I have no idea why some lasers give damage and the others not. Probably a bug in the code.

Try using env_beams instead. their beams move much smoother.

in Laser problem Post #252956
You're not triggering the lasers. You have a button which targets a multmanager (named manager1), but this entity doesn't exist, so nothing is triggered. Hit Alt+P and you'll see that manager1 is a target that doesn't exist.

Also, i hope you're gonna work on your architecture and texture allignment, cuz it really looks bad. No offence.

You probably have to rename your texture(s). You say your texture is an animated texture, so, rename your textures so that Half-Life recognizes it as an animated texture (+0). See a couple of posts up.

All the animated textures in halflife.wad have "~"'s. To me it looks like this is a required character. Don't know for sure.

No potatis, you're wrong.

Texers starting with "-" are random tiling textures.

Texers starting with "+A~" are toggleable (when you usekey it). To make a texture toggleable, you need two version of your texture: an on and off state. The off version should start with "+A~", the on version should start with "+0~"

If you want a texture to animate, name the first texture "+0~", the second "+1~", the third "+2~" etc. There's a maximum of 9 individual frames. "+9~" is the final frame.

If you use my Compilator, all you have to do is specify the location of your custom wad file. When you compile, the wad is compiled into the bsp.

in .wad problems Post #252908
If you've made a custom wad, put it in your mod directory. For CounterStrike, put it in cstrike, for singleplayer Half-Life or Half-Life Deathmatch, put it in valve, for Day of Defeat, put it in dod, etc. Don't put the wad anywhere else, the game/mod will only look in its own mod folder.

Make sure you wadinclude your custom wad when you release your map to the public.

If you wadinclude from the beginning, it doesn't matter where you've placed the wad file, as HL will read the custom textures from within the compiled bsp file. Hope that makes sence.

Moocow is correct. I suggest you use a scripted_sequence to place Barney in an idle animation position. A good one would be the guard idle animation. Use Jed's Half-Life Model Viewer to find the correct animation.

You're making a map for HL2DM. HL2DM doesn't support HDR lighting, so the $hdrbasetexture variable is invalid for the used skybox texture.

You can ignore that message.

Hmm, just tried it myself and noticed that the default shortcut, Ctrl+Shift+S doesn't work. But anything else does. Try a different shortcut key combo, Ctrl+Shift+A for example, or whatever.

Edit: after trying many different combo's, Ctrl+Shift+S now all of a sudden does work.

Weird... Ill look into it.

Edit2: it seems that the shortcut doesn't work as soon as the app is started. It'll work again if you type in a different key.

Im sorry for the inconvenience.

Edit3: Shortcut issues fixed.

Get version 1.0.2 from the first post.

DO NOT USE THE CHECK FOR UPDATES FEATURE IN VERSION 1.0.2!
i've made modifications to the check for updates code in V 1.0.3 which made the check for updates code in V 1.0.2 incompatible. Once V 1.0.4 is out, you can use the check for updates button in V 1.0.3.

Pep, the shortcut only works when the application is moved into the system tray. Click the Send to Tray button to send it to the system tray.

Next version will not close itself when you launch a map.

A TWHL toolkit would be awesome!

in Help with brush lighting Post #252491
Depending on how you compile your map (with Hammer's built-in compiler, Nem's Batch Compiler or my Compilator) you probably didn't specify the full path to the lights/valve.rad file. This file contains all the textures that should emit light.

If you tell HLRAD where it can find the rad file, your texture lights should hopefully emit light ingame.

To turn on hibernate, folow these steps:

1. Rightclick on your desktop and choose properties
2. Click the Screensaver tab.
3. Click the Energy/Power button. This opens a new dialog.
4. Click the hibernate tab, and check the checkbox.

Now, when you click Start, Shutdown, you can click the new button.

