Would have to agree on CoD1 and 2. They were outstanding at the time. 4 was also superb and pretty much blew me away when it came. MW2 was just more of the same from 4 -- not bad, really, just nothing new at all. Only tried the multiplayer on 1, 2 and 4 and the multiplayer segments of all of them are superb.

Gunman Chronicles is an awesome mod of Half-Life turned retail. Has a bunch of cool weaponry and enemies. It's a singleplayer experience on par with Half-Life's singleplayer campaign.

I'm not -- both of those are my sister's and very, very old. The original Sims CD and package are lost to time.

In fact, most of my retail games are quite outdated -- I only buy online these days.

Actually, I'm sort of wondering how they'd go about this too. Like potatis said, all they have control over are the root DNS servers located in America (and that's not all of them) and possibly strangle each American ISP's internet connection.

Even if they managed to kill off the DNS servers, there'd still be an internet, just no domain names. Services not utilising domain names would work fine.

This could be a good one, and the greened-out objection isn't necessarily so: no one knows how heaven looks, no? Each person's personal interpretation of heaven or hell could provide interesting results... I'm thinking a lot of gamer-related heavens where everyone wears Freeman glasses and crowbars are on the house.

Although the price versus hardware thing is a bit skewed too... you can get a relatively cheap PC (I'm talking the price of a PS3) that can run any console port fine. The consoles are a bit dated in terms of hardware nowadays.

When a console is just released, though, its hardware is pretty awesome (think X360 and PS3 on release), and you'd be hard pressed to build a PC with the same graphical capabilities as that of a PS3, so yeah, I'd definitely say a console is the more economic choice when considering a new-generation console.

Life expectancy is also arguably better on the console... if you get an X360 you're guaranteed it'll run all the games released on the console for as long as you own it.
For PC, on the other hand, you don't know how long it'll be able to run new games, especially not if you're building a budget system (think price of a console, again).

Not to mention the hardware upgrade process is quite daunting for casual players.

Anyway, in closing, this really isn't a black and white issue. Console gaming isn't better than PC games, and vice versa. They both have their strengths and weaknesses, and whether you should be going console or PC as a gamer depends heavily on a lot of different circumstances.

That being said, I'm an avid PC gamer and haven't even owned a console since the PSX (which was pretty kickass, mind you), but I still see the upsides of console gaming.

Pfft. To get any real enjoyment from a fighting game you'll have to buy non-standard equipment either way :>

But yes, the controller argument is a bit weak... buying a USB dual-stick controller really isn't that much of a bother for any PC enthusiast. It's true, though, that developers agree with this sentiment. Fewer and fewer platformer titles make it to the PC, which is a shame. I mean, I really liked the first PoP.

Doable if you turn the doors into func_trains with paths next to the actual elevator's.

As rim said, the trigger-work will be quite complex, considering you both need to have triggers for moving the elevator and doors up when the elevator's supposed to go up and triggers for the doors to move aside when the elevator doors are supposed to open.

As far as gameplay changes and racial updates from the first game goes, I really like where Starcraft II has gone. Feels a lot more varied than the first game.

Graphics look good, but they can't really compare in visual quality to other games (hell, Company of Heroes and World in Conflict look better.) Graphical excellence has never been Blizzard's game, but they still create great visual styles, providing fitting atmospheres to all their games. Think WoW: kind of looks like ass, but the cartoony style makes it passable -- even durable. WoW still looks acceptable, even though it's soon 6 years since release. I think this is mainly because of the cartoony style (admittedly, they do update the graphics continuously, but the changes are mostly cosmetic). Compare this to how other games, like Everquest 2, look today: it's just ass.

I can't really comment on the competitive element of the game, I've only played the Warez'd version with Starcrack AI. Doesn't really matter for me, I doubt I'll be playing any serious competitive matches anyway, I mostly like custom maps with crazy shit going on all over (Starcraft II DotA anyone? It's going to happen.)

In any case, I will most likely be buying it. Can't say no to a Blizzard game.

There's this underground anime series called Poketto Monsuta that's really worth checking out. Deep, engaging storylines with well-written characters and plots.

Nah, really though. The only anime I've really liked a lot is Elfen Lied, a short series (13 episodes) about a girl with invisible arms who cut people in half and stuff. It's really very engaging, and with a great story. To be fair, the occasional nudity and incredibly grave violence help, too.

Give the first episode a try. You can catch the first scene here, it's pretty powerful. If you don't like it, you probably won't like the rest of the show.

And please, whatever you decide to watch or not watch, watch it in its original language. Dubbing is the bane of animated series.

Textures and (I think) geometry in .werkzeug is procedurally generated, meaning it's generated on runtime instead of being saved on the hard drive. Ergo, less space used. I imagine it's not equally friendly to the CPU though :) .

About 7 years ago there was a game that looked like Halo 2 and was only 65kb in size. I've seen it and was amazed.
.werkzeug (although I believe the game I first played was .kkrieger), the 96kb game. Impressive, but it most certainly doesn't look like Halo 2. Or play like it.

As Strideh said, too much of the 3D graphics industry is tied down with polygons. Big money means little innovation. As always.

Either case, Dx11 (and, well, DirectX in general) is incredibly unimpressive. It's naught more but an API, made to promote games on Windows by Microsoft.

DirectX is, in one word, bullshit. Tesselation's been around forever on OGL. As usual, with commercial products, it is a lame attempt to push existing technology onto users claiming it's innovative.

In fact, polygons are also bullshit. Sorry to say, corporate interests ruin inventiveness.

Although audio and video embedding are indeed cool and nifty features, I question their relevance to the site itself. TWHL is about mapping -- audio and video embedding would be incredibly peripheral and pretty much only used in the general disc. section.

That said, I'm not strongly opposed to the ideas -- I like gadgets. But I wouldn't call it necessary. I mean, linking to an Mp3 file or a youtube video is almost as good as embedding it directly.
