well i was creating my map and i minimized it to go onto IRC and check messages. anyhoo i reopened the map and everything was untextured. i quit and restarted steam. all of my play games listing was ogne including the sdk and all my custom maps/content for steam. I checked the folders and i have nothing. i have "sourcemods" containing nothing. nothing's left...i restarted 4 times and ran ad aware/nortan antivirus. my system is clean and i would do the system restore thing except i'm on windows 2000. The end is near....we can only wait till steam succeeds its evil plan of ruining every computer in existance.:nuts:

You know that black capsule lift at the end of hl2 in the citadel.
How would you set it up to move along a series of func_trains. what props do i use and how do i get it to stand upright. would that require an origin just below the ceiling? :zonked: thanks for any help ;)

you edited the "mapname".txt file.
eg if your map was called de_piranesi you would edit the de_piranesi.txt in the file the bsp is in.

check for leaks when it compiles.
If you don't know how to place one go to the white globe sorta tool on the toolbar. click it and then scroll down/filter out "light". and click on the camera box. move it up so its not in the ground and voila, light.

as usual steam is sh#t.
Long live 1.5 and, offline gaming,seperate shortcuts for each game, clean desktops with only the sound icon, NO UPDATES, full games/map editors released with the first version of the game(that could've been done in the time they had when re-coding the engine because of the leak), running multiple games at once, automatic running of the game upon compile, map editors being distributed on the internet rather than blocking the ppl that want it and giving it to thousands who wont use it, tfc:source!!!, HLDM!!! and the list goes on....

yeh...it works in hl. There is only info_player start, no deathmatch's.
It actually is bigger ingame, in that screenie i'm standing on the fence so it looks small.

I think this is mainly caused by a long vis? try making skys the proper way without just making a hollow cube. Especially if your map is large

;) Hey all. I was wondering if any of you know how to make good textures without using photos? Like im sure they didn't use a photo to make the main textures in the first place? (btw I have both photoshop and paint shop pro 8) I'm sure with one of these you can do it but after hours of mukin around I still can't even make something look metal :| .

Ok i think this has been posted before but after 1 hour searching google and here I couldn't find anythin. You see I have a dedicated server and want my map to run on it for steam. (steam cs) I looked and looked and found you had to make a new txt fie...so i did that and typed in
rcon cyclemapfile mapcycle2. (mapcycle2 being my new txt file that contains fy_base my map,dust,dust 2 and aztec.) now what? it didnt work, you cant votemap or anythin... Anyone ever done this before and can tell me what to do?

ok i've installed the warcraft 3 amx on my comp since i enjoyed playing it i wanted to have it for a lan...Guess what?? well ok i make a map i compile and when it launches cs it comes down with all this [Meta] stuff and near the end it crashes... briliant ain't it?
so what do i do? the logicall thing uninstall...and hammer wont compile maps anymore... thats just f$#%in great isn't it? i click f 9 and go and it sorta flashes gray and nothing happens!!! so what do i do i install again same prob in the beggining... great i can never bloody make a cs map again....F@#$in warcraft :zonked: :x

it might be....check out your map and see if its bad. If you really wanu be persistant or your map does have high R_speeds try editing it smaller in photoshop / paint shop pro 8 :)

I can make textures :) but i was wondering...how do you create the invisible part of a texture? Say I have a leaf and it has a backround on it. I cut around it and so i have my leaf. Now do i just paste it onto the colour blue?
