I am watching Ponyo, the latest film by Miyazaki.

It's wonderful, as usual.

I Lol'd at the inflator. I never really liked the Moore-era of Bond films, they always seemed so corny to me.

Anyway, I've been watching Rome season 1-2 lately. I know it's not a movie per se but I don't care. Fantastic show, I recommend it to everyone.

I watched Twilight and New Moon with my GF. We laughed at the shit the whole way through, which was why we decided to watch them anyway.

Also watched:
The Men Who Stare At Goats
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
The Boondock Saints II
Alvin and the Chipmunks (1 and 2)
Kinsey
The Princess and the Frog

Ha i just watched fifth Element today (before i saw the thread). I think it's superb! It's visually beautiful, hardcore action mixed with light-hearted humor, and Bruce Willis saving the universe from evil; what's not to love?! I also love to see movies that try to depict the far future, and in this aspect, The Fifth Element is my fav.

)

As for the Bond film, i dunno i love Casino Royale.. maybe i'm just gay for Daniel Craig?

saribous: noted and added to the cue. =)

Strider: LOL that is priceless. i kinda liked LALD, but probably because it had Dr. Quinn Medicine Women when she was young and super-hot..

)

I am watching Ponyo, the latest film by Miyazaki.
god i dunno, that could be the most pointless/stupid animated film i've ever seen, but since you give it a high recommendation, i'll give it another try?

Watched "Undead or Alive". A very stupid zombedy, it was funny in the beginning but then it just got stupid, as they all seem to do these days. I also watched Stan Helsing which I actually found so boring, I fell asleep to it.

It's probably the most overrated movie ever.
Posted 14 years ago2010-04-01 05:42:09 UTC Post #280155
It being overrated is debatable. Same goes for why it needed about 50 billion different versions.

Still a good movie.

Clash Of The Titans [2010]
Dumb and boring. the only good/interesting scenes are from the trailer, and the 3D looks stupid and completely nonexistent through most of the film. I wanted to leave halfway through and i almost did.

(

yeah i love cyberbunk as much as anyone but i didn't care for BR all that much... (got to see the "flying car" from mgm studios in their junk pile, that was kinda cool i guess.. = )

Three more for me:

Shutter Island
Pretty good movie with some nice twists, bit of a mindfuck. Recommended

The Lovely Bones
This movie likes to drag on and on and on. The visual style is really cool but the story is lacking, with some moments that are just "wtf, get to the point" and an ending that is completely unsatisfying. One scene in particular is really annoying, wherein a character has a revelation but somehow forgets to tell everyone because her family is having a reunion. The very reason for the separation of said family is connected to what she's discovered so there's no logical reason as to why she wouldn't just shout it out immediately. Peter Jackson dropped the ball on this one.

And finally, interstate 60. I liked this movie a lot. I had never even heard of it before yesterday. It's about a guy who has an encounter with a genie-type figure, and gets one wish granted. All I can say is, watch it. :)

I thought that Shutter Island's "brainfuck" was douchy because they literally "show" you his imagined characters. You never really know whether they're real or not because they're showing you all of it >_>

The Blind Side

I watched this with my family when my sister rented it over Easter.
Miraculously, it actually has very little to do with football.
Pretty good movie and hilariously witty, but some of of the sad parts felt very forced. Great performance by all involved.

The '67 Casino Royale. I have to say, even with all the bad puns, cheese, and "WTF is going on?" moments, it's written better than the latest one.

Plus it has Woody Allen as a supervillain.

What's there not to like about it? They don't make films like that anymore... the 80's and 90's were great in terms of action films; Universal Soldier, Robocop, Street Fighter, Terminator, Total Recall...
Posted 14 years ago2010-04-07 19:36:58 UTC Post #280342
Pok?mon films: Mewtwo Strikes Back, Jirachi: Wish Maker and Destiny Deoxys. Wish Maker was ok, the others were great.

Robocop, terminator, and total recall are on my all-time favourites list, but i wouldn't rank those other you mentioned any where near them..

I have just finished watching "El Secreto De Sus Ojos" (The Secret In Their Eyes), an Argentine film that recently won several international awards.

