Well, there isn't any smoke or ash filling the air anymore, thankfully. The fire is still going, but it's moved away from where we are, and is %90 contained... so I think everybody's forgotten about it.

Strider, that's not the reason we're moving at all... lol. It's more about some family issues, inability to afford the house we're living in now, and being in a kinda sucky location (we have to drive a while to get to stores, businesses, etc.) It had been planned long before the fire happened. Also, I'm pretty sure the fires were nowhere near as close to our house as I first thought them to be, and our lives were certainly never in danger. It looked pretty bad at the time, but I think all that was destroyed were a couple trailers way up in the mountains.

I really think my house will be alright now. Last night was really bad because of a sudden wind shift, but it changed again. We're going to try to go over there again today to get some more stuff, if they'll let us onto our street. Only a couple buildings have burned so far, and those have been way up in the mountains. I think the fire department's doing a pretty good job of keeping it away from residential areas.
Mushulous: Guess the developers at Rockstar were doing their jobs pretty good!

Not sure how to put this, but I think you might find it a bit hard to argue that WALL-E doesn't have a large amount of social commentary after seeing it. Hell, you could watch the trailers and get that same impression.

"freshed thats a bit too much... and im more like cancer."
Cancer isn't transmittable. And you don't seem to be dying, either (unfortunately.) No, you're actually more like herpes: Everywhere, and really annoying, but ultimately not fatal and its existence has no real effect on anything.
But regarding your journal post... Well, all I can say is, I'm not sure anybody on here cares as much about this Alien stuff as you do. I have to admit, the original Alien, and Predator especially were quite good, but all the others I've seen have been lame and uninspired. It's just turned into another typical mass-produced Hollywood action series, and it's drawn on way too long. I can't even figure out how the film studios justify its existence, unless it's raking in more money than I thought. I really don't understand how anybody could be a fan of it, yet I'm sure there's whole forums dedicated to this stuff (hint hint.)
Also, I'm not really sure if it looks good or not. The graphics look decent, but all I've got to go on are a couple of screens that remind me of Quake 4 and the knowledge that most of these games received pretty mediocre reviews.

If you ever bought a PS2, you'd need to chip it if you wanted burned discs to work with it. It'd be way cheaper and easier to buy the real thing for ten or fifteen bucks.

The other problem is, since there's no auto save feature, you have to go all the way through the menu and manually save it. When you die, it prompts you to either load a game, or load from your last save. No continue or anything. I was just playing now, and when I died after getting chopped up by the overhead vent fan in Office complex, I was sent back to the end of Unforeseen Consequences where I had last saved. It's probably why they have codes that let you load the game up at the beginning of a chapter. Unfortunately, you can't save constantly, or your save file will get so big the game will start to slow down.

Hmm... Actually, it would appear that it has been redesigned a little, though I don't know how extensively. I skipped to Office Complex, and they modified the map very slightly so that you have to go down a corridor in front of you to get to the lounge area that has the power switch in it. I assume they did this for no other reason than to save r_speeds, since they did get pretty high right there.
Penguinboy: No, it's not chipped or anything, since most Dreamcasts will play burned CDs. That's why SEGA had such a big problem with pirating. And also why there's still homebrew games being made for it.

Well, he certainly does look old, but that's the point. He isn't really jumping around a whole lot either, so it doesn't make that much of a difference.

I don't think you really have a reputation, so I think I'd have just left it there as a reminder of how much you've improved once you... you know... improve. Somewhat.

I'm curious, did you actually make this yourself, or is it somebody elses you're just uploading? Because you seem to have reviewed, complemented. and recommended your own map here.

Hey-hey! You did all the right things for a first map! You admitted to making various small mistakes in the good sized description, and your English is ACTUALLY COMPREHENDABLE!
I'm going to check this out later if I get the time. Looks good for a first map.

Why not just link to the download page? It doesn't have to be a direct download link, you know. And I gotta say, it's pretty friggin' annoying downloading a text file just to get a link.
However, you should just use oxihosting instead of FileFront. They'll never delete your files.

I'll download again in a bit. I noticed a couple odd things though, in particular that poorly made boat-like thing floating on the outside of the island, that really detracted from the atmosphere.

Holy fucking missing textures, Batman! There's so many purple checkered surfaces my eyes are hurting! Might I recommend a wadinclude as opposed to including the WAD?

Ignore the people on this site = worst suggestion ever. I don't know why on earth you would think that we like boring maps here, but you're just plain wrong.
Notice though how we weren't actually commenting on the map, we were commenting on how it's unfairly rated. Muzz or somebody needs to get in here and delete all the ratings and comments.

You know, He's right, that's another complaint I have. It's just kind of dull. I'd suggest you spice up the lighting (flickering torch lights, perhaps) and give it some more interactive or "alive" things. The waterfall was a start, anyway.

Nice little map here. No really obvious flaws in its design, but there are some improvements that could have been made.
One thing is the curved wall... it ends far too quickly in my opinion. Just cuts off right there at the edge of the island. You did one end nice, but the other was just a 90 degree corner. It was also kind of disappointing that you couldn't have handled the falling a little better. You just fall about ten feet, hit an invisible wall and splat, you're dead. Pretty unrealistic. The ambient noise was pretty lacking, too. You could have put a generic kind of surreal sound in there, just to give it a bit more atmosphere.
Otherwise though, it fared pretty well. You didn't have much detail other than the nicely made benches, but that's understandable considering the w_polys got to above 1300 in places (maybe some well placed models could have helped here?) generally nice architecture, though. I liked how you put the wood beams on the ceiling inside, and the island itself was well shaped, with plenty of curves. Never a boring or redundant area anywhere, and it's certainly very easy to find your way around.
I felt that river could have been used a bit more, however. Maybe if it was placed better, it could have run underneath the building. That would have been cool, although you were lacking the space to put it in.
Overall, quite good, but could have possibly stood for some improvement and testing before it was released.

Hell, I'm too lazy for a review, I'm just gonna rate this thing.
Let me just say though, it had some of the sloppiest brushwork techniques I've ever seen in a map of this caliber, and I can only hope you aren't still building things the same.
Mushulous: Guess the developers at Rockstar were doing their jobs pretty good!
And what would that reason be? Because honestly I haven't figured it out yet. :S

There's a reason it's called a beta.

It looks god at a distance, but up close it can look rather awkward with very squarish cliffs. The textures helped though.

I'll review this at some point. It indeed looks good, especially considering who it came from.
