K Im in with my new DM map, DM aztec. Ive been optimizing all day, got it from 10 fps to 60, 45 min compile to 5 mins. ^_^ I just need to texture it an Im done! It plays awsome!

I got lucky and worked doing cad design for a company that sesigns coffe shops. basicly mapping without the fun.

Im 17 and Im picking looking at Unis now. I coasted through my GCSEs not really giving much of a shit but I barly got back into school. Habboi is right yknow. I have to work alot to get good A levels, but Its the only way Im gonna get onto a game design/development course at Uni.

Im thinking dark medivel themed but really it depend on textures since Ive spent more than Id like on this I probably wont do custom.

Yeah I was gonna upload a beta last night but it was 2 am and I pressed compile and fell asleep :roll:

I woke up at 5 oclock with my laptop about to fall off my bed and the compile done. I was exausted but I wanted to upload it so I did a test run and fell aslee for another 10 minuites, woke up looked at my laptop and realised it was fullbright and there must have been a vis error. I said fuck, held down the manual shutdown button and slept untill 7am. so tonight def. I MUST release SOMTHING tonight.... :zonked:

yes Ill go with you on the blocky, I originally brushed out the main areas for the first alpha to see if the flow was good, I tend to work that way and detail it last. thatway I get fast compile times and Im not afraid to rip apart my map because of some 1337 brushes. my mapping goes:

-concept scetch
-basic blocks
-playable map
-environment
-details
-textures
-optimizing

because I use dev textures I can save texturing till last and ten submit them for null textures becasue they are only left on face the player cant see. this makes optimizing very easy.

Ive got a ver working beta Ive lan tested quite a bit. Id love to test it on muzz's server though. Ill get the bsp up asap.

yeah, Im sure whils escaping from an underground secrent military research center infested with aliens and swarming with murderous special forced intent on fraggin his ass he would only sustain MINOR injuries. honestly hunter tone it down a bit! :P

BTW as a Graphic art student studying Graphic design for 3 years, saying pfotoshop isnt art is like saying poster paints arnt art just because four year olds use them as well as professionals.

ooh yes! self snarking. baad.

btw, healspray is an attack done by the basic building unit in NS. the gorge has no good attacks and little health. the healspray happend to do 1 damage a second, but there is a limit to how much you can use it in one go. so for omeone to die from healspray, they would have to not know how to use an FPS...

yeah but surly time travelling to the past would be illegal.

and also, going back intime in theory would make an alternate dimension so this dimension could be the one where time travel is invented.

ok My compile time is down to around 10-15 minuites. yay. and Im not even done null texturing everything yet. however, I still need cliffs (many faces = urgh) sprites, moving textures and sounds so that may change.

I use wally but what on earth is the point of bsp veiwer? never need it. just use Vmex. (by the same guy as GCFscape btw...)

oh, I made those cause I use them so much in source. I use em to scale my maps properly, very usefull. but I messed them up so its missing a line horizontaly and verticaly. (forgot about tilinng heh :P) and I never fixed it.

anyway the dev textures are not what your suposed to comment on! you couldnt possible have read and loaded images in the time you posted that! :o

OK ppl, set up cameras and film yourself doing it for proof! anyway, by horror movie law, the camera either wont work or nothing will happen while the camera is on so we should be safe ;)

Ive had exactly the same thoughts about the Big J. What if he was a time traveler from a future utopia? People should still worship him I think - christianity does too much good in the world to be abolished - but It would be pretty wiered if in the futer there was some newspaper scandel about som ecolledge guys who meesed up time. :lol:

Ok the big argument for aliens is that the universe is infinate ergo theres infinate possibiltys. but noone thinks of two things:
1. It COULD be infinate nothing. its just an unimaginably small chance.
2. We would be aliens to other lifeforms. We went from early hot air ballons to interplanatary space travel in just a centuary. Humans learn pretty fast. I think its far more likely that WE are the ones who make contact with another alien planet - if any exist. However I supremely hope that dosnt happen, Humans have a habit of royaly fucking up things they discover.

3. the universe might not be infinate.

as for ghosts and stuff, well none knows what happens whenyou die so you cant discredit it. deamons = bull though.

I was snorkeling with a tour thingy off spain and about <10m under the boat there where really big rocks, the water was amazingly clear. fine.
Then as I swam out a bit The big rocks kind of ended and the water went doooowwwnnn until it was black. I forgot how to breath for a while I nearly had a panic attack.

other than deep water theres not alot else Im worried about. Spiders are ok, but I live in the UK - if a spider bit you you probably shouldnt have climbed into its enclosure at the zoo. :lol:

@garg: Thats called Lucid dreaming - I could do it for a while when I was younger but I havnt had a lucid dream for many years...

For those who cant - basicly, you realise your in a dream so you can do whatever you like - it just wont matter - its like having virtual reality.

Deep Water - I freeze up and frikin die. If I cant see the bottom eg middle of a lake/out at sea, I hate it. I know this because I have been in both situations... :zonked:

Ive decided to do a small DM map for the Muz server. Origionaly being an aztec themed map, this map has taken on a dark, stone castle / magma theme. In probably a throwback to DM days of old. the map as I say is quite small so I think it will play well on Muzz's server*. the reason for creating this was to have a deathmatch map I could recreate for source without puring months of work into it.

*One Q, for the comp thats on, are custom sounds or textures allowed? if so; wad or included in the bsp?

I know you all CRAVE screenshots, but Ill post lem later this evening when I rig up the lighting.

Current build is:
Alpha build - basic light/player entities
non textured (I use my own dev textures)
no weapon placements
no fine details

If I can find some textures, I may push this out tonight (later - 1am UK time :P) but If I have to make my own Ill probably release it in a day or so :(

Ok it seems to me that the TWHL community is being a bit negative here... one is remided of the 'Habboi' incedent... everyone jumping on the bandwagon - you guys seem to like flaming :P

that said, When your making a mod - yeah, code comes first. its the foundation of any game. but you wont lure in mappers with code. mappers are all about the visual creativity. making worlds. code just dosnt turn us on :P

also, speeking as someone studying graphic art for 3 years: your flash intro is good in theory but your typographys a bit... crap.

1.get a new font
2.Photoshop your text, use http://www.goodtutorials.com/ for some text effects tutorials.
3. save your sexy text as a .png image and import it into flash.

stay away from bold primary colours unless your bauhaus. g/l with the mod!
