in Disney to buy Marvel for $4 billion!!! Post #272811
@ potatis_invalid: Maybe not to you, but to most people $4.00 for a regular comic book is a lot, especially if you grew up buying them at well below $1.00 each!

@ Urby: Whoa!,....that steam punk themed Disney stuff is news to me. Oh man, those pics look like something out of a nightmare from movie director Tim Burton! Nice find.

Okay then, I understand now.

If Disney really want to improve Marvel, they can start by lowering those damn high cover prices across the board on their printed comics. That "$3.99" shit per issue is just to high. I remember when they hit the $1.99 mark years ago, that was when I stopped buying them. That's why these days I do all my comic book reading through the downloadable ".CBR files". Of course, you will need a CBR reader like this free one: http://comical.sourceforge.net/

Wow The_(c)Striker, you just came up with a cool sounding name there.

Anyway, for what I have seen on some of the other major entertainment forums that I visited after this news report broke out, is that people in general seem to be divided on this, while the rest are not sure what to say.

I think this post deserves to be in the forum, after all, it affects the entertainment industry as a whole, including gaming:

Anybody here thinks this is a good idea? To me, I just can't picture Marvel Comics as a Disney product. I can already see the Punisher as one of the "offending characters" that the Disney executives would want to get rid of.

Of course.

I suppose to help stand out from the Valve clan crowd, Empyreanguard.com has decided to go with a unique niche, it being the Christian gamer, so only time will tell if it pays out, so let's see what happens. I get what you are saying and I agree on principal, Strider. But the thing is, the bosses at WB & DC have a different take on what the naming logic is for the new Batman movie, and for all the different names I have heard coming out of Comic Con, "untitled THIRD Batman film" is not one of them. Now, one other name that is getting a lot of push from DC Comics, is "Gotham Knight", which not surprisingly was the name of a special edition Batman comic from some years ago. Personally, I don't really care what they call the movie, has long as it is made, and made as good if not better that the previous one.

"Dark Knight 2" is just the damn "working" or "standby" title until the movie studio eventually comes up with the real name. If the last movie was called "Dark Knight" and the name of it's new sequel it's still unknown or has not officially been given one yet, then in the meantime (and just for now), the sequential logic is followed by giving it the "Dark Knight 2" name, until of course it gets replaced by whatever name the studio comes up with. Besides, the "Dark Knight 2" title was one of the names being thrown around by Warner Brothers and DC Comics executives as a potential final name at the last Comic Con. Man, some of you better hope it never actually ends up being named "Dark Knight 2" for real, somebody is going to end up looking dumb as shit!

As much as I am looking forward to all those Marvel movies in the production pipe line, don't forget that there's also some DC comics live action movies in the works too! Among them: Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Superman reboot, Dark Knight 2 and a few others all leading to the Justice League movie! You can keep up on all of this by checking out www.superherohype.com every once in a while. Now, there's one particular comic book movie coming out that I am really looking forward to see: Kick-Ass!....

Now, the movie is still in production, so it's too early to say how it is really going to be, but I can tell you that the ongoing Kick-Ass comic book series is one heck of a good read! And it's one of the most violent and bloody comics ever, so it should be interesting to see how the movie turns out. in Processor Bus Speed Post #271990
An overclocked CPU or GPU is pretty much like a Cheetah. In the case of the Cheetah, it has a reputed running top speed of 70mph. But it can only maintain that amazing land speed for a short, 2 minute sprint, due to the fact that the Cheetah will get highly exhausted and quickly loose stamina to maintain that speed.

Well, the same way an overclocked PC will give you an initial speed performance boost while in use, but at a price. The more overclocked the PC is, the faster it will heat up, the sooner it's start loosing it's speed, which could lead to system overheat, which could lead to total system failure. That's why overclocked PCs are usually loaded with extra cooling fans, but even that has it's limits.

Oh yea, to make matters worst, many PC components manufactures will void the warranty on any of their products that get overclocked. Now, I am not really saying you can't or should overclock your PC, all I 'm saying is to be carefull on how much you overclock any given component.

But above all, keep an eye on the heat index, and if you see it rising quickly, just be ready to shut down your PC and to give it a few hours to cool off. I myself have an overclocked laptop for 7 years now without any overheat problems. It's all about using your head, that's all.

EDIT: But in the end, if you are not sure or have doubts about overclocking, then by all means take Penguinboy's tip and don't overclock, it's the safer bet.

socialism has nothing to do with privacy or security issues.
You are right, socialism has nothing to do with privacy. That's because in socialist countries like China, North Korea, Cuba and a few others, there is very little or no privacy rights to speak of, so therefore "privacy" is not even an issue to talk about as far as socialism is concern.
Not only is Obama not a socialist

The movie is catered mostly towards an American audience, the conservative side of it, since it's most likely to piss off many of the liberals. It's definitely an acquired taste to like this movie, not everybody would like it's underlying message and it's slapstick type comedy. All you got to do is read the comments on YouTube for the trailer, and see the battle of differences.

