Me too! But that's a quite expensive game, so no. Can't. Maybe by the time it's marked $4.99 if you guys still play it.
Posted 10 years ago2014-11-08 01:03:42 UTC Post #322257
Hell yes, Ant! I've been dying to do a short co-op career. You can just pick it up for a few hours then do the next race in a few weeks, there's no big time constraint :] Do you have a wheel?

Stu, unfortunately given that it's a yearly franchise it's unlikely I'll ever still be playing a version when it's $4.99 :(

No wheel, unfortunately. I've been looking to pick one up for when Project Cars comes out.

Hopefully, co-op won't be too big a strain, latency wise.

You'll be trailing so slowly in my dust that I can't imagine latency will present much of a problem anyway...

Are you people (hey, whaddaya mean 'you people'?) Ricciardo fans? It's so great to see an Aussie winning races again. Webber just had the fire taken from his belly by sitting opposite that bell-end Vettel for years.

Currently playing:
  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS
  • Batman: Arkham Origins
  • Far Cry 4
  • Spintires
  • DayZ
  • Euro Truck Simulator 2
Unfortunately, it's a case of half an hour a couple of times a week, if that. If F1 2014 gets more discounted than it currently is, then I'll be diving into that too.

I played the new Smash Bros. for the first time tonight with my flatmate. Really enjoyed it! Tried about nine characters; all felt unique and tactile without being overwhelming in terms of move sets.

Hold off on F12014. It's great, but it's the last game on the current Ego engine (after like what, 10 great games??) F12015 is scheduled for March and it's already heavily in development on the new engine. I'm really excited.

Will hold!

I'm a Smash Bros. veteran: been playing since the original Nintendo 64 version, and while I'm certainly not a pro, Strider will no doubt confirm my prowess (or, at the very least, demonstrate his ineptitude).

I dislike fighting games for the most part, mostly because of general dullness and an overly complicated moveset. The great thing about Smash Bros. is that every character uses the exact same moveset, and the moveset itself is incredibly simple. It really does come down to what character feels right for you, because you can easily adapt to any character.

Smash 4 is great fun, unless I'm losing badly and repeatedly to a certain roommate and/or his Marth Amiibo.
Another roomate's Pikachu AI is adorably passive-aggressive, plopping along behind you until you attack him.

I don't know about Lands of Lore particularly, but it's inspired by several old dungeon crawlers like Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder and the two Ultima Underworld games.
Holy balls that's purdy... What kind of game is it? RPG?
Tile-based dungeon crawler. You control a group of 4 prisoners (two at the front for close-range, two at the back for ranged attacks) and move around the grid solving puzzles, mixing potions, shooting, fighting, doing the monster mamba and exploring. The level design is complex and chock-full of devious secrets.
Strider will no doubt confirm my prowess (or, at the very least, demonstrate his ineptitude).
Scoff!

I could not get into the original fallout games but I've read up on them a lot. I started with Fallout 3 and I fell in love with the FO Universe. I only hope that Fallout 4 gives players the level of freedom that the originals gave. Fallout 3 seems very dumbed down by comparison, as is sadly the case with most games these days... :(

That looks really cool, satchmo. Let us know if it's worth getting!

I've been playing Far Cry 4 today. It is without a doubt the most beautiful game I've ever played. Every single direction you face, you're presented with mouth-watering, unique and awe-inspiring vistas. The gunplay is unchanged from FC3 (which is great) and the characterization is at a level that only Valve have managed before now.
I am blown away so far.

I played a bit more of Talos Principles, and while I am impressed with the level design and graphics, the gameplay feels somehow "cold".

I would compare it more to Antichamber than Portal.

It keeps me engaged, but I wouldn't rank it in the same class as Portal.

Played Space Engineers a bit. Learned a lot, died once in a remarkable way.

I set my ship up for some mining but didn't find gold. So a bit of a distance away I saw some more asteroids and decided to "walk" via jetpack over to it. About half-way I collided with a tiny meteorite at 280 meters per second. What are the fucking odds of that? srsly.

I somehow ended up leaving it this long to play Black Mesa which I have decided to remedy. Previously I had only gotten about five or ten minutes past the resonance cascade, but as of a few minutes ago I've just launched the rocket at the end of On A Rail.
So far I must say Black Mesa is absolutely stunning. It's faithful to Half-Life, yet different enough that I can't just run through it knowing how to solve every puzzle that is presented. It's also a lot more effective than the original Half-Life in making the player feel helpless against the aliens and the military. It kind of puts it in perspective how bad the situation really is, when you can't just run through killing things left right and centre. I very rarely had to take cover in the original Half-Life, or think ahead to plan out how best to tackle a situation. Conversely, in Black Mesa I found that I had to do both a lot more often.
There was one particularly memorable moment in Power Up where I had very low health and I kept being killed by some soldiers as I went up an elevator. That was fixed by sending up some explosive barrels and a satchel charge to take out the ones nearest to the elevator shaft, then bringing the lift back down, building a covering wall out of barrels, then riding it up. In the original game I probably would have just quicksaved then tried again and again until I survived, which isn't as fun.

Probably the only problem I have with the game is the voice acting for the HECU soldiers. It's like every one of them played too much Metal Gear Solid before they were sent in and now they think they're all Solid Snake or something.

Just a heads up.
Toxikk, a fast paced FPS with UDK graphics recently went into open beta. Gameplay wise, it is similar to old-school UT, for which it got a lot of praise from veterans. If you see it around, i'd recommend keeping away from it - for now.
It costs 20$ and comes with only 2 maps atm; 1 of which is a vehicle map and... Oh boy, the rotation time delay on those vehicles...

If you had to buy just one, buy Dragonfall: Director's Cut. It's a standalone story so you won't need any knowledge of Returns, and it comes with a bunch of tweaks and fixes to the formula. Plus it's set in a gorgeous post-collapse, run-by-the-people Berlin that's just packed with cool touches.

Kachito: Been watching that, but it is a bit too early to jump in. There's also another in-development game called Reflex trying for the arena shooter market. Early days, but it has an in-engine co-op mapping system, and glorious old-school, high-paced movement.
