I guess most of you probably don't know yet, but I've got my present from my wife already.

She got me a Team Fortress 2 lithograph and a poster for the cake from Aperture Science.

I have such a cool wife.

Seriously though, I'd love to get my hands on an Aperture Science mug. That'd make my day.

That lithograph would be awesome hanging behind my computer.

A little expensive, though.

And yes, absolute wife awesomeness.

On another note, it seems that I'll finally have widescreenz for my desktop rig as a Christmas present. It's about time to dump that 10 year old CRT.

I am getting the TF2 lithograph framed.

It cost me $80 to frame that, but it's done professionally.

It's going to hang in our dining room .

I predict that by the time Satchmo's son is old enough to play TF2, we'll still be waiting for EP3. You heard it here first.

I'd love to get one of those headcrab thingies you put on your head. :)

I'd like to have one of those too, if they were a bit bigger. I usually drink 4 times the size of that cup, or even more.

Something like that, but a bit smaller. My cup's size is 0,5l. So i usually drink 2-3 cups of tea, and 1 cup if it's coffee.

Heh, as much as I love gaming itself, I couldn't give a damn for game attributes. It just feels well.... I dunno, I know it's for the sake of being a fan or whatnot but I find it somewhat silly to be a gamefan to such an extent. I suppose i'm either too serious or simply not that much of a gamer then..

Btw striker, GTFO with those pictures; they don't add anything.

All those Aperture Lab posters I put up yesterday fell down overnight.

The one that's over his crib fell into his crib, so he thoroughly molested it into a crumbled mess.

Oh well. They were good for a day.

32GB iPod Touch. Just because I listen to that much music in my free time. Sure beats the hell out of my old 2nd Gen 4Gb Nano though.

Separate parts!

ASRock ALiveNF5-eSATA2+R3.0 (motherboard, supposedly better for gamers)
Dual AMD 2x2.6 (clocks at 5.0Ghz)
ATI Saphire HD 3870 - 512mb DDR4
4Gb DDR2 RAM (I've got 2gb right now, putting in the other two later :>)

Finaly I get to play COD4 with graphics set on sexy

How come you're getting an AMD chip? Why not a Core2 or Quad Core? Clock speed isn't so meaningful anymore.
satchmo satchmo“Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better. -- Samuel Beckett”
Posted 15 years ago2008-12-24 20:34:52 UTC Post #260554
What are you on about? Dual is the same as Core2, zept Core2 is a 2 cored intel CPU, while a dual is a 2 cored AMD CPU (correct me if I'm wrong?)
And of course clock speed is meaningful. It's what defines how fast it is.

Core 2 != 2 cores
For example there is Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Extreme and Core 2 Solo.
Posted 15 years ago2008-12-24 20:42:05 UTC Post #260557
I'm confused.
Core 2 Quad?
Shouldn't that translate into 8 cores?

Posted 15 years ago2008-12-24 20:45:47 UTC Post #260558
The number 2 doesn't have anything to do with the number of cores.
They could have called Core 2 Core 1.99 or Core 1337.
Stupid name, yes.
Posted 15 years ago2008-12-24 20:47:38 UTC Post #260559
I stand corrected!

Anyways, Dual core. It's capable of running all games today, so I still don't get what Satchmo was on about.
It won't run Crysis on Very High, but it will run it on Medium/High

He meant that Intel are doing better in the CPU race at the moment, but it's all relative. Similar priced AMD and Intel CPUs perform about the same, but Intel CPUs have models that go way over the AMD top CPU. I prefer AMD, myself. I currently have the best AMD CPU that exists at the moment, quad core Phenom 9950. The equivalent Intel in the same price range is like the 8850, and then it goes way up to triple that price on the top Intel models.
Penguinboy PenguinboyHaha, I died again!
Posted 15 years ago2008-12-26 08:22:59 UTC Post #260614
Intel i7 totally facerapes anything AMD has to offer right now ridiculously hard D: The prices look decent on the surface as well, but the catch is that all of the good suitable motherboards cost more than the chip itself (unless you buy a 965..). Core 2 is old hat, the highest end model is slower than the cheapest i7, and when you take into account that 920's aren't very sensitive to temperature, clock really well on air and scale really well with clockspeeds, nothing really compares to them.

Anyway, I got some DVD's and clothes and that's about it, but I'm buying a new monitor as a late present to myself anyway.
m0p m0pIllogical.

Yes it will. Running Core 2 Duo E8500 here with Crysis nigh-maxed (dropped the AA). Runs fine. Warhead, even better.
Graphics cards are more important than CPUs regarding gaming (I have an 8800 GT).
Posted 15 years ago2008-12-26 10:39:50 UTC Post #260617
I think in this economy, it's getting increasingly more difficult for AMD to ever catch up with Intel.

I used to prefer AMD, because it offers a better deal for similar performance. Intel has priced their newest CPU's rather competitively, considering how much faster they are. AMD will keep playing catch-up, until they can no longer do even that.

That's why I bought hundreds of shares of Intel stocks recently.

Apple's introduction of Intel macs probably cost the AMD guys a bit of sleep as well lol.

But on the subject of christmas, got some cool stuff like vinyls and some guitar gear and cd's. Plenty of money too, I'm buying myself a 500gb external and a firewire cable. the 120gb internal on the MBPs is ridiculously small for a gamer.
