As of the last 6 months, a small group of HL enthusiasts have been working on our new mod named "Half-Life: Static Friction". I am the coder so I have made a little trailer to show off what you can expect in our mod but I won't tell you the storyline, because that is not my department and it's not ready yet, but I can say it will be a major addition to the Half-Life storyline.

Omg! Did i saw that correct? Headcrabs detach from their hosts (the zombie) as soon as you kill it?

Would you mind telling me how that's done? I tried to add this into my Uplink Extended mod but failed horribly. I will give you full credit.

I'm almost positive I read a tutorial once that provided all the code and models need to implement that, Muzzle. Can't find the link though.

here used to be a tutorial on this at the old VERC website before it got shut down.

When a zombie is killed, the mesh changed to one without a headcrab, and a new headcrab is spawned on the location where the head was, inheriting the facing and such. Likely with an attachment of sorts.

Pretty much on death, spawn headcrab at attachment. the rest is model work.

if thats now how it was done, you did it the hard way :(

Wow, I didn't realize VERC got shut down, I hadn't been there for so long. That place still had a ton of great info I never got around to using. :(

That pistol model is far too large. It obstructs the players view far too much.

The shotgun model too, looks a little strange. I think its the arm...

Maps look about average.

I'd offer to make hammer props and detail existing architecture just for fun. I'm not really any good at Scripting, but am pretty versed with the original HL entities. Did someone say this is spirit?

Yeah, that was a real pain as i lost alot of data.

1. The mod uses Spirit 1.5 alpha 4
2. Headcrabs are coded to jump off the headcrabs, there was a tutorial on the VERC but like you guys have said it is down. It was fine just a few weeks ago.

I saved all the HL1 coding related tutorials from VERC if anyone wants them.

@Muzz, will send you the tutorial and the models but i have found a recent bug with it so be warned, will tell you more when i send it.

You need mapping help/advice or do you need a mapper to work on a chapter of yours?
Help I'm sure most of us can provide, as for actual mapping - pretty much everyone capable is occupied with his own projects.

or... have a nice little scripted sequence in there, and have a merc team fly by on a tram chasing some aliens on a different tram, and have one crash and expload, resulting in moving of the object.

but still require the activation (multi_source) of the crane button to start it all. even have the crane start to move then all of a sudden!!!! action!

It is coming along. Slowly, unfortunetly, but it is coming. I have temporarily stopped mapping because of the current compo but a short beta version is coming soon. Now that i have the Steam version of HL and detailed textures and we found some good hi-def Half-life textures so we are also going back over the maps to update them.

On another note, if you know any good Half-Life coders who have Microsoft Visual NET 2003. Please let me know. I have kinda reached my capabilities without help from other coders.

Okay, after a bit of thorough play-testing, some issues have been brought up, some of which are quite trivial, but some are more concerning. Due to this, we have delayed the release until we resolve as many issues as possible. Mainly because some users are experiencing loading errors and there are performance issues with some maps. vs49688 and myself do apologize for the constant delays but we wish to ensure we release quality product rather than un-playable trash.

Nice. What's the story BTW? I understand it implements many new features, but that's almost all I know about this mod. I am currently DLing the trailer, But I want the storyline!
EDIT: Nice. Fast headcrabs, sniper rifles... I suggest that whoever made the 9mm pistol in the video scale it down, it's a bit to small. The maps are WIP, so I won't comment on them, although I noticed half the maps shown were the original ones showing off new tech and effects. Also, Since you're using Kate, I assume she is 'open source' and anyone can use her in a mod, by permission of the author? And storywise, Is it another "Guy in Black Mesa" mod, or is it further on in the HL storyline/Another place than BM?
I want answers, guys.

Indeed, however, most of the content we used we either free to use or used with permission. On another note, alot of it we have not obtained permission and is open to be removed should said content's author comes forward and complains.

We are also redesigning the intro to the demo, this means more delays but actually cuts time out of the final release as it is the actual intro :)

Oh yes, we always credit where we can, unless said author has not clearly defined themselves as the author...but the amount of stuff we used, much of which emails were sent to but we never got a reply, its difficult to keep on top of permissions when people don't reply to emails
