So basically this is a weird problem I've encountered and believe it has something to do with windows 7 openGL support.

Versions of Hammer 3.5 and below one day started crashing on splash screen and I haven't been able to open them since, this happened the same day Counter-Strike 1.6 started crashing very frequently on game entry.

I have uninstalled all versions of hammer multiple times which hasn't helped at all either.

So basically just praying that someone has had a similar experience and knows a fix because I don't really want to have to reformat.

Did you upgrade your graphics drivers (any drivers at all)? What GPU are you running ? Does it just crash or do you get an error ? Does CS work on D3D (any non gl game)?

I upgraded the graphics drivers after I encountered the problem. CS works in D3D and my GPU is a Geforce GTX 570.

Also it just crashes after a few seconds of splash screen, I can't read the windows error report jargon either.

I guess it could be worth a shot.

Set the program compatibility mode to Windows XP.
Also clear every registry component Hammer has created.

Strange. I'm running the same OS and the same Gfx card and I've never had any issues with Hammer...

Run "Control Panel>System and Security>Administrative Tools>Windows Memory Diagnostic". See if it finds any errors.

Same as Urby, same hardware and OS, and I don't have any issues with either engine's version of Hammer. I'm not running 3.5 under any compatibility mode, but it is running as administrator.

I fixed it by moving hammer install files from my documents on my secondary HDD to my SSD program files, which I use for important programs and the OS. Probably didn't set my SSD up optimally.

Thanks for the heads up on the GPU Penguinboy and Urby, downgrading drivers was last resort.
