Carve can leave cracks in objects which causes VVIS and VRAD to take longer and add lag to games.

Instead of carving you assembled objects piece by piece...If for example you used to carve a door hole then you simple build the left wall, then the right wall and then the top wall and you should have a door hole.

Multi-textured walls? Just go to texture application and choose a texture and hit apply.

Click block tool, and cylinder for rounded objects.

You can use whatever you want provided you ask for permission...OF COURSE you can use CSS materials in HL2...It's wrong if you use them in a comercial game.
FEAR isn't very rich on architecture, and I am trying to recreate fear so it will remain boxy.

From experience you can't have too many lights with names.

What you do is simply go to flags and have the lights start off by unticking s tart on.

Then trigger them to turn on.

Use one trigger_once that triggers lights 1 to turn on and then after 2 seconds lights 2 etc.

Argh I know what's wrong but I just can't remember...It's not as simple as using paths and air nodes...If I recall air nodes are not even used by flying enemies...

I'll have to look this up...

Post small screenshots by resizing them in Gimp for instance.

It's hard to explain texturing...I look at something and if it don't look right I change it. You just have to learn for yourself.

I'll say this nicely but your texture scale is unnecessarily huge and ugly and the lights don't add much to it either.

I'm sure the effects will be grand but right now your choice of textures really puts me off.

Something tells me you clicked fit...

But this is too early to judge...Bring on more screens when it looks good.

Well can't say much but looks like you spent some time on those displacements cause they look rather nice.

My only complaint is the media is too early, needs more detail like as Rimrook said a Heli with red lights or perhaps a row of red beacons leading the way.

Use the arch tool for pipes.

As I said too early...I could make the displacements in 5 minutes...I'm only saying this cause at the Uni I looked at, the teacher showed us last years work and one man made a mod in HL2 with a desert and it looked just like yours only more deserty and dusty.

Well to start with...How about an Online Portfolio and a paper version.

Your website could be updated with images of your HL1 work and your paper version could be designed on Photoshop with pictures and information about them with a nice border style etc...
