Ah, I found out about that patch a good 6 hours into the game. Luckily I'm not running into any game-breaking bugs, and all the positives about the game are eclipsing any bugs that do pop up. I hate Activision even more so now for forcing this game out the door way too early.
I mainly liked MGS2 because it was the most like MGS1. I prefer my radar and basic sneaking to the jungle shenanigans or the magic octocamo in MGS4.
I really liked all of the Big Shell moments in MGS2, but the moment you get to Arsenal and the story turns all batshit... it lost me.

The plot for the last hour or so of MGS2 was written with ketchup and a spatula.

Other than that, awesome game.

I got myself a copy of Just Cause 2 on Sunday, played a bit and it seems fun. Gonna be getting the Old World Blues DLC for Fallout: New Vegas when I get home tonight. Still haven't finished the other 2 DLCs I got, not to mention the main story. Racked up 200+ hours of gameplay in FNV and still not finished. Take heed Call of Duty developers. THAT is value for money.

Modern Warfare 3 looks set to have a decent 30 minute campaign. :rly:

Except Call of Duty players get their several hundred hours (and then some) in the multiplayer portion of the game. Just because you don't like a particular game (or series) doesn't mean that it's not value for money.

Can't say I'm all too fussed about MW3 either, but you can't be that ignorant when offering criticism. And let's not even get into the numerous singleplayer-only, 8-12 hour games that are far better than 200 hours of either CoD or Fallout...

Pengy, if it was all about the multiplayer, then explain CoD5, MW2 and Blops, which have done precisely fuck all when it comes to expanding upon the tried and tested CoD multiplayer formula.
They're disastrously rushed cash-ins made by a massive studio and there's an extreme lack of care and love.
CoD4 is worth having because it was a pretty fun and exciting single-player experience (albeit still too short), but every CoD game since has just been the exact same thing with new skins. To then charge upwards of £40 for it, and £10 for the DLC is completely criminal. Costs even more if you're a console gamer. Value for money? You must be taking the piss.

And the point I believe Urby was making was that Fallout 3 & NV have 100+ hours of content, not 100+ hours of repetition.
There's not a single corner of Fallout 3 that doesn't feel like a developer had a giggle while designing.
In contrast, MW2 felt like it was put together following IKEA instructions. Connect bracket A to bolt B.

Oh, and add to those 100+ hours of content the hundreds of hours of community-made content because Fallout is very mod-friendly.
Try modding a recent CoD game.

As I said, everyone's gaming tastes are different. To me, 200 hours of Fallout or CoD sounds like a whole lot of boring, repetitive gameplay. To others, they love playing CoD and/or Fallout. People who buy the next big CoD game are getting it because they liked the last one, and think that it is worth their money.

Again, stop being so ignorant. Tastes differ, and we're in the minority of people who don't like CoD/Halo/Killzone/generic FPS #593. Just because you like different games doesn't mean you can discount the opinions of millions of others.

Weeell... now you're getting the realm of what counts as actual content, and this is a dicey area to say the least. I'm not denying the fact that Fallout (or similar games) can give you more unique playtime than CoD SP or similar action titles. However, what kind of content are we talking about? Most free-roaming RPGs' playtime is substantiated by lots of travel time and lots of "grind", as it were (either in the form of "Kill X number of Y" or just plain needing to level up). In other words, lots of padding.
Whereas games like CoD or the Half-Life games are much more streamlined: no scene is like the previous. Sure, the combat may be similar throughout the game, but you're (almost) never stuck in the same place doing exactly the same thing for any length of time.

I agree with Archie 100% on all the newer CoDs. MW1 was great, Single player that is, but MW2 and the newer ones have just ruined it, put in a new generic story with new textures ans called it a game. More like an Over-Priced Mod.

And on Fallout: 3+NV Yeah, they had their problems, but they were enjoyable, and Yes, VERY mod friendly. Almost everywhere you went was open world, and randomly scripted events, and then The wacky wasteland perk made it even better. I'm surrently kicking myself in the ass for buying Audiosurf then the new Old World Blues DLC. Bethesda Softworks is a MUCH better Developer then Infinity Ward and Treyarch, Bethesda makes beautiful open world environments, and then LETS YOU CREATE YOUR OWN ENHANCEMENTS.

