One thing I don't get is people who say 'Don't bother with a Quad-Core because most games don't make use of the technology yet.'

How about getting a Quad-Core now rather than waiting for games to become more demanding? Doesn't that make more sense from a financial standpoint?

I'm not big on sounds but as far as I know you need 2 seperate amb_generic entities. One that plays the sound on a loop and another that is intended to fade out (this should be inactive to start with).

Make the trigger deactivate the first amb_generic so that it cuts off and at the same time make it activate the second amb_generic which should have a designated Volume (0 to be silent), Start Volume (which should be the same as the first amb_generics volume, and a Fade Out Time.

Hope that helps. Otherwise I apologize for not having a clue what I'm talking about. :rly:

Bill's voice sounds familiar to me but I can't find a name or anything. As far as I can tell it's the same guy who voiced Father Grigori, The Fisherman from HL2: Lost Coast and the scientists in the Official Released HL1 total-conversion Gunman Chronicles.

Also, I believe Zoey is voiced by the same person who did Cortana in the Halo series.

Anyway, I play as Zoey and my weapon of choice is the hunting rifle. Sure its slow but if you can line it up right you can nail a load of zombies in a row. It also preserves your ammo thanks to its semi-auto fireing.

I'm with Muzz on this one. My PC is a 4 year old, single core system and runs L4D reasonably well in comparison to most of todays titles.

I already pre-ordered so I'm glad I enjoyed the demo today.

would it help if there was a TWHL compo for L4D mapping? and the good maps at the end are all strung together into a campaign or something?
I love that compo idea so much I wanna have sex with it.
Cons would be I never liked the chosing your weapon parts, thought that was kinda stupid, I wish you could have them all at once, but whatever.. the mapping was also very basic, I seen alot of plain cubes, feels a bit rushed.. anywhos I give it a 4/5 Because it is fuckin' awesome!
I like the 3 weapon system. Its more realistic, not carrying around a stockpile makes more sense to me. As for the mapping, it is a well known fact that official maps are always basic. As with L4D you also have to take into account the number of models there are on screen at some points.

Agreed. Most models which use envmaps for reflections need a cubemap to work from otherwise I think they use a sky texture by default.

Works for me. Looks pretty sweet. Its not often that a mod/map involving large scale rooms manages to maintain a reasonable amount of detail. The combat looks reasonably varied too. This could turn out really well.

The demo goes public for free tomorrow. I've had this rant already. :P

Found a great deal on Play.com though. ?22.99 (?10 less than steam) if you pre-order the boxed copy. Of course you have to wait an extra week for the full game...and you need to live in the UK.

As far as I know its down to the env_cubemap thingy being really reflective. (I assume you have built the cubemaps?) I had this issue myself with several custom textures and prop_models in dark areas. Never did find out how to fix it other than alter the materials .vmt file.

One of many reasons I don't get on with Sauce.

I've been going over it in my head each time I get some free time but then FarCry2 came out and well...kept me busy for a few days. Then Fallout 3 came out and that's kept me going for a week so far.

Point being I do want to do this now but there is so much else that I need to do. Plus the Fraps issue is a bit of a pisser.

Just a little update. I really felt up to recording and narrating some footage the other day but my version of fraps has somehow been corrupted. Yay.

Hopefully I'll have it sorted by next week when I'm off work and can get loads of footage. :D

Turns out my PC is schizophrenic. It runs CS:S at 10fps and Far Cry 2 maxed at 15fps. Still, its pretty unplayable that way. Medium settings look pretty good and run perfectly on my PC.

Been playing as much as possible over the past 3 days and well. Its awesome but extremely repetitive. However just when you think it's getting boring the game throws something else your way. The buddy system is cool though. I lost 2 today and now they're gone forever. :( (well, until I start a new game)

R.I.P.

Warren Clyde: Died in my arms after 2 minutes of trying to revive him when an ammo dump exploded in his face.

Quarbani Singh: Covered my back while I searched for an objective item, took a shot to the head before I could get back to him.

Urby must go avenge them now.

I think its a trigger_transition that you need. As far as I remember, it is a brush based entity works alongside the trigger_changelevel. Anything within the area covered by the block is carried over to the next map.

Let me just break this down without saying "they suck."

Midnight Club: I personally have no interest in this series at all but having seen them in action I know I'd much prefer to play Burnout. Thats saying somthing too because Burnout has been another victim of Product Placement Propaganda since Burnout2.

Need For Speed: Product Placement and nothing more. The overuse of brand names means that all of the developers budget has gone on licensing and stuff like that. As a result the gameplay aspect boils down to the same repetitive nonsense.

Mortal Kombat: Like many great retro titles, this should never have gone 3D, thats all I have to say.

Halo 3: Recon: I despise Halo and its sequals and spin-offs and whatever bullshit merchandise they spawn. People need to realise that it's a bad shooter made up of nothing ripped off cliche's from other games. I mean christ, Master Chief himself is a ripoff of the Doom marine.

However, as always, this is down to personal opinion so who the fuck cares right? Play what you like, nobody has the power to tell you not to.
