I started gaming on my mom's 386. I was like ten years old. The most notable games were F1GP - which was the best racing simulator back then, imo - and Retaliator - an awesome, and fucking hard flying simulator. I never managed to land the plane in that game, I even tried it like a year ago, just for the lulz.

Then, I got a NES, which actually wasn't called NES, it's name was Terminator, that was an european remake of the original NES, and looked more like a sega genesis, and the cartridges had the shape of that system aswell. From those games, the one, that I liked the most, was Tennage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Tournament Fighters. Damn, we played that so friggin much with our friends...those afternoons were great.

In the meen time, I was playing on Pentium IIs at school. I remember playing a hellotta Network Q Rac Rally, and Scorcher. The grapics of Scorcher just blew my mind back then...there was even a machine with a 3D Accelerator in it (I don't remember what kind of card it was) and with that - it looked just incredible. Slowly, I was getting back to PC gaming.

I finally got a machine in 2000: Intel Celeron 433, 64 MB RAM, 5 GB HDD and an S3 Trio 3D. I started to play with Quake (I still love it) Quake II, and Unreal Tournament. I remember sitting for at least a month every day in front of UT. Then got into HL:OPFOR, and didn't really care about HL. A year later I got a Riva TNT2 32MB, which allowed me to finally play Quake 3. After like 2 months of playing it, I found out, that there's a level editor for it - Q3Radiant. I started to make maps for Q3, and after a year of mapping, got bored with it. At the end of 2002, I downloaded my first hammer, and began to map first for CS, and later - after discovering it's l33tness - for HL.

Here's the list of my fav games:

Deus Ex
Unreal Tournament
Quake 1,2,3 (4 sux ass)
Doom 3
Battle Arena Toshinden 1
Half-Life 1&2
TMNT IV: TF
Retaliator
F1GP
Air-Sky
Street I, II
Rally Championship 2000
GT Legends
Mafia
Outcast
Duke Nukem 3D
GTA: San Andreas
Max Payne 1&2

Taking religion for fully granted is stupid. So is taking science for fully granted. I believe, that you can't just say "there is no God" nor "he / it is here and guides us all". Thats because, you just don't know. There is still so many things, that we don't know, and many things, that we will never find out, IMO. As said above, believeing if you're sick, or if you have a serious illness, helps you. But what it really is, nobody can tell for sure. But it does work. Even if someone doesn't believe in God, and is a realist: it's science, that tells us, that we are only using a small percent of our actual brain capacity. Who knows what that is? It may be there for some telephatic or self-hypnotising use, what we don't know how to fully use yet (What Jose Silva's Mind Control is all about) or...for contacting God ;)

Sorry for being off-topic, but I think you can't say that only one of these two beliefs is true.

Yeah, I know, that's because I didn't had a stand for the camera, and I had to manually set the three different exposures between shots (100 buck camera, not exactly the best machine, but I don't have money for anything better ATM). So, I couldn't perfectly hold it still, and Photomatrix couldn't align them properly on that image.

Well, tried everything, even running in windowed mode, in 640x480, with everything set to the lowest possible value, and the desktop color depth reduced to 16-bit - where HL2 looks worse, than HL1 - and still the same problem. I think HL2 does something during the save process, that this thing can't handle. When I started the game, the train station was slow as hell, and there was lots of swapping going around everywhere, but it was still running, until I got to an autosave point, or did a quicksave myself. This is just insane...I run games on this thing like Max Payne 2 and Doom 3 - and Doom 3 eats up more of the system resources, than HL2 - but a simple HL2 savegame is lethal. Wtf.

Yeah, sounds like the solution. I have an Intel 950 (I know it's crap), and yes, it shares the system RAM of 512 MB. I've installed the driver for it from the driver CD, which came with the laptop. As I looked around in the properties, it says that the minimum amount of memory it shares is 10 MB, with a maximum of 224 MB, but I didn't find anything about paging...

Ok, I'll try to download new drivers for it, hopefully that's gonna fix it.

EDIT: Found this on Intel's website at the 82945GM Express Chipset Family's game comatibility list:

"Half-Life* 2 game installs successfully, but crashes during game play.

Intel is not aware of a fix or workaround for this issue. Contact the game manufacturer † for further updates, patches or support."

I just installed HL2 on my laptop, it started and ran well (actually not too well, because the laptop is for office use, but ok) until I got to an autosave point. In that moment, when the loading was done, and the game made an autosave, HL2 exited, and dropped me back to the desktop, with no error message. What seems even more strange, is that if I don't move, while the save is being made, just wait and stand still for that few seconds - it doesn't exit. This is just pissing me off, and I never had an error like this on my desktop machine.

So, does anyone know, why this is happening?

Ah...these threads are leading nowhere.

There are only three options to choose from:

1. I don't believe in conspiracy theories at all, so - according to the conspiracy theorists here - I'm a blind slave, and I suck.

2. I only believe in some conspiracy theories - the ones, that I think can be right, and worth thinking about - and deny the others. But it doesn't matter, the reaction is the same: You're fucking blind. Enjoy your slavery.

