Quite an amazing result if you ask me.

Well, I got three things in the mail today.

First was a set of round cake tins. I've always liked food, so I recently decided to make more of it. Tonight I will be making a Red Velvet cake for my gf for Valentine's. It's her favourite type. While a large cake for one person might be a tad much, I can't be bothered to adjust the recipe.

Second thing was 5 Ubuntu installation disks. For some reason none of the ones I made would work, so I went and ordered one on the internet. Unfortunately the minimum order number was 5, so I got that.
As a result, my computer is now in working order. It will take some time to get used to Ubuntu but I think I might like it.

The last thing was a package from Ukraine. Inside was a PMG gas mask. I've taken to collecting them. I already own a PBF gas mask, and those two are the ones the Civil Protection masks are based on in HL2. It's interesting how different they are. The PBF is an unusual design, the filters are on the inside, which as far as I know makes it unique. Impractical in a gas attack, the filters can't be changed without removing the mask, but still quite cool.
The PMG is much more conventional. The bulge that goes across below the eyepieces is an air channel, when you breath in it blows the incoming air past the lenses, defogging them. The disc at the front that looks like a showerhead is a voice diaphragm, it allows the wearer to be able to speak and be understood. The reason the filter is to the side is so the soldier can look down the sights of his rifle without it getting in the way. I notice it seems to be of cheaper construction than the PBF. I can't wear this one, it is a size medium and I have a size extra large head, but it looks like it wouldn't be too comfortable. The PBF on the other hand is extremely comfortable, due to the amount of rubber on the inside giving it a padded feel.

They both come with bags as well. The PBF bag looks like a handbag, but it looks quite nice and is well constructed. The PMG bag looks like a satchel or book bag (at least when closed), and is also pretty well constructed. Might work as a drop pouch for airsoft, seeing as how it has a magazine pocket and an extra leg strap so it doesn't swing when running.

tl;dr: Got cake tins, Ubuntu installation disks and a gas mask in the mail, and now my computer works.

[Edit] I was mistaken about the PBF being unique, the US M17 gas mask also has internal filters.

[Edit edit] I've baked the cake. I think it turned out quite nice. Unfortunately the exterior surface of the cake is brown rather than red, but since it is iced that isn't really a big deal. The icing didn't turn out as good. I thought I had forgotten to take down the instructions for it. It turned out the website I got it from had forgotten to put them up, they only had the cake recipe and the ingredients of the icing. I decided to just throw them all in a bowl and mix them together, which worked to an extent. It came out looking like glue. I assume I was supposed to whisk the egg whites until they were 'peaky', but that takes bloody ages to do by hand.
Anyway, at this point it's running off the top of the cake and off the plate. My housemates don't mind, I've told them that we'll only be having two or three slices between us, so they can finish it off after my gf leaves.

Scott reenacting the "Meet the Heavy" video for Team Fortress 2.

Unfortunately, he barely whispered when he did it, so it's very hard to hear what he's saying. I think it's because he knew that he does not know the lines precisely, so he mumbled. The first reenactment (not recorded on video) was much louder, but he got self-conscious once the camera started rolling.

Life on Earth just changed.

THe North Atlantic current is gone. Which means, it wont distribute hot water like it used to, which keept UK from freezing and Skandinavian lands from being too cold for living in.

[edit] just finished it :(.
Stalker: Call of Pripyat.

This game is addicting! Just traveled across the underground tunnels to Pripyat( arrived single- the rest of my squad died). First mission in Pripyat, 3 left to kill from the ambush(while the stupid allied NPCs die) and I die.
Quitting because of this, after 5 hours of playing.

Today I decided to play thru good ol Vanilla HL1 again and I came up with an idea: We all share what moment defined Half-Life for you.
For Me it was During Surface Tension and it was when you were crawling through a small pipe and then at the end a Soldier threw a Satchel into the pipe. He then set it off and you had to Outrun the Fireball. That was the defining moment of the Half-Life series for me. Share what defined the series for you in the comments.

I just watched a Japanese (English subtitles) horror/comedy/something movie called House (know as Hausu in Japan) from 1977.

It
was
Fucking
Awesome.

If you take David Cronenberg plus David Lynch times Potatoes and take that to the power of Giygas then you'd probably get one of my dreams.

Oh yeah House was pretty weird too, and I like weird.
Its got a man eating piano (Super Mario 64?)
and its got a killer lampshade (TvTropes would be proud)
and a disembodied head biting a woman and smiling (... I got nothing)

See it now.