And the player bases of each game differ as well. When a person starts playing CoD, or asks a question about the game, they get "FAG STFU GET MORE KILL STREAKS IM 5TH PRESTIGE WAT R LVL 5?". When someone goes on the Game forms for Oblivion, when asking how to mod, instead of getting "LOL GOOGLE IT U FAG GTFO", they are greeted with Very Nice people, sometimes Employees THEMSELVES, pointing them in the right direction. I personally found Bethesda G.E.C.K tutorials VERY helpful. I made a machine gun that fired Shotgun Shells. and a Nice clean Vault with is entrance in the back of a truck.

Should probably clean this up to be neater, but to lazy

I think you have indeed made a mistake there. I have been pissing my pants laughing at the dialogue in this. There's 30 solid minutes of utterly hilarious (yet optional) conversation with this think tank before you even begin playing the DLC properly. It's great, and I heartily recommend you explore the full conversation-tree before moving on.

Take it elsewhere, people. Thread is about games, not bad grammar.

I've been replaying the Mass Effect games on the PC, Infamous 2 on the PS3, and Donkey Kong Country (GBA version) on the DS. I'm really shit at old-school side-scrollers, so after I die a million times I give up and play some nice hand-holding modern games :)

Personally I loved the Shadow Brokers Lair and Stolen Memory(?)

The latest one, Arrival, was OK. Some things could have been better, the part when you have to fight the 'Relic'(or whatever it was called) was a Huge cluster fuck, I could never find cover both of times I played it >_<.

Then again multiplayer GTA4 is always a blast.

Also I just say pengy say
Except Call of Duty players get their several hundred hours
and I can back that up, I've got a total of 542 hours spend in multiplayer CoD on the PC version alone, and I believe another 150 or so on the console versions combined.

And yeah I'm bored of it, lol

Like many others it seems, I recently bought Fallout 3 and New Vegas after playing about an hour of a... pirated copy of New Vegas. Seriously, this is the first torrent of a game I've downloaded and I did it solely because neither games have demos which brings up another topic. More games should have demos. Anyway I haven't played New Vegas since that torrent because I wanted to play 3 first as it came before New Vegas and people have told me it was better. I love the games and would definitely recommend them.

EDIT: I see a lot of talk about good modding for them, any recommendations?

Mirror's Edge. Haven't finished it yet, but I'm sure of one thing - it's a revolutionary game and probably first of it's kind. It's style has limitless possibilities, sadly, few of them were realised. However, this game is more of a experimentation and introduction to such style. I expect a lot from Mirror's Edge 2.
Posted 13 years ago2011-09-03 18:39:57 UTC Post #298622
Finished it today. It's the most underrated game ever. Yes, there are some problems with it. It's pretty short. The combat system is beautiful yet terrible and frustrating sometimes. Anyway, I rarely don't get bored while playing a game or watching a movie. But playing Mirror's was so interesting and unique every single moment. There wasn't even a thought of getting it finished unlike most of the games I played. I loved how realistic it was. Both in gameplay style and graphics. The level design was really beautiful and atmospheric. A masterpiece.
Posted 13 years ago2011-09-03 21:12:25 UTC Post #298625
I agree with most of what you said. Stylistically, in a time where gritty brown and grey were the only options, they boldly said "fuck off, we're going to be visually interesting" and they succeeded wonderfully... To the extent that everything which uses solid colours since its release is compared to it.

As for the gameplay, I gotta admit that the novelty of the parkour wore off pretty quickly. By the later levels it felt like the last quarter of Bioshock in terms of mindlessly getting from A to B without much purpose or drive.

I think it was a good game, but the combat is so awkwardly worked into it that it ruins the experience somewhat.

Mirror's Edge 2 was axed by EA in February, but recent reports from E3 suggest that it has been revived using the same engine as BF3. Should be interesting seeing what the devs do with such scale.

So, I'm playing the new Deus Ex - but I think I might be doing it wrong, I somehow ended up [super-mild spoiler follow here] wiping out the entire police station. [spoiler ends here] I'm gonna start over.

As for Mirror'S Edge, it's probably the best game to come out of Scandinavia, followed by Hitman (Codename 47 and Bloody Money) and Battlefield 2.

In other news, I've just finished Batman: Arkham Asylum (finally!). Man is that a good game.

I'm also playing Gears of War 3 - it's good, stupid fun. I've also got the Ico & Shadow of the Colossus HD collection sitting on my desk, I'll start playing Ico in the next few days as well :)

On the DS, I've been playing through the Final Fantasy series (1 to 6). I'm almost finished FF3 (the DS remake version) - aside from it being pretty difficult at times, it's my favourite one out of the three I've played so far.
