If only i could SELECT ANYTHING in the 3D window! Selecting a face in the 3D window while in Texture Application Tool doesn't do anything either!
Only Joost knows why it stopped working... Argh.

Unfortunatelly these junks goes there with the bsp
In fact, no. The only file that goes into the output folder, like the .bsp, is the .pts file, which is used to find leaks.

All the other files created by the compile tools, like, prt, lin, p0, p1, p2 and what not, is left behind the .map folder (the folder where you export the .map file from withing Hammer).

in Mapping for CSS without having it Post #243430
HL2DM isn't a different engine from CSS.
Im not talking about the actual game, im talking about Hammer.
Imaging this:

1. You start up Hammer for HL2, HL2DM, whatever.
2. You make some brushwork for your upcoming CSS map, just to try out some ideas.
3. Then once you get CSS, simply start Hammer for CSS, load the vmf you've made for HL2, HL2DM (see step 1) and it'll open fine.

Just don't open it a Orange Box version of Hammer, as Hunter pointed out (i never told said you can do that, R1Co did).

Muzz, you really shouldn't give advice like that.
What are you talking about?
A map (vmf file) with only brushwork that was made for HL2DM will load fine in Hammer for CSS.

What's VHE?
You're kidding, right?
VHE = Valve Hammer Editor.

Spike, you can do some brushwork in HL2, HL2DM or any other pre Orange Box Source game that you own, and when you have CSS installed and ready to go, just open the map you made with another Source game in CSS and all should work fine. Don't play with entities yet as some of them may not work in CSS.

That fire really needs more realism.

1. Use a different fire sprite. Use this one instead:
User posted image
Spritename is xffloor.spr.
2. Add some pulsing light entities(with orange color) to make the fire light up the world around it.
3. Add a fire sound (if you have'nt allready).
4. Some rubble or something. Fire doesn't burn without fuel.

Something is seriously wrong with my Hammer.
Whenever i begin a new map, and make the first brush, im unable to select it by clicking the brush in the 3D window. Reinstalling didn't work.

Wtf?

I would've tried the sphere compo if i could.

Guess its time for a complete re-install of Windows here...

First of all, find the correct forum to post your problem in.
Looks like you're talking about Source mapping, so i moved it to Source Engine Discussion.

Its good to see another Dutch mapper joining TWHL! :)

As for your problem: the Source SDK is a mess, especially mapping for the Orange Box games. Valve should've fixed that about now. So i don't really have a solution for your problem. Try reinstalling the SDK, then don't forget to click the Refresh SDK Content (or something similar) so that SDK is up-to-date (this is a required step).

Are you mapping for the Orange Box games or the pre Orange Box games?

You use the texture application tool to shift, move, rotate, mirror, flip and what not.

Maybe you can post a screenshot of the problem so we can give you step by step instruction on how to get it right.

Make sure you have the correct .fgd file that supports models in Hammer.
Also make sure you extract all the models (from the .pak or .gcf) into the models folder in your mod folder or valve folder, like:

half-lifevalvemodels
half-lifecstrikemodels

Not really sure which one. Try valvemodels, since this is kinda like the base folder for resources.

You want a ban? Don't talk to moderators like that.

Maybe you have a shitty pc that can't handle Steam.
Maybe you have adware, spyware, malware on your pc that you don't know about and THAT is causing all the problems, not steam.

Steam is awesome.

What the.

That works. Wtf. Then how come Nem's Batch Compiler is giving me errors? Isn't it supposed to just compile a map like Hammer only with a more userfriendly interface?

Nem's Batch Compiler now officially fails. It even refuses to compile a map with the Custom Source Tools.

But still, i prefer a batch compiler.

Well, time to work on my Space Shuttle map again...

NOT!

When i compile my map with Nem's Batch Compiler, i get this error when vrad starts:
http://www.themightyatom.nl/screenshots/vrad_error1.jpg

Translation:
vrad.exe - Entrypoint not found

Can't find entrypoint of procedure GetCVarIF in DLL-file vstdlib.dll

When i click OK, the same error pops up again and when i click OK again, vrad stops doing its job and the following error appears:
http://www.themightyatom.nl/screenshots/vrad_error2.jpg

Im using the Ep1 version of the SDK, i just completely reinstalled the SDK and refreshed it.

Whats going on?

I forgot to tell you that i've modified that version. I changed the shortcut keys so i can access every tool in Hammer much quicker. It also has a larger texture display icon.

Here's a link to the unmodified version of Hammer 3.5. Get that, and everything should work the same as it did in 3.4.