I tend to distrust such films, especially when given as homework, but I have to accept that both films I got as such (the other one being Goodbye Lenin, a German film that won several awards as well) were very good. I hope future homework films are good too :P

So if you can get your hands on either, do it.

They showed Goodbye Lenin on television earlier this year. It was good, but unfortunately I missed the first half hour or so.

I had never seen American Beauty before. I never even knew what it was about.
So I finally decided to watch it after hearing the name for years, and now I'm in awe.
I'd need more time to make a definitive verdict, but right now I want to say that it's probably one of the greatest movies I've ever seen.

I just watched L?on yesterday and thought it was fantastic. Been repeating scenes and lines in my head all day. That scene with Mathilda standing in front of Leon's door hoping that he would open it was OUTSTANDING.
Sidenote: I strongly felt that the characters were very anime-ish in their personalities and their quirks. The humble, introverted over-the-top-pro contract killer with a preference for milk, the scary-psychotic lover of classical music with a mysterious drug to use "in the calm before a storm", the orphan with a troubled past who wants to learn the trade of contract killing, etc.

Now, I just finished watching Falling Down. It was pretty good, but not what I expected. Micheal Douglas's character really stole the show, but before watching I thought he was supposed to be an average, every-day man. Turns out he's just a raving lunatic with anger issues. They sort of explain why throughout the movie, but never really do more than skim the surface. Because of that, I never really sympathized with the antagonist but knew that the I was supposed to. The rest of the characters felt 1-dimensional.

Saw "District 9" finally.

It's really a film about racism. The science fiction aspect was trite, but I enjoyed the humor and the racist commentary in the movie.

I didn't know that "District 9" resulted from the failed attempt to make "Halo" into a motion picture until I watched the documentary.

I don't feel that it's appropriate to put the two on the same level. The only thing to two share in common are a word in their titles.

Great movies, the both of them, but I wouldn't recommend one based on how someone liked the other.

I'm just back from seeing Clash Of The Titans, in 3D. It lacked in script, and it lacked in 3D. It didn't completely suck because there are a few hotties in there. Which I guess were there to divert attention away from the unworked script and poor 3D.

Ah, Clash of the Titans. I'll spare you a rant on that film.

Iron Man 2
Fun movie with a fair chunk of sequelitus. The first film didn't really set any precedent of realism, and this one does nothing to change that, but I don't mind that. I enjoyed it, for what it is.

Not enough to warrant saying the two films are very similar. I can only assume you are defining The American Dream here as breaking from a redundant lifestyle in order to chase contentedness, but that's already a popular theme. I mean, by that logic, you should be able to recommend Office Space alongside the two. But the premise, plot, execution, and obviously the characters in the two films are very, very different.
American beauty is a story firmly grounded in the suburban, white collar lifestyle.
American Psycho is a story firmly grounded in the urban, executive lifestyle .

The plot of each film tackles very different objectives that I feel are driven by very different emotions, primarily being sympathy vs confusion respectively. I can be more specific if you feel that this is too vague.

Saw Iron Man 2 yesterday. I was a bit meh'd, as I always am by these American movies with a lot of fluff and no real content. As far as action, effects and coolness goes it was great, if you're content with that you'll love it.

Never said they were very similar. Personally, I always felt some strong tie between Beauty and Psycho, however I can't really put my finger on what that tie actually is. Either way, feel free to ignore my recommendation due to lack of supporting analysis from my end.

Also, saw Bad Lieutenant yesterday. Quite liked it, even with the lackluster ending & celeb plugs. Cage did a nice job portraying the complete insanity of a twitchy coke addict going up shit creek.

Saw The Losers. It had its moments, but it was pretty inconsistent and not real memorable. I'll probably forget about it in a few weeks. Didn't have much to set it apart from any other generic action/adventure shit, but at least it didn't take itself to seriously. That'll really bring a movie down.

Yeah, I agree, alot of the time it did'nt really make sense.. like how the hell did the main badguy get away so quick? The main character jumps into the water, to stop a 'antimatter'(??) bomb from going off, then the antagonist dissappears..
