I don't play CS or have the custom wad, but it sounds like you've made too large of an open area. Do the walls slowly reappear if you walk toawrd them? If so you need to smallify your map.

OK... I'm stumped and the website doesn't have any clues. What's the deal with the Oxy tanks? They make noise but I still drown, what am I missing?

"I had a similar problem with barney.wad"
Try removing unused WADs from the options before you compile. I get have that problem all the time... from not removing ricochet.wad before I map a regular map.

"if you have a map file it works better."
No, it doesn't. MAP files lose all their groupings, RMF is better... but a BSP is all you should publish unless you want people looking behind the scenes.

"how could you put them all into one file?"
Check out "Setting up a Mod" in the tuts section.

This map sucks as bad as davideo59's website!

Just kidding, this map is lame but (unlike davideo59's website) at least it's complete!

For the same reason I don't use the default sky in regular HL maps, I like variety. And Ricochet's default isn't just black void... it's kind of like one of the 'neb' skies but with purple swirls.

Hi, my name is John, and I'm a Ricochet addict.

You have a right to be pissed off even if there's nothing wrong... New Yorkers are a great example! I didn't see any maps with his name, but that would make him a hippo-crate!

I still think you should delete, rename, retexture, and repost it. ;)

"PEOPLE PLEASE DONT DOWNLOAD THIS"
  • why not remove from vault? It would also get rid of those flames, and that's a good thing!
"will stop being a hypocrit"
  • do you know what that word means? I don't think it fits in this case. He may have been HYPERcritical, but he wasn't HYPOcritical.

If she made 1 huge room 4096*4096 you should smack her twice... once for making HL choke and once for tarnishing the family name.
Commented 20 years ago2004-03-17 16:15:39 UTC in vault item: Problem with bots Comment #1295
Did you check the map SuperMechaCow? The sky brush is 5248W X 5632L x 35H, and there are many places with a straight view from one end to the other. Well, if the other was actually visible instead of being a HoM.

PS. Smack your sister and then send her to the tutorials section... get her to learn the basics. Not just "don't do that" but the all important WHY. It's too late for gibbusoft here, but the force is strong within your sister. Go to her, guide her, bring her to the light!

PPS I accept no responsibility for smacking your sister. I'm an only child and I just assume that kind of violence occurs every day.
Commented 20 years ago2004-03-17 10:14:15 UTC in vault item: Problem with bots Comment #1289
Bots don't, but the game does! You can make a map as big as you want... but HL can only render so much at a time. Did you notice missing walls / buildings / sky texture when you stand on one end? This early in the AM that hall of mirrors effect almost made me hurl, didn't look for other problems.

and didn't we already hassle you about this?

I didn't even try to compile it. Half-Life cannot deal with that much open space, you need to size the map down a lot. I think the normal visible range is about 2000 units, and that's considered huge for an open area.
Commented 20 years ago2004-03-14 01:57:56 UTC in vault item: ScoutzKnivez2 Comment #1233
You can, delete this and repost it. I think you should rename it. If you someone downloads this and tries joining a server with the other version they'll get a cheesy error.

Sorry ministeve, but the saying is "NEVER EVER PUBLISH your 1st map". You've got some good ideas, and it looks like you tried quite a few of them on this map, but there are some awful mistakes.

I spent 10 minutes downloading and playing this, I want my 10 minutes back.

Nice, but it's a little too large. The textures start to disappear if you look from one end to the other. Adjust that, maybe mess with the friction in areas, and it'll be awesome!

Maybe it should slide over to the "Unfinished Stuff". Normally I wouldn't even vote on it, but it does not deserve 5 stars so I have to. I'll give you an extra star for originality, but that only takes you up to 2. Keep trying...

I'll try to read your mind on this one:
You're trying to make a controllable turret and it isn't working. The funk_tankcontrols should be a trigger brush, not the control panel itself. I have no idea what a "motion_manager" is so I guess you're working on a mod. Here's how it would work in regular HL:

Commented 20 years ago2004-02-14 11:51:56 UTC in vault item: Discs of Tron (Ricochet) Comment #1006
That's because almost nobody has my maps yet! Last night I had a server up for about two hours, this map had up to 5 people and rc_roundabout had up to 6. A total of 16 players joined my server. I admit, my buddy and I are 2 of those players, but that's still 14 people that were interested enough to join in and auto-download a map.

If you don't see a server with "Craash" in the name try connecting to craash.no-ip.org -- I usually have a Ricochet or Sven server going. Even if there's no one playing, jump in and say "hi" or something. If I'm home I'll jump in and play or switch maps or whatever.

Thanks! The sky is xen8. Complex lighting kept crashing the compiler because of all the open space, changed it to 1 spotlight with "is sky" checked. Either that, or "It just looks dark to humans. Citizens of Xen find this lighting more than sufficient." lol

Nice little killbox with decent action. Plenty of weapons... added half a dozen bots and it was a fragfest! It needs improvements but I didn't delete it yet, 3 stars.

- It needs a clip brush for the top, I was blasted right onto the top of the walls.
- Could use more detailed architecture... braces under catwalks, pillars for bridge, better "shield for ladder.

+ Jump-pack rocks!
+ Simple layout, very easy to make bot files.

Shame on you Captain P! I really didn't want to give 5 stars to anybody, but you deserve them. Just make sure not to make any maps better than this or the rating system will be ruined. I played an internet game with 2 humans and 6 bots, plenty of action! The textures are tight and I didn't see any mistakes in the map. Job well done!
