You play it,map for it and mod for it.But what does "Half-Life" really mean?
(no its just doesnt means a 1/2 life)
As far as I remember it means a radioactive material's measure.
Do you know what it really means?

A half-life is the time in which a virus can survive in the open..

anthrax has one of the highest Half-Lifes, being able to survive for years

Define:
Half-Life - the time required for something to fall to half its initial value (in particular, the time for half the atoms in a radioactive substance to disintegrate)

a half life is also how long it takes for half of the mass of some radioactive material to breakdown

'Half-life
The time in which one-half of the activity of a particular radioactive substance is lost due to radioactive decay. Measured half-lives vary from millionths of a second to billions of years. Also called physical or radiological half-life.'

Im pretty sure thats balls :

yeah half-life* Is the time taken for half of a radioactive partical is lost due to decay.

not 'a half-life'

I think of Half-Life as ones 50 years gone by fast because of the shit that goes on in Black Mesa...So much scary crap, no wonder the Sci's look old! They must have lost a few years being scared!

They're all scientific terms.

Half-life (explained before i know) - rate of decay for a material to half its initial size i.e. from 40 to 20 in 5 years, then from 20 to 10 in five years, 10 - 5, 5 - 2.5 etc. all in the same amount of time.

Opposing Force - any force that counters another acting force, i.e friction resists movement of tyres. Cant exactly remember the proper explanation

Blue Shift - lights change in wavelength (decrease) into the blue spectrum (i.e. blue light), an upwards shift into red light is called a 'red shift'. Also has something to do with particles(?) and electromagnetic radiation. This is a very loose explanation too as i cant exactly remember.

One of the few times i payed attention in Physics. I remember everyone thinking i was such a HL geek that as soon as we learned what Half-Life actually was every just stared at me and shook their heads, funny.

half life is the time it takes for half of the atoms in an unstable isotope of an element to decay. stable elements which have their stable number of neutrons do not have a half life.
notice that the symbol for half life isnt lambda - lambda is the symbol for wavelength

And guess what, one Half-Life community is called Wavelength... no sign of a lambda on that page, though. ;)
But isn't the lambda also in use as a symbol for decay constant?

not sure it might be?

All elements have a half-life.....it's just that the half-life of incredibly stable elements are SOO long some haven't even been accurately measured (but have been predicted)

The lack of farm equipment in the half-life universe is disturbing, considering the Combine plays a major part.
