Actually it is possible, it requires use of the entity func_train for both the doors and and elevator and some serious coodination, if you don't have a good working knowledge of func_trains then it is really hard to explain. Basically, all buttons target a multimanager which will first target the doors to close, remember they are trains and that path_corners have the 'wait for retrigger' flag. What the doors do is move sideways to close and then when triggered again they move upwards to a path corner on the second floor. At exactly the same time, trigger the elevator to move up to the second floor with the doors. It doesn't always look perfect but it does the trick. Please let me know if you need more explaining

Even if you wanted to change levels in CS, that would take some massive CPU power. Think about it, lets say the server (the person hosting the map) walks into the changelevel trigger and moves to the next map. All the other players would still be on the first map so the server would have to load both maps AND manage both. Unfortunately, while this would be an awesome feature, Goldsource just can't support it, that and you won't be able so see the people on the other map, its not possible.

On the note about the CS SDK, it was never released, because it wasn't actually made by valve. Two guys made it and submitted it to valve to approval and they liked it so much that they branded it. CS was made by Gooseman and cliffe.

With those 'game' triggers, they are the only ones that you can use in a map. Why you ask! Because although those other triggers you want do exist (in code) they are not open, as in, the map cannot alter or even give them an input. So they are unusable. As for those other ones (freezer_udoor and mousetrap) i have never heard of them.

Also with a mirror effect you want, this is possible. The Spirit of HL mod has actually developed real-time reflections, this uses MASSIVE amounts of processor power on the old Goldsource engine and the small tester map i saw had awful framerates. Whats more, Spirit is not CS so again, not possible.

in Comp From scratch: Motherboard Post #259790
Definitely get an Asus motherboard, i have an Asus laptop and its a sweet machine. It has NEVER been bogged down, even with massive compiles, i can still do other things like play HL with no lag. You will need more ram. Mine is 3gb and that has room for upgrade. You will want at least 3gb for good performance.

It's just my preference, but you should get at least a 250+ gb HDD and then use a much larger external drive for data storage. If you have high-powered USB ports, some external drives can use two USB ports, one for data transfer and one for power. This greatly improves you system by allowing much more swapspace for programs which gives you better speed. And don't worry about longer USB data transfers. By a good external drive and the transfer rate can be better than your HDD transfer rate. I even have my old WON version of Half-Life installed on my External drive and I have no trouble whatsoever. You also have a very handy backup if you computer decides to kick the bucket (or you decide to upgrade)

in trigger_changetarget Post #259692
I don't know for sure, but trigger_changetarget will only change a keyvalue that is named 'target'. I'm pretty sure path_corners have a 'Fire on Pass' field that means to target an entity when the train reaches it, so this may actually be the 'target' field that the trigger_changetarget is trying to change. Thats probably why it won't work. Only func_track_trains have the ability to branch paths but even then, it won't work for different floors.

Are you kidding! We should pay these people LOTS of money, so they can take off with it and buy fancy webcode, spend more time on the net, lose their jobs because they are not at work so often, and then we have to support them for the rest of their lives. LOL. That, and i can't give you money, i don't have/want a credit card or paypal-usable account

Also, I'm not here very often, I work full time, study part time, map alot of free time and no internet at home, hence my very limited TWHL contact.

And I forgive you for being late, I understand how hard the simplest things can be (aged care work teaches you much, young grasshopper). Reviews can be quite daunting to write, i've tried to do a few large ones but I just end up babbling on.

Also, I will not paint anyones house red. I will choose green and pink polkadots! :plastered:

A little example of the highway design, with a trigger event to use later. The boat yard could work, we do need something in between the mining yards/mines and the town.

BTW, does anyone know when the SDK is released?
how about you're waiting for an airlift in the middle of a school football field
Really, airlifts are quite bland, we need something new, which is why I opted for a train.

(apparently SOMEONE decided to copy my ending as well! lol) :walter: I'm not picky.

Well, thats a real pain in the ass! We can still design a new type of town though so what should we aim at? I was just playing through Death Toll and I liked Riverside but it would be too urban for this campaign. We also need a good place to start. I came up with an idea for a very large highway, with 4 lanes and a divider in between. Survivors have to make their way along weaving around breaks in the road (as it's a long way down because its over a canyon) and crashed cars and other obstructions. At the end they leave via an offramp which goes straight into the town.

@ZombieLoffe
Don't worry about it too much, as I am still relatively new to the Source mapping thing but this is why I want to do this, to get practice and learn 'The Power of Source' lol

Also, I wanted to avoid the hassle of having a messy community built project, instead having a community designed project, i will do the mapping but will post updates and pics and betas as often as possible, seeing as I have pretty much cleared my project schedule!

No, you'll turn into one of those white see-thru bugs that live in caves and you will then proceed to be the pun of all bad jokes. Honestly though, it is personal choice. I don't like live chat rooms and things like myspace and youtube, they just don't appeal to me because there is no direction to them, basically you make them up as you go along. here, we are focused on a general subject, even if we don't actually stay on subject. *frowns at some particular other members

Alright, this could work. We need to organize though
There is already a forrest map in L4D btw
There are actually several 'forest' themes maps, but no two forests are the same!

So, just to organize:

We have players start in a 'Pripyat' style town. Or, start on a large highway that goes straight into the town. Then get through the town into forest. Get through forest into lumber yard with mines (i decided the two should be combined) and then a finale which i have drawn up a short storyboard up for:

Very inspiring pics there Striker, i don't think a space version really works as there won't be any usable content that resembles a space station or anything. I think we should focus around the mines, although I haven't completely played through L4D yet, i didn't see any maps working though a mine. And we can make them look as good as Ep2 caves because L4D is better than the Ep2 engine.

Ok, so when the L4D SDK is released, i plan on immediately going about and creating a new L4D campaign. However, I plan to make this a more public project and I want YOU (the ones reading this) to offer feedback and input ideas. So, with that, since we can't actually do any mapping yet, lets get the storyboard and features of this project completed first.

First up:
Locations!

Input some possible locations to build this game. eg, forest, town, city, whatever. Keep in mind we will need 5 locations and they need to link together in a sensible fashion.

My first idea was start in a small town, escape town to forest/river, get to mining facility, enter mines, escape map (no ideas yet here)

Please, offer any ideas you have, this is a TWHL community project!

I seem to get Bill all the time when i pick a random character, mind you, i seem to like bill the most, his voice actor, i know him from somewhere! Anyway, I hosted a online server for a while on normal and we had some fun on that. Now, however, I have already kicked up the level to advanced and tried it on my own, (while im offline). I can't get past the last subway train. By then we've all used our healthkits and on no more than 25% health. Then we get swamped by either two hoards of zombies or a tank. I like getting to the end of the first level though, my score is usually 150+ with each other player killing approx 50. THATS A LOT OF FREAKING ZOMBIES!!!
