Some interesting replies. As with the others I too played female in KoToR as it changed many aspects like who allies with you and so on.

I agree, World Crafter, about Valve and their skills with personalities. Remember they are a company who don't use publishers so it allows them time to experiment and as Gabe said it works out, other companies should try it.

Indeed. I haven't touched upon the texture stuff yet, but it's very comforting to know that it's there.

Anything that helps you code your secret project (?) is win to me. That article is actually kind of interesting, when I bypass some of the technobabble. I'm sure there's some things in there that will come in handy.

In a nutshell, most women in games get the shaft anyway because the market caters exclusively to a masculine mind. Most gamers are guys, so its naturally easier to relate to a male character, especially when said character exhibits traits that most of us dudes would also like to have.

That's one of the reasons I respected Valve so much post HL2. They emphasize common, human personalities instead of gender-specific personalities. In doing so, characters inherently have more depth. And for some reason, other developers still don't understand this concept :|
Unless that's really the core of the character's personality(EG: Watchmen's "Comedian"), putting the sheer amount of emphasis on gender that most games do is just piss annoying. Its just dull.

Having said that, I prefer gender-neutral women as characters to masculine dudes if given the option. I want to play as a person, not a man or woman, if that makes sense. And given the state of the market, playing as a female seems to give way to more depth in itself because its so different.

Given that, if presented with a choice, and if the female isn't sexed up (or if I can create my own character like Oblivion, I always run with the woman. Eye candy is always nice, but if I'm going to be interacting with this person for days to months, the two-dimensional aspect gets old really fast.

I don't care either way i play. Interesting that potatis mentioned that star wars game, as that same game was the first time I played as a female, because i read somewhere that it was canon in the storyline for the main character to be female.

Although, in Star wars galaxies (i curse myself for ever playing that game) There was just as much (and sometimes it seemed more) female avatars as there were male. And almost every single one of the female avatar players claimed to be female in real life. I'm not too ignorant to believe that there's not female gamers, but I know they are indeed rare. So in that game, i avoided all the female characters, plus, they all acted like sluts anyway. Horrible community in that game. :/

Plus, how come every one of those female character players refuse to use ventrilo, or teamspeak? Hmmm..... :/

Apparently i found the light, and eventually told "Sony Online Entertainment" to shove it, and promptly uninstalled the game from my system.

It's fine with me I guess, I have played as a female in Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, but that's all.

just around here. i mean, i SWEAR they come into a car lot, pass up ALL the sports cars, and ask you how much the shitty 1995 pick up truck in the corner costs.

Hey, I own a pickup truck... on jack stands... in my garage... with the front end and engine all torn apart. And I'm not wearing my personalized undies ATM. :'(

Project cars FTW.

From what they told me, it was the bottom end.
Apparently there was an oil leak and it dripped into the antifreeze.
And as far as the guessing what was wrong, we started it up and felt the supercharger giving off the majority of the rattle. Besides the supercharger was only 200 for a good used one.

But yeah, we're going to run it around a little while, hopefully it should last me a few good years.

And I know what you mean, the majority of kids at my school drive one of a few things. A Grand AM, a Mustang, a Camaro, an Eclipse, or a pickup truck... I don't understand the huge obsession with pick-up trucks around here. I question if most these kids have their name on their underwear too. @.@

Commented 16 years ago2008-09-05 22:36:43 UTC in journal: #5329 Comment #52143
Indeed. The beeps are the only way your motherboard has of communicating with you when there's a problem. (More modern motherboards attempt to speak, like the time I came home to find mine repeating endlessly, "System halted, CPU hot" in a voice like Yoda with a bad head cold.) Look up the number/type of beeps, and it will tell you whether the problem is with your RAM, your video card, or whatever...

My guess is RAM -- but it really could be anything.

You heard engine knocking and you seriously thought it was your supercharger? :S That's gotta suck buying a new one for no reason, but at least that won't go bad for a while now. Do you know now what the affected area was exactly? I'm curious myself.

By the way, I like that car you have. For some reason I can really appreciate performance editions of the regular cars you see driving around every day. Makes things interesting to have family sedans beating the average old Mustang, but most kids only care about having something flashy.

And Luke... superchargers belong EVERYWHERE! :D

No, its a black 98 Grand Prix GTP Supercharged Coupe.
So supercharger is factory. ;)
Although its been modded a bit. It sits lower and has a computer modification.

Although I seen a beat up, but nice little 70-something Cutlass for sale. Interior is clean, leather, well-kept.
You get some of that rust off and get a fresh coat of paint...

So, when you start it, it beeps and stuff, like it should when it boots?

I dont know what cstriker is on about the beeps, never tried looking into that. Its probably like the "service engine" codes on your car, you look it up and it doesn't tell you crap except what you already knew.

This happened to me 2 times before. Once it was the monitor, the other it was a buggered graphics card. If you have another computer, perhaps test the monitor there? If it works, then it would be the graphics card. (also try testing the card in a different computer.) And lastly, perhaps your power supply is acting up, doubtful though, considering the symptoms.

If none of the stuff i just mentioned works, then buy a better computer, which might be the better option altogether.
