As an alternative to the methods above you can also use RESGen to list your used wads/gfx/models/etc, and hitting ALT-P (check for problems) in hammer will give you an error for every missing texture.

ya all my program files are on d drive, tho i might take this opportunity to upgrade to 7..

edit: i got regedit working again by running a vbs script called reg_enable found on one of the multiple webpages describing how to disable/enable regedit. i used a third-party registry editor called "RegScanner" before that to search/delete/modify keys.

got my folder options back by editing this registry entry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

and changing the value from "0" to "1". It seems like most of the problems this fucker caused are registry based. i'm learning way more about the registry today than i ever cared to in a lifetime..

Fixed "invisible" tray icons by running "sfc /scannow" at the CMD prompt as administrator! =)

Still fucked up:
-GPedit is still gone
-Avast Antivirus is still fucked up and won't update or run in resident
-Other programs still refuse to update and timeout when you start the updating process
-occasionally i have to reboot to be able to browse the internet with google or ie. (i can still ping websites and run things like steam online, but the browsers are blocked somehow....

fuck my life......

Ok. At approximately 3pm, i was kicked in the nuts by a piece of rougue security software called AntiMalware Doctor whilst searching for a no-cd crack for Battlefront II.

This thing blankets your screen with popups pestering you to buy the "full version" of AntiMalware doctor, whilst infecting your system in multiple ways and actively preventing your outlets to stop it. Among the casualties:
  • Your Antivirus resident protection and the ability to update
  • taskmanager
  • revokes administrator privileges
  • regedit
  • gpedit
  • folder options(it sets file extentions to invisible and then borks folder options so you can't change it back)
  • taskbar icons still there, but invisible
  • stops most programs from connecting to the internet for updating
  • god knows what else
Since then, i have been methodically try fixes and unsuccessfully trying to get my system back to normal. I stopped the popups and the main program almost immediately after it happened by following instructions on this site, and have ever since trying to get my system back to normal.

Why am i telling you this now? i would advise everyone to update your antivirus/antimalware software, and perform a full backup of your system (if you have the means).

This fucking malware has wasted my entire day, and i have no idea if i'll be able to fix everything, or if the infection is completely gone, which will probably prompt me to reinstall everything... What a pain in the cock....

If anyone has some helpful hints to fix the aforementioned troubles, most of which are still not fixed, i would be greatly appreciative!

That said tho i think i have enough done that i can finish it by the deadline. Plus, work really kicked my ass the later part of this month, but if Zeeba can finish all those maps with his schedule, i guess none of us have a real excuse not to be finished.

in Very strange lighting glitches - Only wi Post #284487
i've found all the zhlt light flags buggy and non-useful. They end up creating more problems than they fix.. =(

You can however tweak your lighting in subtle ways like using null-textured func_illusionaries to cast shadows, and other things that i'm sure i'm unaware of. You could also experiment between using textlights/pointlights/spotlights, as they all behave differently with how they cast shadows.

There is also the Translucent texture, that may be able to help you in certain situations, since it is like a func_illusionary as a world brush, and it blocks vis so it also blocks lighting and shadows..

hope helps! =)

An alternative to the arch tool:
User posted image
1. Make a cube, an scale it to the desired outside diamater of your pipe.

2. Texture it with something circular as a guide. (type in "gear" without quotes and a bunch of circular textures will come up) i used c3a1_gear1. Apply the texture to one face and click "fit" button.

3. Clip the brush down the center up and down, so you have four equal pieces. delete all but 1 chunk.

4. using the texture as a guide, use the clip tool to approximate curve and thickness of the pipe.

NOTE: You may have to lower the grid size (using the [ and ] bracket keys) to be able to VM or clip to the desired shapes.

5. Clip again into 4 sections.

6. Use vertex manipulation to move create your desired hollow-cylindrical pieces.

7. Clone (SHIFT-drag) your completed section so you have 2 of them. Now, you have a choice to Use CTRL-L, CTRL-I (mirror x and y) or SHIFT-rotate the sections to make a complete cylinder.

My cylinder is not as perfect as Atom's, but it teaches you how to use important tools in hammer. Plus, with a little effort on your part, you can make it almost exactly as good as Atom's example.

download example

Atom: i've never ever used the arch tool. does it give you vertices off grid?

looks very valve-ish, ingsoc
I couldn't agree more but it still looks great! Remember, valves original work (goldsource) is very basic and undetailed for the most part, partially because of what the common pc could comfortably render at the time.

With today's much higher average computing power, you can afford to add TONS more detail, reduced texture scales, etc. to your map, and still have good fps.

Really nice stuff though for sure.

Are your tools, steam, and hammer files all on the same partition? Mine aren't and they work, but i've heard of others having trouble with that.

idk double-check all your information under game configurations and build programs. This looks like a incorrect path error. post your configuration screens if you want.

I would also highly recommend this tutorial by Seventh-Monkey, in particular, the last bit about using the SUBST command for simplifying your paths.

in Multimanger and loop Post #283852
Hi!

I'm having a multimanager "call itself" at the end of the sequence to make a loop(or at least i'm trying). here's the breakdown:

MM1(multimanager with "multithreaded" flag checked)
mm2a - 60.0
mm2b - 120.0
mm2c - 180.0
mm2d - 240.0
mm2e - 300.0
mm2f - 360.0
mm2e - 420.0
mm2f - 480.0
mm2g - 540.0
mm2h - 600.0
mm1 - 600.00

(each "mm2" is a multimanager targeting 2 env_renders simultaneouly)

So when i trigger mm1, everything runs perfectly, but it never loops after mm2h fires like it's supossed to. i have "multithreaded" flag checked.

Yes maybe there is! if you can changelevels the way rim did in cubicles without binding a key, that might be the answer!

I wish that is how all level changes were handled in half-life.. it would be SO much simpler/better. The only problem i can think of is damage and items won't be carried from one level to the next afaik.
