I did a mathematics-informatics high-school, it was certainly over-the-top theoretical compared to what you're presenting here. This actually looks a lot of fun, I would've had a blast at your age! I then got my B.Eng in Electrical, Telecommunications and Theory of Information. No, those are not 3 degrees, it's just the complete name. The "Theory of Information" part was especially hard, it's a lot of statistics and college-level math. Search for Claude Shannon - it's because of him we're able today to transmit information so flawlessly.
I then promptly forgot a lot of shit that I studied and instead became a software engineer (or so they call it, I'm not sure I'm there yet  )... and I might pivot again in the future. Most of what I apply at my job is stuff I learned on my own. I think less that 10% of what I learned in the faculty is useful to me, but I can't complain - it certainly opens your horizons and gives you inspiration - if you forget, at least you have some hints in this domain.
I'm still trying to figure out what masters to pursue in the future.

My point is - life's complicated. Learn, read, play and experiment as much as you can while you're young - it gives you lots of doors you can choose from. It seems that you're fortunate enough to be in a good position to do that, so go on. Just do it ✓

Actually yes let's do it! I must get something done for once so okay. A machinima in Half-Life 1 will come out soon!

But first we have to work on it. I'll be writing a script and post it on the forum so if anyone can help then they can.

You never have time for anything, man.
Seriously, when will we do something? I'm up for it, but you always cancel it. Why?
Commented 5 years ago2019-01-30 19:07:12 UTC in journal: Minor Sadness (Just saying) Comment #101797
Yeah it would never work. Besides, I have no time for it.

I'd participate. But, let's arrange it in a convenient way because I can't check the forum posts and PMs every 5 minutes. :/

I have been thinking about making a short machinima in HL1. So I will decide to do it. Will someone join?

(It's in the original game if you where wondering)

I think performance issues are caused not by framerate but by the flickering lights which HL has problems rendering correctly. Also you forgot skybox. Beautiful map other than that.

The beam puzzle was really awesome. Ambience was great too. Although for me the framerate was terrible at some parts most likely because of flickering lights. I played on linux HL, not sure if all versions of HL act the same. Also found some shortcuts. But it was very much fun.

It's 16:27 here, and I'll be available from 17:00 to 21:00. We could chat on Steam, so that we don't have to do this slowly via the forums.

I don't use Discord unfortunately. I don't want to be a member of things that I am possibly going to ignore in the end.

But I can announce in THIS journal the current status of the server. For now it's open.

Scary map for reasons that will be come clear as you play. Very tough difficulty when I played on hard. The lazers glitched out but I managed to defeat the map after several dumb deaths.

played this in stream. It's kinda linear and design is pretty basic, but thats true of 1998 half life mods so it was a nice walk in the park. I recognized the chapter each map was trying to emulate too. Pretty good map pack.

I'd join the server, but it's bedtime here. :/
Join the TWHL Discord and maybe we can arrange something soon enough.

Edit:
The mod is HappyFaces from the vault, right?

Just.. Let me see once and for all if my little mod works.

Go in and get in the lone server. Say if you are onto it.

Are you sure ADHD is not holding you back?

That's what I specialize in, and if you have difficulty sustaining attention and completing tasks, you may have ADHD.

Do it instead. Nolens volens, willy-nilly, make yourself do it, really. Don't just try. And whatever you decide to do, good luck. :)

Also, keep doing one project, and no matter how bad it may come out, just finish it. Getting stuff done is one of the best life skills you can have, and develop. Make a draft with placeholders there and there. Then improve it later, maybe. Start out with a plan, too. The big picture. Write down exactly what you'll do, and do that, no more, no less.

I've hosted the PS2 Menu Theme on the TWHL's Discord server.

Download it and place it in the Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life\valve\media folder to have your fancy HL PS2 menu music on PC.
Commented 5 years ago2019-01-17 13:18:30 UTC in journal: Yay Comment #101769
Yes the only HL1 with a menu theme was great thanks to the theme. But I also meant the graphics. I see those retro looking environments more atmospheric then any reality looking ones.

And the gameplay weren't bad either cause games where born from joy-sticks and learning how to control something by trial and error is one of the true joys of gaming. Mouse controls are too easy.

WON is the only way to play HL!
Commented 5 years ago2019-01-17 09:25:48 UTC in journal: Yay Comment #101767
It definitely has more atmospheric menu music compared to WON and Steam's... err nothing.

I had HL for PS2 (and finished it), it was actually good but very laggy in some spots. The cool part was Decay.

Well, this probably could have gone in the shoutbox.
I've never seen HL's PS2 version.

Lol, I play Half-Life on a PS/2 keyboard. :P

But yeah, games tend to feel a bit better on the PS2 than they do on the PC, like GTA: San Andreas.
