeseen Consequences chapter, it crashes.

Any clue?

EDIT:
This does not happen ALWAYS, but quite often.

LOL It's me again!

The problem I have is that whenever I play Half-Life in Single Player, at some point or the other it just crashes, with no error dialog whatsoever. It happens most often when changing maps.

What could be the problem?

Hello guys.

I recently created a map, and after closing WC, and reopening the map, it loads and displays it, but the editor does not respond and I'm forced to kill it.

Has this happened to you before?
Is there any way to rescue my hard work?

Also, I'm running both WC and Counter-Strike under Linux with Wine.
Could it be possible that it's a problem with Wine?

I don't currently have access to a Windows box, so tell me whether or not you are able to open it on Windows.

BTW I'm running Wine 1.3.13 under Lucid Puppy Linux 525.

The aforementioned map is available here. It's in RMF format.

For Alt-P, it said no errors were found.
I think I will take the non-solid with the trigger_hurt option, since the brush rotates at speed 2000 (maybe too fast?) and there is no way any player will be able to pass throught it (not that I want them to anyway).
So many thanks for your reply.

in Problems with func_rotating Post #309142
Hello.

This is my first post here, and I don't know if this belongs to this category.
Please excuse me if I'm posting this where I shouldn't.

Anyway, here's my problem.

I have made a map that has an helicopter from where the CSs are "deployed", and I used a func_rotating to make the rotor. At first I did not know how to do it, but thanks to some tutorials on this site, I learned you have to add an "ORIGIN" textured brush. Nevermind that.

My real problem is that now whenever you "hit" something with your head while crouching (for example, crawling through vents, or even touching the ceiling while crouch-jumping), it acts as if the player (either you or a bot) is "blocking" the rotating brush, so the block damage applies.

Is there any way I can fix it, i.e, to only damage if you actually touch the rotor?
