Its actually a lot of fun - HL1 style gibbing, bullet time, ability to kill Civilians, loads of new weapons (you get the Striders cannon, which is a lot of fun, as well as Alyx's handgun [and some other really cool weapons, like a shovel]) and a new melee move for Gordon (Gordon Kick!).

The water brushes inside the well - have you grouped them all as just one func_water, or individually? Not sure if its related to the problem, but try making each water brush a func_water.

Man, that must suck, but I agree with Alex: t'was hasty to format your HDD (at least without trying other things first - booting in Safe Mode to see if a dodgy startup program was causing you grief). At least you'll be prepared if there is a next time.

My ideas were to have a little island in the distance, and some large hills behind the houses on the street - I was also thinking of dotting some buildings on the skybox as well. The skybox needs a lot of work at the moment, but I'm leaving it till last.

Not bad ZL! (I see you used those Hi-Def skins [I think] )

The depth blur you used in some of the shots looks a little strange, especially in the last frame of the last comic (there's a distinct line where its clear and where it blurs - graphics card issue or overuse of depth blur?)

Seriously, is someone actually going to try and make a comic that isn't related to the HL2 universe/ripped off from HLComic? The "silly fun" aspect of the HL2 World works fantastically well for HLComics because its original, but when EVERY single damn comic tries to emulate its humour, it gets annoying.

Think of something new!

Captain P: The map has a long way to go still, but I'd like to test ASAP. There's no CT or T areas at the moment, nor are there any bomb points. If we playtest, it'd only be to get a feel of the map.

Ok fucktard, I'm gonna do something I've never done in the 780 days that I've been a member on this excellent (in most cases) site/community and that's flame the absolute shit out of someone.

How DARE you say that the mods here are incompetent (at least, that's what I think you're saying)? You have absolutely NO IDEA what the moderators and staff here at TWHL do. We do it with no complaining and no reward: we do it for the good of the community. Frankly, I wonder why the hell we should do it at all if we get trash like you here on the site!

I've only ever tried to help people on this site dipshit. I've never flamed, I've tolerated all the bullshit that goes on here, and, God forbid, I've actually had a lot of fun on the site and on IRC. But no, you just had to push me to the edge didn't you? Normally, I'd express disconcern at people leaving TWHL as it is generally a fantastic community, but you can go running with your tail between your legs, you ungrateful prick.

Rightio, I've seen this circus go on for long enough. This is the final warning for EVERYONE, and I do mean EVERYONE. I can't believe how a WIP map can ignite so much crap. You must all be seriously retarded, honestly. Saco, if you can't take criticsm, even if it is harsh and somewhat silly, then maybe you should reconsider doing mapping at all. To the rest of you: think if you received the comments before you post them. I'm not saying say its lovely and fantastic when its not (and it clearly isn't), but just sugar coat it A BIT.

(Subject to name change by the way)

I've been (somewhat) quietly beavering away at this map for a few weeks now, helped mainly by the efforts of those on IRC (particularly Trapt who has agreed to compile the map and take screenshots).

This is my first foray into the world of Counter-Strike mapping (and will probably end up being my first released Source map, if something doesn't beat it, which I doubt).

This map is mostly inspired by the city of Venice, Italy. I've used very little reference photography (which is really biting me in the arse now): one or two pics, plus a scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

You can find the most recent screenies here. I don't normally do this, but I'm afraid that the map may be a little boring in its current incarnation. Unfortunately, the shots in the gallery are not indicative of the current version as I've not been able to get new shots just yet. I will update this thread when I have the new shots. Because of this, a lot of stuff you may mention may have been addressed.

Try the following:

1. Right-click the SDK icon in the Steam menu and select Properties. From here: Local files > "Verify integrity of game cache..."

2. Load the SDK itself. Load the item "Refresh SDK Content" and wait for it to do so.

3. Load the item "Reset Game Configurations".

If that doesn't work, then I have no idea what you can do. Sorry.

And a CS:S one please. ;)

Better yet, just alternate the games. I'm sure it'd be relatively simple to setup a roster here on TWHL to tell you what game is on. It'd work on a week by week rotational system (i.e. first = HLDM, second = CS, third = HL2DM, fourth = CS:S, etc)

in Compiling Issues Post #150807
"Token too large".
This can refer to several different errors:

1. The "too many wads" as mentioned above. 8 wads in WC/Hammer is a good limit, more may cause this error among others. If you are using more than 8 wads you can use Wally to combine the extra wads into one custom wad.
2. Too long a path/name for the map or compiling tools. Only a limited amount of memory is set aside for the path/names. Solution is to move the compiling tools or map into a shallow folder.
3. Having a space in a path/name. Examples: frequently Program Files is part of the path name. Compiling tools do not like the space between "program" and "files". Solutions are to either use the MSDOS pathname, or to move the offending files from under the spaced folder, or put quotes " " around the whole path name in WC/Hammer so that windows uses it right. If your map has the space in its name (eg. Bob map), remove the space and change it to (Bobmap).

For future reference.

I don't know myself, but there are ways to find out:

1. Google for the Amelie soundtrack. See if you can find a site that lets you sample the tracks
2. Check the credits for Amelie. Right at the end they show the music credits, so if you remember where it appeared in the film, you can trace it down.

Every single Rare game (SNES to Gamecube era) has had some extremly awesome tunes. Remember the Donkey Kong series? The very first level in the first game had the best Jungle music ever. DKC 1, 2, 3, Banjo Kazooie, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye (to an extent) - they all had such fantastic music.

Half-Life 2 also has some great music which really suits the atmosphere. I loved the part when you're being forced to the roof by the civs and when you finally get out the music kicks in and you get this sense of magnitude at what you're looking at: awesome stuff.
