Someone mentioned the weapon in FEAR that burns the flesh of people, leaving only a smoldering skeleton. I remember frying a guard with that, and the one next to him ran over and said: "Are you okay?!". Good times
The same thing happened to me :D Ahh the great AI of FEAR.
But I can't rail on it, because it really was pretty damn good AI.

If there was a gravity gun in Doom III(which I never finished) then it obviously sucked, because Doom III's physics were atrocious.

Just make(or get) some custom textures and make them an additive func_illusionary with a 255 render amount.
Edit: Or just use an env_sprite :|

The mag charger from Time Splitters 3 was also pretty damn sweet. A full rifle that deployed from a tiny, handheld square that could look and shoot through walls.
Damn, there's too many of them.

If Portal counts, then the ASHPD takes the cake for this one. If not, then the gravity gun gets it.
And just because I want to give it an honorable mention; the type-7 particle weapon form FEAR was pretty great too, mostly because of the awesome disentegration effects that always followed.(fuck the Quake rail gun)

Steyr aug wins in the real weapons department, that's a beautiful gun.

There are roughly 53295728652.54 things that could cause this problem. I'm guessing you did a throrough scan through your compile log for errors.
Do you use a batch compiler or do you compile through Hammer?

I always run full compiles. Always.
Edit: Its a platform, by the way, not a fountain. Just want to clear that up. Plus that makes moving it a little difficult.
I have a hunch it has to do with the way the light is bouncing off the angled face next to it. The yellow patch only shows up on that particular part of the world, and that is the only place where that lighting scenario happens(light bouncing off that particular angle onto a perpendicular surface). Its almost like its creating a reversed shadow, only func_walling it doesn't fix it.

Func_walling it was the first thing I tried. Doesn't change a thing.

Not the face splitting, dammit. The face splitting is just showing up because of the fucked up patch of yellow light.

Hai guyz, I gots me a air-roar. I've never seen this error before but the simplicity of the error makes me think that it isn't an uncommon one. Unfortunately I wasn't exactly sure what to search for, so I couldn't find jack on it.

That little patch of yellow light is bugging me. At the time of the screenshot I had one light in this map, the light_environment, and its blue. I'm running default RAD settings except for the bounce, which is set at 2. There are no errors in the compile log.
Why and how is it that yellow patch there, and how do I get rid of it.

Architecture can easily be "overrun" with good atmosphere, in my opinion. The map looks great, but the epoly has to be ridiculous.

Where is that? it doesn't look like it fits with the 6D theme.

in Sun/Shadow Effect (lighting) Post #229097
Srry: Most likely. I've never mapped more than one continuous SP map with differently colored light_spots for the sky in each. But the likelyhood of that scenario in SP is so slim, whereas with multiplayer you are prety much guaranteed that scenario.
And you're right in saying that a light_spot delivers higher lighting quality than a normal light_environment, because a light_spot applies model lighting relevant to the light's position(as opposed to just taking the light level of the world under it) and its not so uniform. But if the lighting is all off in the first place ecause of something as simple as a map change, that special lighting doesn't look so special, you know?
Posted 17 years ago2007-07-16 02:49:11 UTC
in Sun/Shadow Effect (lighting) Post #229093
Never use a light_spot to light the sky, use light_environment instead. A light_spot will light any models(and is especially noticeable on view models) with the sky lighting from the previous map played. This can cause series visual issues, especially if you just finished playing a map with green lighting(IE Xen), and your map is supposed to have white light.
with You probably haven't caught this yet because you haven't seen your map in a map cycle.

Filefront, you'll get faster downloads and a bunch of other features if you do.
Either way, the bottom line is that, to download period, Fileplanet requires you to register while Filefront doesn't and both offer about the same download speed for non-paying downloaders.