Sorry I haven't had a real blog in a while, I've been busy with a few personal things along with Bloodbath and self-related projects. So lets get down to business.
Streetlevel(Remake) was released on January 28 and has four ports. This map has really been a challenge, dealing with the crazy wpoly count and compile times(15,000+ vis!)I even did not continue work on the map after New Years, I was actually thinking of just canning the release altogether. Looking back I am so happy I didn't and was even able to create ports for Counter-Strike, Opposing Force, Scientist Hunt, and The Specialists. After four months of hard work I hope you enjoy! You can view the map here on TWHL: http://twhl.info/vault.php?map=5745 or you can see other links off my site.
The Scientist Hunt HD Map Pack has been out for over a month now, and I feel silly announcing it today in this post, but as I said before, life has gotten in the way. This release was really quite something, I got in contact with Rich Whitehouse and he eventually played a game with Joe and I. It was crazy that the man himself was playing our pack with us. I know Rich isn't a huge game developer(unfortunately), but this was on par of chatting with your favorite movie star, or for me it was. Rich even tweeted about the pack and some other updates on sites like Facebook. This then lead me to meet a man who went by the name of Vash back in the day. I originally contacted him about his older Scientist Hunt levels that seem to be missing. He has helped me get his maps together and with a few other authors I can release the last of the custom Scientist Hunt maps. There is only one map by the name of Scislay by [187]*SlaYeR*{GeN} I could not find sadly. Be sure to check out the pack here: http://twhl.info/vault.php?map=5722 and also check out Rich's site and games: http://www.richwhitehouse.com/ if you would.
Last but not least, we are getting the groove back with Overturn. The holidays and life have left us doing little to no work on the mod. I can assure you however that progress has returned and we are looking forward to a release this year.
That's it for this blog post, if you'd like to see more of my maps check out my personal site. Also be sure to check out the rest of the Bloodbath Software team, they're a great bunch of modders.

Movie Review: Chronicle
User posted image
The scifi genre of movies has a knack for producing films that seem really interesting in the preview/trailers, but turn out to be just the worst utter shit imaginable.

Long as you are ok with losing 102 minutes of your life you will certainly NEVER get back, to a "film" following the format of jerky, first-person camera perspective popularized by this movie that SHALL NOT be named, then by all means go flush your money down the toilet on Chronicle.

Not only do i despise this type of film, i feel it is really poorly written and performed, and i honestly have no idea how it ever made it to the big screen.

1/5 stars. Extreme and utter poo, you'd be better served doing just about anything else than sitting down to watch this movie.

Checked woot today. They're selling a basic HP computer with a dual core AMD processor in it. I didn't buy but i checked the benchmarks.

Turns out a $350 basic starter machine has a better processor than my 'gaming rig' (dubbed "The Beast")

Sad benchmark Revelation

Methinks i need another processor / Mobo.

I had a weird dream last night. Or rather, the weird part was when I got up.

In the dream, my father and I took a bus and a train to Poland. Not much more than that. I tried to find good looking chicks in the train station but I couldn't see any :P

The weird part is when I woke up. On the dining room table there was this small paper with text in Polish that I had never seen before. I could barely make out what it said, something like a QA check from our oven - which is Polish made, but we've had it for years now and only now I saw that paper just sitting there unexplained. Must have fallen off it or something, but it still feels a bit strange that I had that dream last night and today I found that paper.

Oh hai thar.

I figured if the world is ending this year I may as well at least drop in and say hi.

But the world isn't ending this year, regardless.

Hi.

I just took a glance through my games library, and it kinda made me think. The fact I've already pumped 123 hours into Terraria suprised me, since I only got it about a month ago. I wanted to compare it to something else I consider my many hours well-wasted on. I looked at Mount & Blade, and saw it only had 131 hours on it. This was kinda odd to me, seeing as I've had it for at least 2 years now. Yet it has felt like I've played Mount & Blade so much more, and Terraria so much less.

I looked through several other games that I thought I'd pumped quite a lot of time into (games like Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers and Burnout Paradise), and found they only came out to 45 and 38 hours, respectively. I honestly thought I would've played Burnout more than MtG, but I guess not.

Plants VS Zombies holds a rather honourable 161 hours, and that's because it's damn fun. I wasn't really suprised by this number, especially when other people have played it occationally. Puzzle Quest holds a whopping 224 hours, but if it were solely my hours, it'd be closer to 10, maybe.

I was kinda shocked to find it'd put 215 hours into Left 4 Dead. I guess I did used to play it every afternoon after school with a friend at one point.
I also looked at the achievements, and it's safe to say how many achievements you have is completely unindicitive of how much you play a game. In L4D (215 h), I've only gotten 61 of the 73 achievements. meanwhile in Portal (10 h), I've gotten them all. I'd probably have all of Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter's (24 h) if most of them weren't solely Multiplayer ones. I still hold that achievement are far from an indication of skill in a particular game, unless you get all of them, in which case it remains unindicitive of skill, and becomes an indication of how much time you have to blow.

Sorry for the paragraphs, especially if you read them. I just wanted to empty my brain.

tl;dr - I play 2 much video games.

Though I'm now curious. What games have you guys gotten all (or most) of the achievements in? Do you care about/like them? Do you go out of your way to get them, and if so, how hard do you try to get them all? (Little Rocket Man, anyone? =P) Or do you just wish they were gone?
You get the gist.
