Ok...

So much complaining about the restrictions, yet quite a few guys wanted this.

Anyway, I really don't see what is so limiting about not using custom sounds. All Source and Goldsource games have a decent array of sounds available, not to mention you can play around with in-game entity settings to adjust pitch and add effects to them, so really. Get creative guys...

I'll always believe what the creator of Audiosurf said:

Having complete freedom would have killed his project, even though he could have had it, he chose not to, he put limits on himself

Also, from Deus Ex:

There is no difference between complete freedom and complete anarchy.

LOL, everyone but me voted for this competition to be map from texture pack, yet I'm the only one NOT complaining.

I'm not complaining.

It's not that complicated. This compo is a lot like some of the original compos.

Think I got an idea.
Posted 7 years ago2011-09-30 12:39:37 UTC Post #299619
I never voted, I saw the thread, and thought the small map was interesting, I knew the Texture pack would be restricting, just never really said anything because the majority voted for texture pack and would've flamed me to high hell.

I saw the majority of people here get so hyped about this map from texture pack thing that I didn't even bother voting since I knew what was going to win :)

I've been ignoring the wood textures. Too difficult to integrate, although maybe I'll make a brushwork tree

Posted 7 years ago2011-10-01 13:16:46 UTC Post #299667
Why did I ever think ninja defuse used to make sense?

Strider posted a link to the WAD that corrected the grate texture.

It's bugging me to death that I don't have time for this. Maybe I can get something together next week during drawings at school.

Now, now.

Can somebody else test those textures for me and make sure I didn't screw them up a second time?

Oh shit my bad Ninja, when I read that I thought you were saying you expected the wad fix to work without setting render settings, and you fixed it by setting the render mode to solid and 255.

Since Moaby showed us his beast, I'll have to show mine too! ...wait let me rephrase that. Since Moaby showed us his, I'll show mine as well. (wait that didn't sound right either).

Well anyway, here is mine (dammit!):

Hahaha I do realise it is wood, but I removed the ledge at the top of the texture, transforming it into a cliff :)

It's creativeness! Gimme marks :D

i think i am going to add a little gameplay ofcourse it is going to be useless in the competition but i am not going to leave my map without a spirit

but still i have been focusing on architecture and textures

ahh going to post a screenshoot:

That's looking very original Ninja!

But, I think you must have gameplay. One of the rules, I think.

Dont think too much of that rule, I would consider simply walking around the map as "gameplay" for the purposes of this compo, even for a singleplayer map.

THATS A WOOD TEXTURE?!
EDIT: Ninja that's awesome! But regarding those leaves, they look like they have a different texture on them, maybe I just don't recognize it though.
EDIT 2: Nvm lol, they're models aren't they? I didn't notice at first. Looking friggin awesome!

Posted 7 years ago2011-10-05 00:08:36 UTC Post #299771
So not wood. ;]

& Just for clarification, all competitions so far have been as many BSP files as you want to include, yes?
Posted 7 years ago2011-10-05 01:33:26 UTC Post #299772
No limit to the amount of maps.

I believe that texture actually is wood, but it's vague enough to be used as a stone or cliff wall, too.

Is it (or should it be) against the rules to edit the light data of a BSP (or to write a custom HLRAD)? I believe it can be edited to drastically change all colours of a surface, essentially painting over the texture with a new image.

Yeah, he is saying the decals and sprites that puff out when shooting the array of materials available in source are an array of fruity colors (Not just green for me). This happened to me before when compiling HL2 06 maps with a later compiler. For some reason, it only happens in certain areas, maybe light affects it? I am not sure, but my dirt puffs red, yellow, green, and blue.
Posted 7 years ago2011-10-05 20:35:49 UTC Post #299787
Can we make two (unedited) versions of the same texture so each one can use different light values for texlights?