3. I believe in all theories, no matter what huge load of bullshit they may be - and I'm saved.

Can't you see Jahzel, DocRock, that you're doing the same thing, what you're fighting against? The way I see it, you think that the truth can ONLY come from you. I don't even have a choice, to think about it. What about you're posts about the media contolling us and brainwashing? Isn't this completely the same? Everyone must have the right, to decide, what to believe in.

I agree, that you shouldn't believe everything you see / hear in the media, but you can't expect people to believe everything you say, just because you're on the other side.

Well, I don't know about Oblivion, but I think it can handle HL2 no problem. Yes, the laptop GPUs are slower, than the ones in the desktop machines, but come on, X1600 or GF 7600? I have an old Radeon 9550, and even that old junk can run HL2 on high detail settings and 1024*768 with average 40 FPS. Maybe they'll have some slow-downs in high resolutions, and HDR turned on, but generally it'll run smooth.

srry: Ok, so I fail on the american market, it seems, that I don't really know what specs the american dells have, but in my country, MSI is clearly the better choice. (Maybe Dells are hellotta expensive in Hungary) The models from dell, that I can get my hands on here, mostly have useless Intel Extreme GPUs, the only one - from the 6400 series - that has a Radeon X1400, and has a price of 280000 HUF (so ~1400$) has only 512MB of RAM. There are two MSIs in that class. The first one has 1Gb of RAM, X1600 GPU, and a Turion 64 2.0 Ghz for ~1070$. The second one has 1 Gb of RAM, GeForce 7600 Go GPU and a Turion 64 1.8 for ~1250$. And according to this, a GeForce 7600 Go isn't as crap, as you say it is.

As for the processor: 1.8 Ghz Core 2 Duo or Turion 64 - well, where I live the fastest CPU you can get are Core 2 Duos running at 3.0 Ghz, or Quad Core CPUs running at 2.4 Ghz. Now, we're talking about middle class laptops here, not some gaming beasts. In the middle class, I think a 1.8 Ghz Turion or Core 2 Duo combined with GeForce 7600 Go or Radeon X1600 works just fine.

And once again, sorry for my n00bness on the american market.

I think, that an MSI notebook would be the best choice for you. I don't own a laptop myself, but I'm looking forward to buying one in the next few weeks. I've been looking around, what kind of specs laptops have, and which are reliable, and came to the conclusion, that MSIs have the best price for their performance, and are reliable. They almost always have 1Gb of RAM and have a middle-class (so useable) videocard.

Acers are only good, if you have like 800 bucks for a laptop. The acers, that are more expensive, suck balls compared to the laptops from other manufacturers.

The laptops from Dell, ASUS and Sony are also reliable, but they just cost too much IMO. The new, cheaper Dells have nice Core 2 Duo processors, but a piece of shit graphics chip (Intel Extreme 950) - with that, you can't even run HL with decent FPS rate. For the same price, MSIs have better overall performance - maybe not with ultra leading-edge CPUs, but with 1Gb of RAM and GeForce 7600-Class videocards.

Actually, I've been looking for a model around 200000 HUF (1000 dollars), in that category, my model of choice is: MSI L735X-050HU (AMD Turion 1,6 Ghz, 1Gb RAM, GeForce Go 7600 256 MB, 100Gb HDD). If you have 1500 dollars for it: MSI L745X-075HU. (which HAS Core 2 Duo processor AND a GeForce 7600 Go 256 MB, which you can't say from the Dells in this category.)

Well, usually a samurai at least welcomed the opponent with a bow, a ninja didn't, and could just cut his head down, while bowing. Besides, the way they fought was different. A samurai rather focused on one attack, he's goal was to win / kill with one move. They were trained to do like that. The ninjas goal was to win - no matter how.

in Can't connect to the internets Post #230445
Ok guys, solved it.

The whole story: I had an XP on my hard drive, and after my machine got repaired (the processor died) this one did not want to run anymore. Obviously because of the new motherboard and processor. Thats why I had to reinstall XP, but this was not the same version, which was previously on my comp, the old one was a simple XP Professional, with no SPs, and this - as I mentioned - was with integrated SP2. So, I got another XP CD from my friend (which is hungarian, this was english) and with that, I could repair my previous fucked-up windows. Internets is working perfectly with this repaired one...there was something wrong with that english version, I think.

I've just got my usable (P4-class) computer back after 1 month. I've installed winxp with integrated sp2 on it, and I can't connect to the internets with it (DSL). It always tells me, that the username / password is incorrect. But I'm 100% sure, that they are right, because I used that username and password on my piece of shit P200 MMX (I'm using it right now as a matter of fact) at the time, when I didn't had this comp. Xp recognized the integrated LAN on my my motherboard - it didn't work with that. Then I used the driver on the motherboard CD - didn't work. I also tried it with a PCI-Ethernet Card, and still, the same error. I've tried it with the PPPoE program, what my ISP gave to me, with the same error...

So, I'm pretty fucking sure, that it's some other error, but I don't know what it can be. I fucked around for like 2 hours at the network options, but nothing seems to help.

Does anyone know, what the problem could be? Thanks for your help.
