in trees problem in my map? Post #313231
If the model is located in the models folder, try models/pi_tree3.mdl

It's the whole path name not just the model name.

Tommy 14 is your friend
Often because the cycler entity, cyler sprite or some other entity used has the wrong path/name. You must use the perfect path/name, with the right capitals - or it will stop the game.
Simply enough, just quadruple-check your pathnames :ciggie:

in help with buttons Post #313223
Each button has what is called a "master"
Until that master is activated, a button cannot be triggered.
You can make trigger_relays be the master for each button.

So have a button trigger a multi_manager to trigger those relays off when you don't want the other buttons to be active.

In any other case, however, those relays should be triggered on to have the buttons be active.

Is it windows 7? Try removing all the extra sound effects they force through the sound drivers.
Also try reducing the sound quality to see if that fixes anything.
If it does, you need a new soundcard, bro

Cloud Atlas was an outstanding movie.
I can definitely say that the future with the waitresses and the boat made me cringe. I was honestly shocked when i watched that part.

Aside from that, the movie is excellent.

in Map Broken! Post #313116
If I'm working on a small project, I'll create a new version every hour or so. I'll name it Map_01, map_02 etc etc.
If its a larger project i'll create a new version for each day i'm working in it - having the date in the filename.
map_3-14-13, map_3-15-13, etc etc.

I got into this practice at work and boy is it handy.
I also store all my temp files in dropbox so they update everytime a new version is created.

I started dropboxing things because i'm always bouncing between computers and having everything in the same place across all my computers is incredibly handy.

@PenguinBoy - I'm afraid of new software :aghast:

You can create a particle effect using HL2's Particle editor, Import it into the game with a info_particlesystem entity, Trigger it on with a button, and after a few seconds, kill the fire entity.

Gimme a few while i dig up examples on how to do each.. I know there's a particle tutorial floating around TWHL somewhere.

Particle Editor Information
Other Related Links
Good Waterfall Tutorial

That should be everything you need to create the particle system and import it into the map.
Now are you versed with the Input/Output system? If you're not doing the other triggers can be tricky. Lemme know

in What does: Error. Plane with no normal m Post #313095
When you find it, you can either fix it straight from the error log, or you can align the texture "to world" or "to face" from the texture application menu.
If you HAVE vertex-manipulated the brush, make sure you don't have anything like this going on :
User posted image
Because that's 2 faces on one plane and hammer doesn't like that very much.

It also might result from vertex manipulating a cube into a wedge and not merging the vertices when they're overlapping.

you should be able to make those func_doors, or if you want to go the fancier route, trains.
As for the transparency, set the render mode to texture and modify the fx value.

in should I get an arduino? Post #312888
Peoples of TWHL! I would like to get back into the world of programming micro processors. The only thing is, I don't know where to start... I tried getting the TI launch pad but I honestly don't know where to begin because with that because it's just the chip. I'm looking to read digital and analog inputs, control digital and analog outputs, and possibly communicate on an RS-232 network.
Can an arduino do all this?
Are they easy to get into?

The Compo is over but my mapping senses are tingling and I want to create!
Would anyone like to team up and create a map pack with a short, but sweet storyline?

I'm thinking maybe 3-4 maps.
I'm open to any takers and storyline ideas.
I would prefer the source engine, but HL1 is also fun!

22K should be fine so long as the track is very bassy.
its only when your frequencies approach the 10Khz range that the nyquist rule comes into play and starts to distort the high range :-P
But you could always ship your mod on a CD and actually put audio on it.
Then it'll play music

Honestly, engine wise, it doesn't make a difference. Like previously mentioned, you would end up with the same amount of faces whether it was one brush or two brushes. I suppose it'd be easier to handle one brush while mapping, but it be safer to manipulate two brushes so you're not at risk of throwing an invalid brush error.

As for nulling the unseen faces, that doesn't matter either (in my opinion) unless you think they might possibly be seen. If this was going to be a walkable section, you might want to bevel everything except the top faces.

I don't know exactly what bevel does, its been too long since i've used it. But i do remember people saying it was good.
I think i came to the same conclusion as well.. but again.. i don't remember.

/2 cents
