I don't, back when I got Max I had very little hard drive space, so I had to choose between the two. Max won, because Rimrook had those tutorials.
I can't get it now though, my uni has put restrictions on the network that make 'obtaining' it damn near impossible.

It does look shit, though. As 2muchvideogames pointed out - this extremely basic room is absolutely on the line of Goldsource's limits. It's not even 25% complete and already I'm starting to see VIS errors.
I mean I haven't even started detailing yet. This is just one stage up from blocking out the layout.

I wasn't just bashing the engine. I was lamenting about the fact that I'm finding it extremely difficult to move back to such a limiting platform upon which to make levels.

Made them.
I'd be happy to send you the .wad after I check with Urby that it's ok to. (I made them for his mod.)

Edit:
Actually, ask me again in a week or so. There's no point in sending the .wad until it's a complete set, and I have plenty more to make for this location.

Also, hlife_hotdog's image just loaded for me. (Imageshack has funny turns of not loading for me sometimes) and that is some awesome looking destructification, but I agree with previous comments that the lighting is too patchy.

Yes but you have to realize that you're using a 11 year old engine, it will be a lot more limiting then a 5-6 year old engine, especially since they didn't quite understand that limiting your engine makes no sense because hardware is so scalable.

See how those train tracks are completely black? It's probably because their lighting origin is under the tunnel. You can use an info_target, or actually any other entity and define it as the model's lighting origin so that you can decide where it takes its light information from. Of course, then it won't be shadowed under the tunnel. Your best bet is using a shorter track model several times rather than those big long ones.

Oh yeah. Forgot about that. Those are the shortest tracks in the HL2 GCFs, so I guess I have to fix that with info_lighting origin. I'll probably use the track behind it.

Another thing: most rail tracks rest on broken up rock rather than just grass. I believe one of the HL2 textures has a blend texture made up of gravel and grass that you could use.

I know, and the brush under the displacement is a gravel texture, but it's an disused, overgrown track.

That's a very good map there Ninja, I felt like I was creeping around an old city at night. And it reminded me of the Thief games, the way it almost but not quite fits in to several different time periods. And the lighting was very good.

True. I can't run or afford Crysis. Even if I had it, I couldn't make anything for it. People love easy and fun editors. My next one will likely be the Spark editor for NS2.

I've tinkered with the Serious Sam editors before. I imagine you could make some awesome stuff with it, but it just lacks the feel of Half-Life.

The opposite goes for the Neverwinter Nights editor. I DID want to be able to use that well, but I couldn't figure it all out.

I got that with Unity a little bit. Amazing to work with, lack of certain stuffs because it was the free version was a turn off. Sketch up is piss easy, same issue of lacking stuff, Unreal Editor is really good but its like Unity pretty much, just import level geometry and map elements from a modelling program. Source being so model and prop heavy is becoming a nuisance since I still can't get a model compiled for source, even then would it look as standardly good as the rest of the assets.

So yeah, its no wonder people still use goldsource. Only thing goldsource really needs is a limit break on texture resolution, model resolution, and a little bit better lighting module. It'd look quite good.

I dont think any other engine has allowed me to create new monsters, weapons, etc. I mapped for starcraft, warcraft, and some unexciting 2D games and still this engine gives more control than ever.

Google "Raven City Engine" it's a heavily modified GoldSrc engine. New renderers (better than Source's), Rain, Increased Limits, etc.

I googled it. Found a wonderfully long changelist (addition list?) and nothing else. No visual examples of what it can do at all.
I'm interested in seeing these renderers which are "better than Source's."

I recognize the name, highlander makes it, unfortunately the moddb page has been taken down and those honestly contained the only good screenshots of the mod.
