I'm working on a small test map for 1.6 to get my bearings in the GoldSrc engine and Hammer 3.5. I'm having an odd (minor) issue where my point entities simply refuse to snap to the grid. I can pull them on top of a grid point but as soon as I let go of left-click they bounce off the grid, despite having snap to grid on. Is there something I'm missing?

Which FGD are you using ?

The one that adds env_rain. It's called cs_expert-tom793c.fgd. I use it in addition to the default halflife-cs.fgd.

If you try to compile, does it cause a compile error ?
Posted 8 years ago2016-04-10 22:13:59 UTC Post #329792
No. Everything compiles normally. Took some time to work out how to set stuff up, but once I did I've compiled this little map many times with no errors.

Here's my latest compile log:

Just by curiosity, does this issue also appear with another editor like Sledge or Jackhammer ?
Posted 8 years ago2016-04-10 22:59:49 UTC Post #329796
It appears to work fine in Sledge using the same .fgd's. Perhaps it's Hammer 3.5 causing the issues? Maybe I should go back to 3.4 somehow. I downloaded 3.5 somewhere on the Internet.

Ctrl-B force-snaps objects to the grid.
however they don't snap to centers, they snap to vertices.
Lower your grid setting and see if that helps at all

It doesn't. Even at the 1-grid it bounces out.

Alright, actually Ctrl-B does the trick. Pressing Ctrl-B every time I change the position of a point entity is going to get tiring though. There must be a fix.

Hmm... That is quite annoying.
Have you tried restarting hammer?
Does it do the same thing if you load a new map?

Yes, I've had this issue since I set up the GoldSrc tools a few months ago I believe. It does the same thing in a new map.

have you tried the sledge editor? Developed in-house by Penguinboy. I use it daily and highly recommend it. Check it out

I think the only possibility is that VHE 3.5 is causing it. I gather it was a beta version or something? The HL SDK comes with 3.4, I had to manually download 3.5 from the Internet.

Worth a try, but as far as I know 3.5 just added support for models in the 3D view. There are a few unofficial hacks of 3.5 out there that do various things, but I wouldn't think that they'd cause something like this.

I didn't even know GoldSrc had models. Well I guess I'll keep looking around.

Just downloaded VHE 3.5.3 by Yo Den on Gamebanana. No change in the problem.

Could it be your graphics card / drivers?

Not sure how that could cause an issue, but I have a GTX 970 with the latest nVidia drivers.