I don't know how to make your computer to exit hibernate. Maybe there's a function in vb.NET that is fired when you exit hibernate. Then it would be possible to play some music or something.

in why not clipping? Post #252249
sorry everyone, but clipping owns the shit out of vertexing.
No it doesn't. You're just saying that because you don't know the hazards that comes with vertex manipulating. You probably created an invalid shape and thats why you get that weird face when you move the camera around. If you hit Alt+P, Hammer should give you an invalid solid structure error.

See if you understand this:
User posted image
The second brush is a concave brush and thus invalid. If you absolutely need a shape like that, you'll have to use two seperate brush (brush 3).

Check out our vertex manipulatiion tutorials to learn more about it.

The clipping tool is usually used to cut brushes, not to make complex shapes, as it creates off-grid vertices which is bad for the overall performance of your map.

Maby also add a few standard commands like god mode or noclip mode? Or GL_wireframe 2 and r_speeds 1?
Even better: ill make those commands toggleble. For example: you check the Noclip checkbox and a small textbox is enabled. You type in the letter N in that textbox and N will be your noclip toggle key.

Well, you can delete that beta version as this version has a whole lot more to offer. Check the readme.txt file or click the Help button in the app for more information and to find more features.

You can use my Registry Cleaner tool to clean up the Registry keys that the beta version of my Half-Life launcher created (if you can't do it manually).

Half-Life Launch Pad
Development thread

---------------------------------------

What is Half-Life Launch Pad?

Half-Life Launch Pad is an application to ease the process of loading mods and maps for Source and GoldSource. Supported games are:

WON Half-Life and mods
Steam Half-Life and mods
Source Games
Source Mods
(Stand alone games like Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat and Team Fortress Classic are not (yet) supported)

---------------------------------------

What are its features?
  • WON Half-Life, Steam Half-Life, Source and SourceMods support
  • Filter support
  • Launch a map in DeathMatch mode by checking the DeathMatch mode checkbox (WON & Steam HL only)
  • Launches any mod/map installed on your system (note: does not read from PAK/GCF files!)
  • Launch a mod/map by simply doublecliking the mapname in the list
  • Can be send to the system tray. From there you can launch a mod/map by richtclicking on the tray icon and select a map from the contextmenu
  • From the system tray, you also launch the game/mod without a map. This will bring you to the main menu of the game/mod
  • Monitors paths and updates the list on the fly when it detects a change in directoryname or filename or when a directory of file is created or deleted
  • Check for updates
  • No longer uses the Windows Registry to store application settings (Except for the Start With Windows option)
  • Start with Windows
---------------------------------------

Current Version

The current version is 1.0.0.51, Released July 24, 2012.

Downloads

Half-Life Launch Pad 1.0.0.51

IMPORTANT! You need to have the .NET Framework 2.0 installed before you can run it. HLLP won't run without it. Get the Framework 2.0 package here.
The two dll files that come with the download are required by the application. Without them, the application won't run.

---------------------------------------

Known issues and bugs in the current version

Launching a map from a Source mod does not seem to work, it'll only bring you to the menu screen of the mod.

---------------------------------------

Final notes

I'd like to thank Archie for his launch button and Captain Terror for his excessive testing of my software. Thanks to him, tons of bugs and glitches have been eliminated. Thanks man!
We all know that bug-free software doesn't exist, so if you still find any bugs, please post them in this thread, or e-mail me. This is very important to me.
If you just want to tell me what you think of my application, please do so, it's greatly appreciated!

I hope you find my software useful. :combine:

in Computer Stats to use Source SDK? Post #252141
oh, that is a common problem with hammer. just go to
view > go to co-ordinates
(i think it's the view menu)
and enter in "0 0 0" without quotes.
Or simply click the Camera Tool, and draw a line in one of the three grid windows (Top View is recommended). If you still don't see anything, the camera is probably looking away from your brush(es). Simple move around in the camera window until you see something or draw a new line and make it look at your brushwork.

I hope that makes sense. :P

How do you uninstall your drivers? Its recommended that you use the provided catalyst_uninstaller utility (I don't know the exact filename though, look for a file with uninstall in its filename).

So use that, then try to install the drivers i provided in the other thread.
