Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

A twisted cold war satire and black comedy, with Peter Sellers playing three different roles. Great performances, great camerawork, great comedic effect. Thank you for your awesome movies, Mr. Kubrick.

I still haven't seen Strangelove, and it's been on my list for such a long time.

Bah, I'll get to it eventually.

I saw Avatar on the 20th, and I liked it. It was in 2D, but it was still rather impressive.

Dr. Strangelove is awesome. Mr. Kubrick is indeed quite the genius, and Mr. Sellers quite an actor. Greatly recommended.

Zombieland.

First zombie movie I ever thoroughly enjoyed, comedy or not, and that includes Shaun of the Dead.

I've seen Inglorious Basterds recently, too. Pretty light on that campy violence of Tarantino's last movies, which is good. Although the very last scene made me squirm a bit. D:

Went to see Sherlock Holmes on Sunday. Kind of junky and familiar in places, but worth the price of a ticket, I suppose.

Heh, I agree, the last scene was pretty over-the-top, but I think it worked with the rest of the movie and its general message.

I'm rather delinquent on my movie reviewing.

Seen recently:

Up
Sad as fuck, very awesome in the story telling. No wonder it won so many awards. I recommend it to all.

Stranger than Fiction
Will Ferral in a serious role, he plays it well. Another good movie with a good message behind it.

Fame (1980)
This movie definitely shows how shitty going through art school really is. Kudos for nailing that aspect, but funny how it hasn't changed in almost 30 years.

Fame (2009)
Not as good as the first, I just couldn't care about the character's problems.

Hairspray
Fun if you like musicals.

Family Guy: Something Something Something Darkside
Witty and humorous as it gets for Family Guy. They poked a lot of fun at Star Wars, I think there were a few jokes I didn't understand. Either way I loved it.

Young Frankenstein
Having finished this one quite yet, disc is skipping. Although you can't go wrong with classic Mel Brooks films, especially starring Gene Wilder.

Donnie Darko
Great and fucked up cultural classic. I can see why so many people like it. I recommend it.

S Darko
A sequel of Donnie Darko that follows his youngest sister. Not as fucked up or as dark as the first, but more confusing because they tried almost too hard to honor the first one.

The Sixth Sense
I knew how this movie ended because of the mass amount of spoilers out there. However, it was a rather sweet story and it wasn't as scary as it was formerly portrayed. I loved it.

Inglourious Basterds
Tarantino never dissapoints. This movie was raw and rather suspenseful. The story didn't follow who you might think it would follow, but I guess it makes sense if you think about how the ending worked. Well told story for a fictional WW2 movie. I liked it a lot and also recommend it if you haven't seen it.

The End.

Trainspotting
Pretty great narrative with an intense message-- very introspective, very quirky. Very much my kind of movie.
Reminiscent of Guy Ritchie films, but with emphasis on druggies instead of organized crime.
However, I felt that the ending was quite a let down with minimal closure.
I'd give it a 7.5/10, where 10/10 is life-changing.

Incomplete sentences.

Funny People
From the writer of Knocked Up and The 40 Year Old Virgin.
A dying comedian
Not a comedy, but rather a quirky drama with a lot of depressing undertones. But I knew this before watching.
Excellent premise and execution up until about halfway through, where the plot turns 180 degrees and starts leaning toward romance.
Though arguably Adam Sandler's best serious role, which was played very well, I wasn't entirely sure I liked the character by the end of the movie.
SPOILER: I was very disappointed to see Simmons get cured fairly early in the movie. From there, the movie is sort of just filler, and frankly I feel a "happily ever after" ending only hurt the film.

First half of the movie gets an 8.25/10, while the second half gets a 5/10.

I don't know what to say but this film gives me shivers. Do I feel that I have no fears about nuclear weapons now? This film is.... oh and Dr. Strangelove....
You know, I thought this is a calm film, without any cool action or something. But it seems I underestimated it. Don't judge by face....
Or am I becoming aware of the evilness of the military?

I saw 28 Weeks Later recently. it was alright, but it definitely wasn't as good as the first one. And some of it was just too ridiculous, like when the helicopter cut up all the zombies in the field.

There were only 3 things I liked about 28 Weeks later. That was one of them.
Second was Bobby Carlyle's acting, which is excellent in everything he's in.
Third was Imogen Poots' eyes.

Everything else about that film was balls. Compared to the original, at least.

The Road
I felt that the character of the wife was very flat, but the rest of the movie was fan. fucking. tastic.

I've been wanting to see a post apoc movie done like this for years. Even if you're not a fan of narratives, some of the panoramas alone make this movie worth seeing.

I'm most definitely buying it when I get the chance. 9/10

Taken was fucking hilarious. Corny emotional scenes and then the guy just runs around beating everybody up like he's invincible or something.

And The Road was just straight up depressing. And then the blatant Coka Cola ad halfway through the movie totally ruined the atmosphere.

Then again, there are many movies out there that are better than it. If you watch it, though, I'm sure it won't waste your time.
