What, there used to be bots on the server? Bad idea. HLDM NAO is stupid because you can't really expect anyone to be reading the shoutbox at the same time as you post the message. That's why I think it's better to put a message like "HLDM in XX minutes from now". At least I got some players by that method. But probably when the bots were in, players got tricked into the server more easily because of the higher player count and most likely quit immediately after noticing the bots.So I don't think they really would improve anything anyways.

Well hold on, we had max players playing Payload the other night, and even then with TP_Beerfort! We gotta start somewhere, and for now we can only afford a small server, so be it.

I think account activity is low because there are'nt bots any more. I always try to join the server to wait for others to join but I just never have the erge when there are'nt any bots to shoot at while im waiting. It would help even if there was just one bot until two real people joined.

Nefarious and I worked out a very nice template for a control point map that actually works and resets.

Expect to see some control point maps soon-ish.

Think warpath from Team Fortress Classic. There's essentially 5 control points, any can be controlled by either team, until all 5 are controlled by only one, at that point the team scores and the round is reset (albeit a bit rudely through killing everyone.) But reset nonetheless ;)

Through trial and error with the payload map, killing everyone is the safest and perhaps the only way to reset everyone.

UPDATE! See "EDIT2" below.

Going to make some modifications to the template and get it really nice and then I'll likely release it. Seems like a while until either Nefarious or I get around to mapping for it, and Daubster had some great input as well.

All right, fine, here's the deal. I'll add 2 bots to keep connections coming in.

These bots will either have to be connected 24/7 (unless kicked manually) or they will have to join/leave at random intervals to simulate real players. Those are the only two options Parabot gives. I can't have bots leave as players join, you will have to use amx_votekick to get them out of the game. Everyone can use amx_votekick, so fucking use it if an admin isn't there to clear the server up.

There's no way to get rid of the bots, one second after you've kicked a bot, a new one is created to replace the one you kicked.

I think that's available when only one player joins, so it must be at least one bot on the server.

It doesn't matter how many real players are on the server, there's no way to get rid of the two bots.

Does the bots count on that connections tally?

EDIT: heh... was looking at the player stats for "clan" [TWHL] and the weapon of choice is the crossbow. We're bastards!

It's all those mario_etc levels. The only useful weapon to use in those outdoor areas is the crossbow.

I was afraid of that.

Ok, well the bots are back to joining/leaving randomly. There's a max of 2 and a min of 0 with the average time per bot set to 60 minutes. You can kick them now without them immediately rejoining.

The bots appear to crash every single custom map and the server oh-so-lovingly switches back to crossfire... (FUCKING CROSSFIRE FFS!)

It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that even when they do work, they do nothing but completely annoy the FUCKING TITS OFF OF EVERY PLAYER!

We had a full server this evening and within 10 minutes of a map change it was empty. Hopefully this joint rant will make things clear.

Is it just me or did like seven people just say the same thing? Its up to you my fellow twh eliens to create maps that make the server thus playworthy! Fetch thow chizels and stones and hack at it! In the mean time ill be planning out my new lost_technology. If there were a few more maps like hotdog's comp27 entry in the server, it would be a fun server to play in.

It's a fair point; You make a server for a mapping community, then add something which crashes the server every time a custom map is used.

They've always been fine for me, though their dead body always freezes in some odd pose. Well looks like the only way to ever play against anyone in the server from now on is to schedule frag fests or let eachother know. We should start scheduling some events!

Wouldn't it always be like that? Bots become boring after a little while anyway. TWHL should endorse more group activities. And buy me a HL :P
