Hi everyone

I'm pretty new to mapping, I would like to know how to create realistic dunes of sand (I.E. the one near the hole in the wall near the boxes at dust2). Just the lumpiness of the terrain, how do you produce it.

The second question is why when I put basic prefabs their shape is fine but the textures are way off and too large compared to the prefab (as if someone made the texture bigger)?

Thanks everyone.

as for the first question there is a tutorial here http://cariad.co.za/twhl/tutorial.php?id=50
as for the second make sure texture lock is pressed in the top right of your screen.

I dont see how 'realism' and 'dust2' can go in the same sentence. Unless perhaps theres a 'not' in there somewhere.

I am making a MOD called operation desert storm were I used that triangle idea to make awsome landscapes. It looks so cool! when I'm done you can look at it and see if you get the basic Idea. There aren't any real dunes yet, but sandy hills and boundry steep ones that you can't get up (unless you have a lot of patence, so I put an invisable wall at the top to stop them, hehehehe! (evil designers laugh))

Mmh, turn on wireframe view in your console. I know from experience this triangle method can cause quite a lot of face splitting, giving a lot of unnecessary polygons.

Also, movement on such terrain can be quite strange, sometimes the player is temporary blocked by a small edge. Check for good movement, it can be quite frustrating IMO.

Just some things I found while playing around with this method... :)

i used the triagele method in the mod im makeing. It does cause the player to stop when you walk over bulges that have fine edges. and anyone who would like to help with the mod just tell me. i don't really need any help though but if you think you can help then feel free to offer your sevices.
