Looks great, BUT (and this is an Architect's but):
The structural beams are rather close together, but let's assume they are bearing a huge load: about 3 modules are missing where the gates are, and there doesn't seem to be an alternative structure to compensate for this;
The shape of said beams is a bit unlikely for reinforced concrete, but assuming the shape doesn't matter, punching holes through them for pipes and air ducts would be catastrophic and they wouldn't be able to support the huge load they're probably under. You don't do that with this type of structure. You could have hollow core beams that would allow this, but they'd need to be taller.
The light fixtures embedded in the columns look really neat, but they'd have the same effect on the columns as the pipes and air ducts through the beams.
The scientist's overcoat is not wrinkly enough.
I know, I'm nitpicky. I blame my career of choice :P

I'm pretty sure the Black Mesa areas featured in The Core had a higher budget than the lambda labs..... Less dirt =]

Woohoo! Thanks
it could use a little dirty here and there
For sure, it's not had a detail pass yet so misc trash and decals haven't yet been applied.

There are huge concrete pillars behind each gate visible from the other side.

You don't do that with this type of structure. You could have hollow core beams that would allow this, but they'd need to be taller.
The walls are plaster, and as such I think we can assume that there are stronger steel supports within the structure. This also accounts for the holes - very often seen in plaster.
The scientist's overcoat is not wrinkly enough.
I'll have you know that scientist is Urby and you will never find him without a freshly ironed labcoat - even in the event of a disaster.

I doubt it had a larger budget, it simply didn't need to spend it on anti-mass spectrometers and flux capacitors and polarity reversing warp nacelles. :crowbar:

Cheers for the comments all!

Alright, they're a bit hard to see from that angle. You win this one.
The walls are plaster, and as such I think we can assume that there are stronger steel supports within the structure. This also accounts for the holes - very often seen in plaster.
Under the assumption that it's only a steel structure behind plaster, the light fixtures might be acceptable but I insist that the pipes and air ducts should be in a different place. Imagine the top beam should continue undisturbed above them and they're probably held by a lower beam.
I'll have you know that scientist is Urby
I take back everything said about him.

Well straight away I can see a massive flaw in that the scientist doesn't have a pocket protector. Those pens could leak you know!

Although I did actually notice that the yellow and black stripes on the pillars are wonky. On the left they're like chevrons.

Last year The Core got 3rd place in the 2012 Mod of the Year awards (out of 20,574 mods) thanks to your voting. I hate to ask, but it's that time of year again. Can we do any better in 2013? If you've got a second, please vote - you don't even need to register!
