Ok everyone, we know there's going to be bugs, so post them in here. Please use this formatting:
  • Bug number 1
  • Bug number 2
  • etc
We shall try and handle them as best we can. As far as we know, there are no overly crippling bugs at the moment, but tell us if there are. Thanks!

Known bugs and fixes:

HTML code (• and the like) appearing in journals/forums/other places
[m]Edit the text (if possible), and the new system should take care of it.[/m]

Avatars in the forums and other places overlap the side
[m]Clear your browser cache, or press f5 whenever you see it[/m]

Formatting in competition pages/other places contains HTML entries (<strong>, etc)
[m]These will be edited out by the admins in time.[/m]

"More Screenshots" link in the vault doesn't work
[m]The code for this is not operational at the moment, it will be soon[/m]

Only one page on the search page is visible
[m]Will be fixed in time[/m]

Where does it say I'm logged in?
[m]We're looking into adding something next to the search form. wait for it.[/m]

Some people may have random logout issues.
[m]I have never encountered this. if you have not enabled cookies, enable them. cookies are used when the php session times out (if a page is not loaded for a while). otherwise, make a note of what you were doing at the time and send Penguinboy a PM about it.[/m]

Uploading images in the tutorial form deletes my content!
[m]Save your content before uploading images.[/m]

Some tables look weird (missing borders on empty cells)
[m]This is a design issue, and a fix is not known. We will look into it in the future, but not any time soon.[/m]

Where's "Recent Maps"
[m]It is not gone forever, it will return soon.[/m]

I can't read the thread list!
[m]We're planning on subtle background colour changes. Until then, wear glasses or something.[/m]

AIM, Steam, Xfire, last login, etc. details are not appearing in profiles
[m]Will plan to fix soon.[/m]

Shoutbox Live looks messy
[m]Planning on an update in the near future.[/m]

Magic BBCode Buttons don't insert text at the cursor like the smilies, it puts it at the end.
[m]Will also be fixed in the near future.[/m]

Icons in places (entity guide, etc) are wrong
[m]Waiting on Strider to make new ones.[/m]

Strider sucks!
[m]This is a known problem. A fix is currently not known.[/m]

Create a singleplayer or multiplayer map from the following 2D layout. If singleplayer, the map must have a definite start and finish. Otherwise, the only rule is that it adhere to the layout as much as possible.

Allowed games are:

<strong>Singleplayer:</strong>

Half-Life 1 (STEAM COMPATIBLE)

Half-Life 2 (Via Source SDK Base)

<strong>Multiplayer:</strong>

Half-Life: Deathmatch

Half-Life 2: Deathmatch

Counter-Strike

Counter-Strike: Source

<strong>About the layout:</strong>

The layout is multi-levelled, with the blue level above the pink one. The white levels may be above or below their adjoining levels.

The stairs are just a guide. These may be replaced by a ramp or some other means of traversing the height difference.

The alcoves in green are optional additions, and are examples of where the layout can be varied slightly without breaking the rules.

Note that this layout is for walkable area only, extra stuff can be added for cosmetic purposes, as long as it is not traversable. Also note that the layout has no scale, and is not limited to indoors. Elements such as stairs, rooms and hallways can be stretched to your liking, as long as it represents the basic structure of the layout.

<span style="font-size: 20;">DOWNLOAD THE LARGE LAYOUT HERE: click</span>

This competition is for Half-Life 1 and Source, but they will be judged together, and there will be only 1 first place. Custom content is allowed.

