I am actually feeling the same as you rowleybob, concerning the theme. What made the original Abandoned good was its theme, and the actual machine.
The theme, however, is very difficult to recreate in Source, without using custom materials. I'd like to rebuild the machine, but I doubt I'd be able to texture it properly.

I need some comments however, particularly with the lighting: it has had some very mixed reactions. Some people liked it, some people thought it was horrible.
I am aware of the black props, and various other bugs, so there is no real need to tell me about them.
Anyway, without further ado, I give you some very early Abandoned : Source Screenshots!

I think my avatar is about the perfect 'max' size. 110x110 is pretty big, but at the same time not huge. Yah.

Performance won't be a main aspect, but remember that good performance is always better than poor performance. Know that your map will not be discarded just because of the performance, as it is a very minor aspect for what I am judging.
To get rid of texture loading lag, open up the texture thing and in the bottom left corner is 'Size.' Change that to 256x256, that way it only has to load a small amount of textures on the screen at once. It helps heaps, believe me.

I preferred the old forum 'dot' system better. Also, the Indicator Key is insanely and unnecessarily large.
I think it'd look cooler if the light_env was coming from behind the big wall thing, casting a shadow down onto the terrain. Dunno why, but I think it'd look much cooler.

edit: also, make a list of all the changes, so people are aware of things that aren't too obvious (such as the edit button for the most recent post). Change log is coming. Says so on the second News post.
It'd be great to have an address book for our PMs too..
