is the problem only with sdk, or are your source games also affected? i had the same exact error when i tried to launch the sdk. i noticed that i couldn't run cs source or hl2 either. i had to validate the hl2 files and cs source files, then wait for all the bad files to be re-downloaded before i could run hammer. after you do the validation, click on the steam icon in your task bar, then click monitor. it shows what games are being updated and their progress. wait til it's all finished, then give it a minute and try again. you may need to restart steam.

well, it has nice detail
after taking a closer look at it, let me say it has very nice detail. i only took a quick look for obvious problems the first time. also, i bet it looks even better with something other than blank white textures on everything (the way it showed up in my hammer). id like to see it when its finished :)

well, it has nice detail, but hardly enough to be non-compilable. let me guess, you're not using zoners to compile?

a few other things i noticed are that the only entities you have are some func_walls. you have no lights or player spawns. not that the lights would matter because the entire map is exposed to the void and would be fullbright anyway. but that wouldn't matter either cause, like i said, no player could spawn in it to see.

so let me ask you this... why are you trying to compile a map that you have no way of looking at? on top of all that i saw that you used the aaa texture on several world brushes.

fix all the stuff i mentioned, and try it again. if it doesn't work this time (using zoners), post your compile log.

okay that helped with the Muzzle flashes,
but, i still have no idea how to make the shells eject from the gun.
for that you can use an env_shooter. give it the same name as the ambient_generic you used for the gun sound.

use the following settings:

number of gibs: 1
model: models/shell.mdl

the rest of the settings, you can mess around with to get the effect you are looking for.

ok this is the same error you asked about in another thread:

1. read the tut for setting up hammer i posted in here like 10 times in the last week. look where it says build programs. you're using valve compile tools for bsp, and zoners for vis, which didnt run... neither did rad.

2. have you looked closely at those coordinates to see if anything looks strange?

3. have you tried to delete and remake that area?

4. run all your compile tools at normal setting.

5. tick "don't run game" after you open the window where you select "normal" for all the compile tools.

Can I point the bsp to something like desktop or a random folder, then move it to maps folder.
or, if the problem is the @ like rabid said, you should be able to just rename that folder and take out the @... right? but if you did that, you'd also need to reconfigure hammer to let it know where all your stuff is since it will be looking for it all in a non-existant folder with an @ sign in it.

the easy way is to just send the compiled maps to some folder you put on your desktop then move them manually. the slightly more complicated way of renaming and reconfiguring saves you time in the future. your choice.

sort of. for example if you want to make a dune buggy, you just put the point entity "prop_vehicle_jeep" in your map, and instead of making the buggy brush by brush, you just asign it the model "models/buggy.mdl" like anthony said. it's really pretty simple.

bl please try for once to think before you speak. you accused me of doing exactly what peace o crap has been doing... tool. he voted my maps to one star, he continued the flame war AFTER andy told us to stop and AFTER i stopped, he ALWAYS talks sh*t about me 1st before i respond, etc, etc, etc... if you have the mental capacity to read an entire thread (including this one) you will see that you are full of sh*t for accusing me of all the stupid crap you farted out of your mouth.

this thread and every other one i said anything to/about peace o crap stand as indisputable evidence that i'm not the one STARTing talking crap. and i actually respond to quite few of his remarks... so if you want to try to be popular and threaten and attack the guy that some of the "super cool dudes" try to fight with... then keep up what you're doing. but if you actually give a crap about this site, and aren't just talking out your arse, maybe you should have a look a little deeper than what a couple "super cool dudes" here have said about me and this situation, and read for yourself what peace of crap and myself have actually said and see who's the cancer at this site.

na, the ratings have nothing to do with it. i just proved him to be a complete loser in there. i chose to keep the fight between us where no one would ever look (his maps :lol: ), but he kept trying to argue with me out in the forums and shoutbox etc. andy said this was disruptive to the site, so i wouldn't respond to his angry little infantile remarks... i'd just post a link to his maps comments... where i obviously tore him a new one.

see, i realize that no one cares about our fight, but peace of crap is so delusional, that he thinks anyone actually gives a f*ck about him... that's why he keeps trying to save face for what i did to him in his map comments, out here in the forums, etc. He's obviously still feeling the beating i gave him. why else would he still feel the need to try to flame me in the forums?

And I use rotate and fit in the textur applicaiton all the time.
and neither of those will make the door how you want it. just do this:

using the "texture application tool", left click on the texture you want to adjust, then, where it says scale up at the top, make the x number negative and push apply.

if you don't understand this, post exactly what you dont understand.

yeah killer your question's been answered, you've been given two different ways that will get your door looking exactly like you want it. if you dont understand one, try the other. (and i'm not talking about rotating the texture since you said that's not what you're wanting).

the quickest way for him to do what he wants is to just use the To Face method
yeah, i didn't know if the arrow pointed up, down, left, or right on the texture or if he meant opposite direction when he said "other direction" or if he wanted to get the arrow to point the opposite than it shows up normally when you browse it. i was just giving a generic answer factoring in all the unknowns. you're probably right about him just using the to face method, as he probably just wants the back of the door to match the front...

how I make the arrows on door (C1AOB_DR4B) point the other way?
i don't know which way the arrow points on that texture, but you can use your "toggle texture application" tool in the left tool bar to turn it around.

using the tool, left click on the texture you want to adjust, then either put a minus sign (-) in front of either the x or y numbers where it says scale and push apply. that will make the texture reverse its image.

or, using the same tool, you can try rotating the texture to get the arrow pointing the intended direction.

your approach should depend on wether or not there's any writing on the texture and which direction you want the texture flipped or spun. experiment with the tool and you should get the door looking how you want in no time.

an easy way to get the texture to emit the exact colour of light you want is to make a light entity and have it be the colour you want the tex light to emit. then just copy and paste the numbers from the light entity next to the texture name in your lights.rad... like grim suggested.

there may be easyer ways to find what numbers make what colours, but that's the way i always do it.
