I actually just got this song. I'm surprised at how long it took me to get the actual song.

Dave you're thinking of detail textures. 512x512 textures have long since been the engine's limit.

in dm_cliff Post #230565
You should really convert the textures yourself(No offense Rim). Rimrook's set is so low res, I don't understand why you didn't just go all the way and use the original 512^2 textures.

in Map WIP - Skytower Post #230557
I thought just the overall size of the tower would draw attention to the top. It constitutes about a third of the map :|

I tried improving the hole in the tower. Its not much, but it looks better than before. Stained glass and a giant glowing ball are out of the question, by the way.
http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/2598/dmskytower0023qh4.jpg
That pink glow is mostly env_glows, not light. The clearer your angle is to the hole, the brighter the aura gets. I like it.
Not really worth showing, but for the sake of clarification, here's the inside of the hole:
http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/9907/dmskytower0024qi5.jpg
I've got a nice pink pink pink sound playing inside it, like tiny ricochets.

As for the grass, I don't know what to do about it. I completely agree, its too flat, but the reason its there in the first place is because I wanted to break up the seemingly overused tile texture. I really didn't know what I was going to do with it in the first place :(

in Map WIP - Skytower Post #230462
If you've been follwing my journal then odds are you already know about this map. I'm brining out of my journal and into a thread so that I can get some better feedback on it.

After an extremely long period of "mapper's block" I've finally begun a surefire project(no really, this one's being finished). After this, I've got an idea for my first full Source map, but that's another story.
Skytower (a working title, and will definitely be changed before the release) has been in the back of my mind for a long, long time. When I downloaded Rimrook's Sunden map, I discovered how perfectly the textures fit with this map I'd been wanting to make. So I began work.

Screenshots. Its a very blue map:
http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/9109/dmskytower0015eo8.jpg
http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/6962/dmskytower0016sg6.jpg
^That blue circle heals you when you fall through it.
http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/5762/dmskytower0022ka7.jpg

Gameplay focuses on a circulation from the top of the tower to the bottom, with various ways to get from point A to point B.
As of now, I'm done with the brushwork and am working on entity placement and atmosphere. But if you see something that could use some tweaking then tlel me. that's why I posted the thread in the first place.

in Beautiful light that I don't want Post #230281
Well I found out exactly why skylight does this, and now I feel like I should have known this years ago.
If nothing stands between you and the light, then you are lit up with that direct, volumetric effect. Otherwise, if a world brush stands between you and the sky, you take on the light from the world beneath you. And when I talk aout something being between you and the light, it only needs to be between you and the light's yaw. The pitch has nothing to do with this.
So basically I'm up shit creek here, since I obviously can't just slap a giant word brush up on the left part of my map. If ou have any ideas, please do tell.

Perfect dark did have some of the best weapons..

1. N-Bomb -- The black whole grenade

2. Laptop gun -- Converts into a sentry gun, kickass.

3. The Dragon.. -- Machine gun/Proximity mine, you would throw it and then the enemies would go to pick it up.. boom

4. The Reaper.. -- Horribly inaccurate laser spray/grinder.. sometimes usefull

5. The Farsight -- That weapon that had the x-ray view to fire/kill people through walls

6. Psychosis Gun -- The injector that could be set to "lethal injection", or you could inject enemies with something that would make them fight people for you.. usefull
What's that you say? The Pancor Jackhammer is the best weapon of all time? Why yes, I was thinking the same thing!

-Noskyfix didn't do the trick. But here's something to think about:
http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/1143/dmskytower0013kx6.jpg
^Here I am standing at the bottom of a ramp. This is the only place I know of in the map where models are lit uniformly the way I want. The light_environment shines from the right to the left, which essentially puts me in a sort of pseudo shadow there because of the ramp's height and the light's angle. There is no shadow on the world, but the direct model light isn't happening here.

http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/253/dmskytower0014uv9.jpg
^Now I'm at the top of the same hill, facing the same direction. As you can see, the problem is back now that I'm standing right in the light.

My friend says all you guys who havnt had a girlfriend are sad.
Ok give me a fucking break here? At your age there is a miniscule chance that you actually understand love, so what does it mean if you've had a girlfriend at this point in your life? What is the point of having a girlfriend at that point? For "practice"? No, no.
I don't believe in dating for practice. You shouldn't have to practice to be ready to spend the rest of your life with someone. The person who you spend the rest of your life with should require no past experience, it should only require an open mind, and open heart, and a truthful knowledge of yourself, because that's the kind of person most people want to be with. It should come naturally.
Now meeting that person in the first place is obviously a different story, but you shouldn't need practice walking up to people. That should come along with a healthy social life.
Granted you're more than likely not going to meet that certain someone on your first date, I never said that you would or should try to. I'm just saying that, until you are truly looking for someone to spend the rest of your lif with, you shouldn't bother wasting your or her time.

in Beautiful light that I don't want Post #229974
Those kooky light_environments, always bringing up trouble.
The light_environment I have set up in my project is doing something that would normally be considered desireable, only I don't want it to be doing what its doing. What's happening is the light_environment is lighting models directly, instead of the models being lit uniformly in correspodndence to how the world is lit beneath them. Here's 3000 words to explain what I mean. You'll know it when you see it:
http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/742/case1oy8.jpg
http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/5741/case2zs7.jpg
http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/584/case3ar0.jpg
When the light does this, it overrides any shadows and/or pointlights that fall in the light. This is a bit of a problem because my project is pretty heavy on both, so I keep running into shadows or point lights without any visible change in the lighting on my weapon.
The light_environment is at a 15 degree yaw with a pitch of -40(but have tried -30, -45, -75, and 320), and uses default ZHLT values for fade and falloff. I've screwed around with RAD settings to no end, but they haven't fixed anything. My current settings are +extra, bounce 2(but have tried 0 and 1), smooth 180(but have tried 50).
