Unfortunately the larger version of this pic isn't on this computer. Oh well. Basically the most difficult thing was preventing the flash from completely zoning everything out, while still being bright enough for a motionless shot at that range.

buildcubemaps crashes to desktop if you're running HL2 on a lower resolution than 800 x 600, as reflections simply aren't supported that low, i believe.

although why you would run so low, i can't think, so that's probably not the problem.

Why hasn't anyone made the headcrab yet? Or the Lambda?

I've tried a headcrab numerous times. It's VERY difficult to get a good looking one at 15 x 15.

This error rather conveniently tells you which brushes are broken. Go into one of the file menus at the top and find "go to brush number" or similar.
Entity 0, Brushes 0-15 need to be deleted, and remade without any errors. It'll be something simple like you've carved/clipped a brush too small, or a brush has too many intersecting faces.

Stop using the compile tools made for Quake, and start using the tools made for HL.

Dont auto execute.
He doesn't mean you've configured hammer wrong. He means that steam will have fucked up the auto-execute somehow. (they're good at that)

When you hit F9, uncheck the little ticky box that says Start map after compile or something like that, then to play your map, load the game and manually type "map <mapname>" into the console.

Wait, it just occured to me, are you using Zoners HL1 tools for source? 0.o
