6:15 am sharp - hearing my son calling "Dad!" or "Mom!" from his room.

6:20 am - change his diaper and help him put on his clothes

6:30 am - wrap him up in his favorite blanket and carry him to the living room and heat up a warm cup of milk for him

6:40 am - make a bowl of cereal for myself

7:00 am - feed him a bowl of oat meal, yogurt with freshly cut strawberries with sliced bananas

7:15 am - get ready to take him to preschool (get his lunch ready, and put on socks)

7:30 am - drop him off at preschool

in Portal 2 is out Post #294133
I just finished Portal 2 this morning. Scott woke up unusually late (8:40 am or so), so I had a rare opportunity to play in the morning.

It's a great game. I was worried that the sequel would not live up to its high expectation, especially because the first Portal was such a surprise breakout hit.

But it's every bit as good as the first one, and in many respect, surpassing the original game.

So cleverly designed.

The ending was epic.

I only got stuck once by one of the puzzles. Perhaps it was getting too late at night, but I was exhausted and frustrated, and I Googled for the solution.

Shame on me.

So I am not the only one who finds himself staring at the shadows on the wall like a befuddled idiot.

And the ceilings . . . don't forget to look up. The ceilings are so much more interesting than the sterile and flat ceilings of the original Portal.

Once again, incredibly beautiful levels.

I think GTX 460 is overkill for you.

If you still have a CPU that is several generations old and paltry memory, why install a fast GPU to pair with the older hardwares?

A GTX 260 is the most economical way to upgrade an older system.

I have a GTX 460, but it's combined with a Core i7 and 8 GB of memory.

The latest generation of GPU is GTX 580, and that's top of the line.

I started the download around 10 pm last night, and by the time I got up this morning at 6 am, the download was long complete.

I loaded up the game briefly this morning just to make sure it works, and it does.

The annoying thing is that it prompts me to log into the Social Club every time I start the game. I don't plan to play multiplayer, but I still need to cancel the login every time. How annoying.

I ordered my latest build from Newegg on Friday, and I built it yesterday afternoon (in three hours, while my son napped).

It cost just over US$1,000 And it's pretty fast.

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL

$89.99

OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SSD for $230

I saved money by getting a good deal for the GTX 460 and using the stock CPU fan and cooler. The temperature is just fine (29 Celsius) under normal use. I think spending $100 on a CPU cooler is just crazy.

Put the money toward a larger SSD, and ditch the magnetic HDD.

It seems like a pretty simple question, but I can't find a definitely answer.

Can my old Athlon Barton chip run Windows 7 64-bit? Does AMD Athlon 3200+ support a 64-bit OS?

The reason I am asking is that my old computer's HDD failed, so I bought a SSD for it (so I can re-use the SSD in my next build). I have to buy an OS also because I don't have the Windows XP installation disks anymore. Besides, I would like to migrate to Windows 7 instead of staying with Windows XP.

I accidentally purchased Windows 7 64-bit from Newegg without considering whether my Athlon Barton can run it.

I would go for the 870. I think you get the biggest bang for your buck with it.

Performance-wise, there is not a big difference between dual-channel and triple-channel.

Plus, you get to save some more money with a 1156 mobo.

I believe the sweet price-performance spot for SSD now is around 128 GB.

I plan to buy one 128 GB SSD for my next computer, and buy a second one when the price drops further two years later.

This way, you can put all of your programs on the SSD, and use the magnetic drive for storing files only. Running games and other programs off of a SSD would dramatically improve performance/load time.

I have been involved in a project for almost a year. I have not mentioned it to anyone because it is a secret project that cannot be disclosed publicly yet.

While I cannot go into the details of the project, we are recruiting experienced mappers for Counter-Strike: Source. Any existing CSS maps would be a great asset, and anyone who can prove that his maps are worthy will be paid based on an hourly rate (about US$20 per hour).

There are a lot of CSS mappers out there, but many of them are not making maps of professional quality. We are looking for mappers who can generate maps that are close to the quality of official maps from Valve.

If anyone is interested, you can either PM me or post it in this thread.

School grades are highly correlated to work performance. That's why academic matters.

Poor school performance means (1)poor attention span; (2)lack of motivation; (3)lack of intellect; (4)so many social/home distractions that one cannot focus.

Any of those conditions lead to poor work performance. This is why companies and bosses prefer hiring someone who has stellar academic record.

Back in college, I got one B+ in four years. The rest were A's or A+'s.

I even like the puzzles in HL and HL2. I think they're not too difficult (like the ones in the Myst series, which are virtually impossible), yet they're satisfying when you figure it out.

I am a specialist who sees children with ADHD. I can tell that children with ADHD are clearly intelligent when they can beat a game in one day. But these children are often failing academically because of poor attention span.

However, if children are motivated by computer games to further their education, I am all for that.

All I know is that making a good game requires a lot of planning, academic knowledge, not to mention creativity. All these things are attributes to make a person successful.