Ah yes, good'ol snoop.com, it's been a while I have not heard from them. Let's see, that report was written by a Barbara Mikkelson, founder and co-owner (with her husband) of snoop.com.

The problem I have with snoop.com is that this whole site is really the point of view of just one person, an angry woman with an obvious far left liberal agenda called Barbara Mikkelson. Nothing ever gets published on snoop.com if it contradicts her preconceived views on the subject. It's her way, or the high way. Even here co-owning husband has to agree with her. No, snoop.com wont do.

I rather hear from a true, multi member investigating committee composed from unbiased points of view. That's why I like the Myth Busters TV show, they actually go out of their way to investigate and test stuff, not just debunk out of their asses like others do.

I know this piece of text block is kind of big for the forum, but it really fits in with the topic at hand, but above all...it really puts you to think about things in general with an interesting twist. The following story is somewhat old, some of you might have heard of it. A long time ago, while a student, Albert Einstein humiliated his atheist professor at his own game:
A University professor at a well known institution of higher learning challenged his students with this question. "Did God create everything that exists?"

A student bravely replied, "Yes he did!"

"God created everything?" The professor asked.

"Yes sir, he certainly did," the student replied.

The professor answered, "If God created everything; then God created evil. And, since evil exists, and according to the principle that our works define who we are, then we can assume God is evil."

The student became quiet and did not answer the professor's hypothetical definition. The professor, quite pleased with himself, boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, "May I ask you a question, professor?"

"Of course", replied the professor.

The student stood up and asked, "Professor, does cold exist?"

"What kind of question is this? Of course it exists. Have you never been cold?"

The other students snickered at the young man's question.

The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat. Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-460 F) is the total absence of heat; and all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat."

The student continued, "Professor, does darkness exist?"

The professor responded, "Of course it does."

The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact, we can use Newton's prism to break white light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of each color.

You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn't this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present."

Finally the young man asked the professor, "Sir, does evil exist?"

Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course, as I have already said. We see it everyday. It is in the daily examples of man's Inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil.

To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist, sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat, or the darkness that comes when there is no light."

The professor sat down.

The young man's name - Albert Einstein

Well, there's always this:
And God went on to say: ?Let the earth put forth living souls according to their kinds, domestic animal and moving animal and wild beast of the earth according to its kind.? And it came to be so. And God proceeded to make the wild beast of the earth according to its kind and the domestic animal according to its kind and every moving animal of the ground according to its kind. And God got to see that it was good.

Genesis, chapter 1, verses 24 and 25
But of course, I am sure this will not sit right with some of the atheists here.

If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. It's hilarious.
I too used to watch Penn & Teller: Bullshit!, and I think they had some good points on some of the subjects they brought up. But now, they seem to have gone off the deep end on some of the latest subjects they are choosing, and for that, I am watching them a lot less than usual.

These are just some of the things they have been talking about against, and just plain trying to debunk (remember, these are mainstream values):

The Bible
Recycling
Family Values
College
Endangered Species
Love for one's pets

Now, I am not saying that everything they say is bad, no...many times they have some good points of view on important subjects. But I really believe one should never trust everything they say all the time, after all, they do have their own personal agendas.

Google Video has to be the most useless service Google has ever conceived.
Google Video is just one of many failures, most of them died at the experimental stage, or beta. One of the more visible failures they had some time ago, was their attempt at a 3D chat platform called "Lively", which you can read more about this here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Lively

Another possible failure: Some industry experts are saying that Google's Android cell phone operating system can yet still fail as a viable alternative to Apple's iPhone, Microsoft's Windows Mobile and Blackberry, if it does not gain enough market share by the time 2010 rolls in, but that's something yet to be seen.
Where are they now?

Wow... Valve will sue, that is major copyright infingement.
I would have to agree with TheGrimReafer:
I dont think valve will have the grounds to sue them. Its similiar, but not directly like TF2.
Valve has the up-hill burden of trying to prove something was stolen from them with very little evidence, if at all any. And most likely they know that, so I doubt they will spend a small fortune in legal fees trying to bring this case to court, a court that for sure will be a Korean one, and which I can practically guarantee will rule against an American company like Valve. Us Americans are not too popular in Korea these days.

Amazon's Kindle screen is completely different than LCD, it is actually more advance in how it displays images, but especially text. The screen technology that the Kindle uses is called "e-ink", and it is a relatively new technology compared to LCD. It is so new in fact, they are still working on a color version of e-ink. E-ink screens are also thinner than LCD's.

Ziff Davis Media also publish a bunch of different magazines having to do with the information technology and gaming industries. The websites and magazines they own are too numerous for me to list here, but to make a long story short, the big and mighty Ziff Davis Media empire filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in order to restructure its debt and operations back in March 2008. As part of this, they sold some of their sites which include the following:

1UP.com
GameTab.com
GameVideos.com
MyCheats.com
FileFront.com

Like you can see, FileFront was one of the sites sold, but apparently the original founders of FileFront decided they wanted their old site back, so they bought FileFront back from Ziff Davis Media. Now, there is a little strange twist to this story which you can read here: http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:2t407dWLJFkJ:farewell.filefront.com/+Filefront&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk
