I don't think you physically encounter them in the game. Could be wrong, but I don't remember seeing them properly. I saw a couple through television monitors and that though (In Red Letter Day, when you're teleported to Breen's office for the second time, he's speaking to a Combine in its true form).

What happens when you load the games?
people like that should only be allowed to play board games, especially the Austrialian ones.Playing board games online causes extremly severe lag. I'm talking about pings of over 2500. I usually have to close all programs that take up bandwidth, including Opera.
Whoops, should've checked first. 
Not sure what versions of the HL FGD you're using there, but you need this FGD for model support. I'm 100% sure that this FGD works.

Good to hear. However, with all these stories I've heard of Oktagone's dodgy business dealings, I'd be damn reluctant to host a site with them.
Yep, HL2 (and/or) online gaming is only achievable through Steam. Hell, before I got it I was reluctant. If you're only gonna map for HL1 and don't want to play online, stick with the latest WON release.

The DS looks good. Could've beefed the graphics up imo, and possible joystick control. The PSP has some damn good competition, considering that the DS has broken console sale records in both Australia and the UK.

A lot of stuff was cut when the source was leaked. From what I've heard, some of the stuff in the "beta" was better than the final product.
Indeed. Level changes are completly fine, so long as they work as specified. If you can't get it to work, make a note in your readme (make sure you have a readme too).
I don't mind massive downloads. However, anything over 50 megs is a bit much.

The former is correct. It doesn't have to be loaded via the custom game menu afaik.

Perhaps I'm a little biased, but my tutorial explains a load of stuff. I think there's some sort of error on your end. The content of the tutorial works perfectly, and can be backed up by other tutorials I used for reference.

I'm really looking forward to the entrants for this compo. I've tried to incorporate a few ideas into one (a while ago, I think it was Vassy that asked for a "Map an Intro" compo. You could do that in this one).

This compo is a little different to those before, as it basically gives you a free choice in what you wish to do. Different people wanted different themes, so I decided on one that could incorporate a host of different ideas.
The basic premise of this compo is that you are to create something unique in the Half-Life engine. This could be anything: From a original intro map, a new or rarely used style of graphics, or a stunning new effect. It could even be an entity setup!
Your creation, however has to be UNIQUE, not something that we've seen countless times before. You will be assessed on the originality of the creation as well as the attention factor: make sure it grabs our attention!
If you have any concerns regarding what you can or cannot map, either email me (ascarcella AT gmail DOT com), talk to me on IRC, or post in this thread.
You have the usual month to come up with the goods. I, and I'm sure the other judge(s) are looking forward to the efforts your produce. Good luck!