Credit to Rimrook for the layout.
Competition Briefing looks like some of the code is a BIT OFF. Comes as a result of the old style method of formatting TWHL pages. Will be fixed. - Ant

  • There may be something up with threads of more than 2 pages long that are preexisting, like that of my tutorials thread. I'm using opera so I have no idea if its specific to this browser or not. If someone may confirm that for me it'd be nice. what is the problem? -pb
  • The more screenshots function in the Map Vault leads me directly back to the front page instead of whatever its supposed to do. code not dont yet.-pb

  • When you search for members their bios do not display and neither do their avatars (possibly intentional?).
intentional for avatars. bio's will show eventually.
  • The only page that tells me I am logged in as fourthgen is the front page. It's not a bug per se but it would be nice to have some sort of universal confirmation across all pages that I am still logged in as me.
looking into it.-pb

I have to admit, on the whole TWHL3 is a lot more polished than I was expecting. I just have to wait until the server isn't being rammed up the backside by TWHL'ers to check how much slower it is.

its for custom smileys and images that belong in with the text. it'll do what you're aksing.

Also noticed there isn't the new rating system for maps I heard about... was it changed? In transit. ;) - Ant

2 The search function for Map Vault is acting weird: If I type "star wars" Jobabob's map doesn't come up, plus results not containing those terms do.

3 Search bar resets to tutorials. Liek, if you do a search in the map vault, and then click on a map link, the search topic changes back to tutorials. Not a big deal and I can't even remember how it worked on the old site. (i thought if you set it to "forums" it would stay on fourms until you logged out, maybe?)

Or is all of this still WIP?

captain t:
1: fixed

2: look here
the search function might look a bit crappy, but it's actually much better than the original one. you can search for an "exact match", force words to be +included or -excluded, and everything else searches for a match on only one of the terms. so in the search 'star wars' (without quotes), it shows up results with the word 'star', and with the word 'wars'. the search will have pages in the near future.

3: will be fixed when i add pages to the search. it will be tutorials when you're looking at tutorials, maps in the vault, etc.

muzz: the reason you can't see the admin stuff is because there is no admin panel yet, so i'm keeping users out of admin until i do that (tomorrow). you'll be able to see the moderator forums then too.

alex: that is caused by your cache remembering the old versions of the avatars. press f5 whenever you see an oversized avatar, or just clear your cache.

We've decreased the maximum dimensions for avatars to keep things more unified. We designed it that way to make it neater.

Oh yeah, thanks PB, clearing cache works.

Another thing, though this is probably just personal taste, but I preferred the threads in the forums being in a table format, each one being separated by a line, although it looks nice and clean now, everything seems to blend into one...

Penquinboy:

kk. With the search function again maybe you could add if you search for something in quotes, it also gives you the results without spaces, like:

dm_starwars

So if you searhed "star wars", that map would show too.

It's not a huge deal, I just remebered getting moar results on the old TWHL. Will comment terms be included eventually too?
Captain Terror Captain Terrorwhen a man loves a woman
Posted 16 years ago2008-02-23 11:31:58 UTC Post #246319
nope. why would anyone want to search comments? they are specific to each map.
Penguinboy PenguinboyHaha, I died again!
Posted 16 years ago2008-02-23 11:34:44 UTC Post #246322
That's exactly why.

The comments pertain to that map, so if someone is talking about the cool func_train in your map in comments, someone searching "func_train" would get that map in the search results.

Don't think this has been said, but the process of resizing all the avatars for TWHL3 borked around some of the transparent png's (the background turns black). Simply reupload them to fix 'em.

Is this a sort of improvement? There was no question like "remember me" . I only told firefox to remember.

You can't upload to the vault if your map is >2mb.

As far as i can tell, it still looks for the upload when you hit submit rather than the provided link.

I agree.

Maybe not a line, but with every other thread, make it a shade different from the default.

Same for stickied threads, except makes those darker so they're designated and clearly there.

Okay, this might not be the time to bring up little features that are missing, but it seems to me like you should be able to view all the threads and posts that certain members have made, presumably somewhere in their profile. An advanced search feature would be fine for this too. I doubt I'm the first person who's brought this up.

Oh, and another very minor design related thing that's somewhet subjective: On the main entity guide page, where you select between Counter-Strike and Half-Life entities, the text for the entity types is very subtle and hardly noticeable. When you compare it to that meaningless little clickable icon below, it seems completely insubstantial. Shouldn't the type of entity you're selecting be displayed pretty boldly, right there next to the icon instead of being shoved up there in the right hand corner?
