in glass looks like nodraw Post #171082
glass will NOT render correctly with anything but NODRAW on all sides. In other words, one brush with glass must only have one face with a glass texture applied. All other faces MUST be a NODRAW. Put another brush behind it if you want concrete.
This is only func_breakable_surf.

It might because there's concrete and glass on the same brush. Try texturing all the non-visible sides NODRAW or INVISIBLE.

in Anyone else mad at Source mapping? Post #170549
I think he's right.
Source mapping makes noobs stand in the spotlight while the hardworking pwnages are so rare comparing to the noobs, they dissapare behind the scene
Not at all. If you frequent a site like CSM2, maybe this is true. Otherwise, not really.
I love source mapping, but did you ever think its more inviting for noobs to make maps than HL1? I mean it lets you run the map when there are leaks and problems, you dont even need to set the tools configurations (That what I thought was the most frustrating) and more people release killbox than ever before! The configuration of Hammer was like a shield that screened out idiots from making crappy maps. Now simply hit refresh game config and there you go. You can always see a good mapper from a noob mapper, but it seems more and more crap maps get out there in the internet like cs_assault old. This map is so bad! (no draw was NOT used, proportion is wrong, 5 story building as tall as a player!) compared to CS_xmas which is a godly map that NOONe EVEN HEARD OF! Ive also been seeing peoples maps with brushwork pulled out of other maps! People ask how to decompile claiming to learn, but just STEAL! Im sorry for this looong rant, but im just sick of shit mappers getting their little maps played more than deserving ones! RANT! RANT!!!!! :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious:
Mappers' fault, then, if they really care about decompilers. Most people just ignore it or ask the member to remove it, that or expose the person responsible (ie, Nexus from the NS forums a while ago) - If you're concerned about it add the no_decomp field to any entity or use a tools/locked texture.

Aye, it means it didn't wadinclude properly. Check to make sure the file isn't read-only, and that Windows can access the file (put it in half-lifevalve).

Also, yes, it only includes used textures.

I reckon it can be decompiled...It is a .bsp and I have never met a map that can't be decompiled.
If your BSP Version number is not supported by VMEX it cannot be decompiled. Beta maps use v15 BSP files, if I recall, therefore VMEX shouldn't support them for example.

Also if anyone paid attention to my post they'd notice that v20 (HDR) maps are supported by VMEX 0.97 (The version being used here is v0.96) - Lost Coast is a v20 BSP and decompiles properly with VMEX 0.97b, as do the DOD maps and de_nuke/militia and CS:S HDR maps.

in Source Decompiler Post #169482
The Batch code is fine.

http://www.geocities.com/cofrdrbob/faq.html
Q. Why do I get the message "Unknown map file ident or version"?

A. VMEX will only decompile .bsp files of maps made for the Half-Life 2 Source engine (e.g., for HL2, HL2DM, and Counter-Strike: Source). It cannot decompile maps made for Half-Life 1 (or its mods, such as Counter-Strike 1.6 and Condition Zero) or for other games which use the BSP format such as the Quake series.

The game Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines is based on the Source engine, but uses an earlier version of the bsp file format (17, rather than 19 as is used in HL2). As of v0.95, the decompiler partially supports this format. Some things, such as VTMB's modified entity I/O connections, are not handled correctly by the Hammer editor in the HL2 SDK. Note also that it is not possible to recompile these maps in a form suitable for VTMB unless somebody writes compiler tools that produce version 17 BSP files.

As of version 0.97, VMEX also has initial support for version 20 bsp files, as used for the HDR-enabled maps in the Day of Defeat: Source release.
I think your VMEX copy is outdated. v0.96 doesn't support v20 BSP files. v0.97 does.

Don't directly run the jar file, invoke it with Vmex2.bat.

If that fails, update your Java Runtime Environment or invoke VMEX directly via commandline to decompile the file.

I like the props, quite abit. They'll definitely help out with this map.

I think some larger machinery/equipment should help replace the crates. Minecarts? Polishing machines? Crushers? There's a vareity of mine equipment that would fit in here. Rocks and bags of crystal would get overused pretty quick, but since they are custom, people will be more tolerant of it. They're not HL2 barrels/crates, at least! They're more intersting to look at. Also, you can place them in various setups (rocks, crystals, bags leaning on rocks, etc)

That's software DX. Cards have their own Hardware DX level. The 5200 FX is DirectX 8.1 hardware, for example - Everyone should be running HW DX9.0c.

That particular card doesn't seem to have HW DX capabilities. (Check down the page: http://www.visiontek.com/all_products.html )

in Getting CS:S textures into HL2 SDK Maps Post #167090
I know you can probably modify the gameinfo file to mount the CSS GCF but for redistribution to everyone in a HL2 map you'll have to include the files - Which makes the GCFScape option more sensible. Pretty much, go into the CSS Shared GCF and extract the materials/models you want into the HL2 /materials or /models directory. That simple!

Aye, you can disable that.

Rowley: It doesn't actually download the data, it just creates temporary cache files as placeholders so it won't run out of space during the potential download. They're redundant data, so they're fairly quick to create. That's why when you install a new Steam game and it has to update initially - All the installation did was partition off the space for Steam to use.
